Chapter 2

"You might've been hurt babe, that ain't no lie...You don't wanna lose it again, but I'm not like them...You've got no choice babe but to move on, you know there ain't no time to waste...Baby when you finally get to love somebody, guess what, it's gonna be me."~*NSYNC, "It's Gonna Be Me"

When Taylor got back inside the house, she went to her room and shut the door. Even alone in her room, she could still hear Kelli talking to the guys outside. She went over to the window and looked at them. The other guys had joined Kelli, Paul, Erik, and Ashley. They appeared to be making plans to go out to a club that night. Taylor knew that ashley wanted her to go, but she had no interest in him, and she didn't want to lead him on.

Taylor didn't realize that she had been staring out the window at the group below until she saw Ashley look up. He saw her face looking out the window and flashed her a smile. "He thinks I'm staring at him," Taylor thought to herself. "Great."

Again not wanting Ashley to get the wrong impression, Taylor closed the window and pulled the blind down. "Wish I could see Ashley's face now," she said to herself with a laugh.

Taylor picked up her journal and resumed her position at the desk that she shared with Kelli. She opened it and started to write again. But it didn't take long for her to be overwhelmed by the heat that now filled her room since the window was closed. She normally would have turned the air conditioning on, but it had broken last week, and the repair man wasn't scheduled to come until tomorrow. She was dying of the heat, but she would never give Ashley the satisfaction of seeing her open the window. She decided to go outside.

Grabbing her journal and the notebook that she kept her pomes and song lyrics in, she walked down the stairs and out the back door, making sure that Ashley or any of the others didn't see her. If she stayed in the back yard, Ashley would be able to see her, so she went into the woods that were behind her house.

This wasn't an uncommon thing for Taylor to do, she did it quite often as a matter of fact. However, most of the time she did it to get privacy from her sister and parents. So today's situation was quite ironical because her parents were out of town, and Taylor could have been running around naked and Kelli wouldn't have paid her any mind because she had seven guys to hang around with.

Once in the woods, Taylor started walking to the spot that she always went to when she wanted to be alone. She had discovered the spot about a year ago. It was a small clearing in the middle of the woods with a fallen tree trunk on one side that was strangely enough quite comfortable to sit on with the was it was shaped. Taylor enjoied sitting on the tree trunk doing her writing. It was quite peaceful because the surrounding plant life was so beautiful, and there was a nearby creek that could be heard flowing.

As Taylor got closer to her spot, heard the sweet melody of guitar chords. "But that's impossible," she told herself. "I must just be hearing things. No one ever comes back here."

So imagine her surprise to see someone sitting on her tree trunk playing the guitar when she got to the clearing. It was a boy a few years older than Taylor. He hadn't seen her yet because he was concentrating on the music, but she could see his features. He had curly brown hair with a few blond highlights and beautiful blue eyes. He was also extremely good looking.

Taylor walked over to the tree trunk and sat down beside him. For the first time he was aware of her presence.

"Hi," she said. "I'm Taylor."

"I'm Jacob," he said softly gazing at her.

"I haven't seen you around here," she said.

"Yeah, I just moved here today," he said.

"Oh, so you're part of that boyband?" Taylor said with a hint of disgust in her voice.

"Yeah, you've met the other guys?"

"A few of them," Taylor said remembering Ashley and shuddering. Jacob must have picked up the distaste in her voice.

"What? Is there a problem?" Jacob asked.

"I dunno," said Taylor. "It's just that I guess I didn't really hit it off with one of them."

"Wanna talk about it?"

"Nah," said Taylor. "You're probably just as bad."

"Don't pass judgment so soon," said Jacob. "Please, give me a chance."

There was something about the way he said that, the tenderness in his voice, that made Taylor trust him whole heartedly.

"You're right," she said. "I'm sorry."

"So are you going to tell me about it?" said Jacob sincerely interested and concerned.

"Okay," said Taylor and told him about Ashley and his unwanted flirtation.

"He really doesn't mean any harm," said Jacob. "He must just really like you."

"Well, I don't like him," said Taylor. "He's not my type anyway. So anyway, what was that you were playing when I came here?"

"Oh, it's just a little song I'm working on," said Jacob a little bit embarrased.

"Could I hear it?"

"It's not really that good yet. I just started it."

"I'd like to hear what you have."

"I dunno..."

"C'mon, I shared with you. Now It's only fair that you share with me," Taylor pleaded.

"Well, okay then," said Jacob. "You have a point." He picked up the guitar and started strumming a few chords.

"Never thought I'd find it, and now I can't deny it. I need you in my life this time," he started to sing. "That's all I have so far," he interrupted himself. "I told you, it's not very good."

"No, it's good," said Taylor. "Like you said, you just started it. Keep working on it, you're really talented."

"Thanks," said Jacob blusing.

Taylor looked at her watch. "It's getting late, I better go. Kelli will wonder where I am," Taylor said.

"Okay, we'll see each other around, right?" Jacob asked.

"Yeah, we are neighbors," Taylor said standing up and grabbing her notebooks from the trunk. "This was nice."

"Yeah. What's in those?" he asked pointing to the notebooks.

"Oh, just my journal and some poems and song lyrics," said Taylor blushing. "Nothing special."

"I'd like to see them some time," said Jacob. "Are you doing anything tonight?"

Taylor thought for a moment. "No. I think Kelli and the guys from your band are going out to a club. Ashley tried to get me to go, but ya know. I didn't wanna lead him on. They're probably going to try to get you to go too."

"Well I won't. After they leave come over to the house," said Jacob. "We can spend some time together, alone."

"Yeah, that sounds nice," said Taylor. "Are you sure you don't wanna go with the guys?"

"I'd rather be with you," Jacob said. "See you later, Tay. Can I call you that?"

Taylor remembered earlier when Ashley had asked a very similar question, and what she had told him. The only people that called her Tay were Kelli, her parents, and a few friends from school. But already in less than an hour Jacob had gained her trust more than most people would ever gain it.

"Yeah, Tay's good," she said. "Bye, Jacob."

"Bye, Tay," she heard him say as she walked away. Taylor walked back through the woods to her house. She had really enjoied spending that time with Jacob, she was glad that they had met. She could tell that they would become great friends. One thing was for sure, she was looking forward to spending time with him in a few hours.
