Molly's 2000 Mr2 Spyder AKA The Go-Kart

Modifications

This is my wife's 2000 Mr2 Spyder, or as I call it "the little go-kart that could." I gave it to her for her Birthday last summer (2005). I tried my best to get her into mustangs but it wasn't to be. She wanted "something small, "cute" and sporty" and those were her exact words. I spent a good amount of time looking at used Z3's, S2000's, miatas, etc and in the end I liked the Mr2 the best with its mid engine layout, rarity, and looks. I will admit this little car is a BLAST to drive. Its not the fastest thing on the road but its quick for what it is. I actually raced it once at the track last summer (my car was broken and I needed to get my racing fix!) and with its little 138hp 4 cyl. engine I managed a 15.7 at 85.3mph which I thought was quite respectable concidering that my mustang ran a 15.2 at 90mph bone stock. With a little more seat time and a lower elevation track I think I could get low 15's at 87-88mph out of it. Sadly, I doubt she'll ever let me race it again.

I purchased the car with the exterior mods already done. The previous owner added the 2003-up model Mr2 headlights with HID, 2003-up tail lights, 2003-up side scoops, and AEM CAI, and the 17" ASA wheels. The wheels are not what I would have chosen for the car but they definitely set it off from the other spyders on the road (although you are unlikely to see many out there). If and when she gets bored with this car I may take it under my wing and make it my next project. This car definitely opened my eyes to "power to weight ratio." The only modification I have planned at this point is to gut the pre-cats as they are notorious for failing and causing engine failures. I'm hoping it will give it a little throatier sound and free up a horsepower or two. :)
