Glossary of Terms:
S.Q.V. – Supplied Quality Verification, a system
where by television sets are packaged and loaded onto a Tractor Trailer and
shipped a distance of approximately 3000 miles. The sets follow a pre-determined
route selected to simulate various road conditions and changes in climate and
altitude. They are then returned to
the point of departure for evaluation to determine if any damage occurred during
the trip.
Finished Goods Inspection- This inspection is
normally performed by the Quality Control Group. It evolves inspecting newly manufactured T.V.’S for
cosmetic, functional, or sound and picture quality defects.
Pre-Production Confirmation Meeting- First milestone, This
is the meeting to determine if all the materials and documentation necessary to
produce the new model pre-production televisions have been received.
Usually a quantity of 50 sets is manufactured. This is the first key
milestone to determine if the sets are ready to be manufactured for testing. Judgment
by Engineering Group
Pre-Production Build- Second Milestone, The
specified number of pre-production sets are manufactured.
On- Line Conformation Meeting- Third milestone, this meeting is used to determine if mass production sets can
be produced. The data supplied from the testing of Pre-Production sets,
along with the list of defects and countermeasures is used to determine if we
can proceed to mass production. Judgment by Manufacturing Group
Mass Production Begins- Fourth milestone, this
is when large quantities of sets begin to be produced.
Issue Product Release Meeting Memo- Fifth milestone,
used to remind support departments about the up coming product release meeting,
and to prepare their information for the meeting. Issued by Quality Control
Group
Pix & Sound Confirmation Meeting- Sixth milestone, Used
to determine if the picture and sound quality of the Pre-Production sets and the
Mass- Production sets meet the acceptable Sony Quality Standards.
Pre-Product Meeting- Seventh Milestone, used to
discuss problems and countermeasure prior to the final meeting.
This meeting is basically used to ensure we well meet the final product
release date. Judgment by
Quality Assurance
Product Release Meeting- Eight milestone, final
meeting to determine if the product produced can be released to the market.
Judgment by Quality Assurance
Reliability- A series of thermal, shock, and aging tests to determine long-term reliability.
Environmental- A series of test used to simulate
various operating conditions the sets may encounter in different environments
and temperatures.
Transportation- A series of used to verify that sets
can be shipped to the market without damage.
Regulatory- Tests that are designed to meet all the
requirements for state and federal regulatory agencies.
ESD- Electro Static Discharge Testing
On/off Test- Set is on for 2.5 minutes and then
turned off for .5 minutes for four days.
600 hour- All sets are aged for 25 days.
Arcing- Laser arcing of the CRT to produce arcing to
make sure circuitry is not damaged by CRT arcing.
X- Ray- Emissions of X-Rays testing for proper levels, that are not harmful to customers.
