In November 2000, I traveled to Philadelphia with one of my best friends, Heidi. Heidi and I work together and she was making a presentation at a HCFA Medicare Conference, so I tagged along and explored the city while she worked (aahhh, this is the life).

We met at a small cafe for lunch and then we went to see "Singing in the Rain" at the Walnut Street Theater before journeying home. It is always nice to visit Philadelphia.

Here is some of what I saw:

Independence Hall - A Philadelphia Landmark. I took the tour like I always do. It is always interesting to learn (or re-learn) some history.

I first visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1976 with my high school French Club and Ms. McLaughlin. It was a great trip we ate at a wonderful Bistro on South Street. The museum is open on Wednesday evenings. It is well worth the trip to Philadelphia.

When visiting Philadelphia, I usually park the car and walk. I especially enjoy walking the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from the Art Museum to City Hall. This fountain is at the traffic circle midway between the Art Museum and City Hall.

This is a closer picture of the fountain. The Franklin Institute is nearby. It is also worth visiting. It takes a full day to tour and see everything at the Franklin Institute.

The neighborhoods around Independence Hall are always a joy to visit. The Betsy Ross House is just a short walk. Elfred's Alley is also just a short walk from Independence Hall as is the Federal Reserve Bank and the Philadelphia Mint.

On the way home from Center City while driving on the Schuylkill Expressway, the Sculling Houses are a great site to see. Many of the Philadelphia Universities have sculling clubs there. It is beautiful at night.

The Walnut Street Theater is the oldest continuous running theater in the United States. The shows there are first class and a fraction of the price of shows on Broadway.

Washington Square is a block from Independence Hall off Walnut Street. It contains a momument dedicated to President George Washington.

The antiques inside Independence Hall are simply magnificant. I love to attend country auctions and purchase old furniture at bargain prices...then I refinish it. I have several pieces of antique furniture in my home that I have refinished.

This is another room within Independence Hall.

When I left Independence Hall, the sun was beginning to set. The weather was beautiful. We enjoyed "Singing in the Rain" ($9 tickets) but it was nice getting home to bed.

And what is a trip to Philadelphia without seeing the Liberty Bell?
