Josh Springer Advances to Regionals.

(3/2/00)

The postseason road for Josh Springer started at Great Valley for sectionals. He won two straight matches to advance to the finals. And despite a very sore neck and a hole that he bit in his lip, he wrestled in the finals. And even though he got pinned by Brad Forbes of Downingtown he advanced to districts. Districts were held at Conestoga the following week. In the first round he pinned Nia Rodriguez, a sectional champ, in the first period. His lost came at the hands of Evan Bell of Penncrest. But he fought back to the concelation finals. He once again beat Nia Rodriguez to advance to regionals. Regionals were held at Norristown. There was definatly great competition at that tournament. Especially at Josh's weight class (119). It included Evan Bell(Penncrest), Brad Forbes(Downingtown), Shane Vocht(Plymoth-Whitemarsh), and Devon Smith(Upper Perkiomen). Although Josh didn't win a match that weekend, he certainly wrestled very well. He competed with the best, and will be respected next year on his trip back there. But hopefully next year there will be a big change. Actually a few changes. And they are that he will be accompanied by a couple of his team mates next year.

Big Dawgs has started!

Meeting tuesdays and thursdays from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the ninth grade center, this program is for those jr. high and high school guys looking for a launch pad into the MAWA and summer tournament season. For info contact us at the email address at the bottom of the page. The above gives you the details of an opportunity. Now I'm going to get on my soapbox and let everyone in on a little secret. Do you desire success in your chosen sport? Do you want to know what it's like to compete at your absolute best? Then now is the time to make it happen. The "off season" is when champions are made. I'm not saying that the work required at this time of the year has to be done with the intesity and urgency of in season training. Quite the contrary. This is the time of year to have fun, to get fat and happy. But nothing will put you ahead of the crowd faster than honing your skills and technique in a no pressure atmosphere. Nothing will take you to the top like a real weight training program. Nothing will teach you the joys of your sport better than competing in off season tournaments where the objective is NOT winning, but developing your craft and getting better. If you're not sure how to make this happen, Big Dawgs is the vehicle for you.

ATTENTION JR. HIGH WRESTLERS

This is especially true if you're an eighth grader planning to make the jump to the High School team next year. Come and learn how to successfully compete on the high school level. This is the summer to make it happen! Who's going to be at Big Dawgs? Who thinks Big Dawgs is the place to launch their training for next year? Try these names out and see if you want to be listed along side of them. Brad Forbes will be there. Jake Rathfon will be there. The Cain boys, Chris and Nate? Yep. they'll be there. Ben Young? It's his second home. Starting to get the picture?

OCTORARA!!!

(10/16/99)

Saturday, October 16th 8 Coatesville wrestlers traveled to Octorara to compete in the High School tournament. 4 wrestlers won matches. They were Rob Miller, Travis Bivona, Chris Walton and Wayne Brown. Rob Miller walked away with the 112 first place medal after wrestling three great matches. Travis Bivona took third, with a great effort in his final match. Chris Walton took 4th, but walked away with two pins on the day. Wayne Brown showed incredible improvement n all of his matches. And taking home two victories. But the definate highlight of the whole tournament was Rob Miller second match. Rob defeated state qualifier Jermaine Jones from Henderson to advance to the finals. But this just shows all the work he put in during the off season. And it shows the heart and determination of the whole team. So based on this tournament it looks as if Coatesville should be a huge contender in not only the Chest-Monts, but in the post season tournaments. So watch out Pennsylvania!! Here comes Coatesville. Its goin down in 99!!

This summer a group of Coatesville wrestlers made a trip to Lock Haven University for a 5-day camp. We wrestled up to 4 meets daily. We also had tecnique sessions in which Lock Haven wrestlers and special guests showed things to improve on situation wrestling. It was a great experience for all of us. We also did very well in our duel meets. Many of us came out with winning records. Winning Outstanding Wrestler awards were Josh Springer(4), Brian Hook(3), Chris Walton(2), and Jamie Gill(1). Josh Springer ended up with the overall Outstanding Wrestler for our team. Wayne Brown also showed definate improvement with his performance in the meets. Also wrestling well was Robbie Miller, John Walton, and Ian Springer.
