With the railway revolution in China, many maintenance trains and equipment can be found all over China. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to photograph many of the workings, but here is some of some workers cars and other odds and sods from around China and a couple of preserved maintenance items from the KCR.
I am not exactly sure what this is, my guess is it s a track inspection vehicle. I photographed it out the window of our train (so not the best quality), somewhere in mid China on the way to Beijing from Hong Kong. 14 January 2000.
This is a workers car, like a bus on rails. It was on the end of a long string of maintenance equipment, somewhere in Southern China on the Shanghai-Ghanzhou mainline, which at the time was in the process of being electrified, note a pantograph lying on the ground.
This is a China Rail workers Jeep at Shanghai station, although it may not be for maintenance, it was coming from a section under the station which was under construction at the time, so what the hell. 25th January 2000.
Here are two items of maintenance interest taken at the Railway museum in Tai Po Market, HKSAR. Both items have been preserved from the original Kowloon-Canton Railway, todays KCRC.
