Emily glared sullenly at the mess in the cabin. They were hopefully going home tomorrow, and she loathe having to clean it up. She felt bad about leaving it in that state, but... Well, if Juan felt up to helping her...
The caddy stopped at the cabin, seeing Emily's little black jeep.
''Maybe I should go in first.'' Jason began.
''Oh, no.'' Sonny asserted. ''I don't wanna be havin' to hide a body...''
Jason merely shrugged, and the rest followed him. Annoyed at finding the door locked, he didn't even bother to knock, he just kicked it open, knocking it off it's hinges.
Emily jumped up in shock.
''Oh, um, hia, guys...'' she said hesitantly, looking a the floor and refusing to make eye-contact.
No one moved, it was as if they were all rooted to the spot.
''You okay?'' Jason asked gruffly.
''M'fine.'' she mumbled, finally looking up.
''What happened to your face?!'' Lucky burst out.
''It was an accident...'' she began.
''He hit you?!'' Jason asked, enraged.
Concerned, he went to her, cupping her face to examine the now-yellowing bruise.
''He was having the shakes! It was an accident!'' she blurted out. ''He'd never hurt me on purpose; he was so upset, and he was afraid of really hurting me...'' she insisted.
''The shakes?'' Sonny repeated. ''As in drugs?''
''Yeah.'' she admitted, her voice barely a whisper.
Lucky looked down and noticed little round purple marks on her thighs, clearly visible with the short-shorts she was wearing... Stealing a quick glance at his dad, he saw that he was noticing the same thing...
''Was this an accident, too?'' Jason asked, examining the near handprint, in shades of black and blue on her wrist.
''Yes. He was having a nightmare; I think he's getting better... I've been having to calm him down...''
''You can't make excuses for him! He's abusing you---''
''No, he isn't!'' she exclaimed, frustrated.
Suddenly, the attention was turned off of her as Juan emerged from the shower.
''Emily...'' he called.
He stopped short as he saw the death-glares he was recieving from the five men now in the room. Emily ran in front of him, shielding him instinctively. ''Please, let's just go home?'' she begged.
Wearily, Jason sighed, pulling her to him in a warm embrace. ''Don't scare me like that again, okay?''
She nodded against his chest.
''I'll drive you home; Juan can ride in the caddy with the rest of the guys.''
Juan opened his mouth to protest, but Jason silenced him by holding up a hand.
''Emily and I need to have a talk.'' he said, looking pointedly at his sister, to which she almost winced. ''Let's go, huh?''
Jason started up the Jeep and looked over at Emily, who was huddled into herself, staring out the window. He was just about to explode from not hitting Juan, but... she'd looked so fragile, and... he was begining to wonder if he was missing something... Sighing, he flicked on the radio...
Life can take your dreams
and turn 'em upside-down.
Friends will talk about you
when you're not around.
Reality can really cut you
down to size.
But, don't ever loose
that light in your eyes.
Don't ever loose
that light in your eyes.
''Emily, we need to talk about this.'' he began, semi-calmly.
''So talk.'' she mumbled, still staring out the window.
To her shock, Jason turned the wheel sharply, and pulled off to the side of the road.
''Damnit, I'm not having a one-sided conversation about this!'' he exploded, loosing his patience.
Emily looked at him in shock. Jason rarely yelled, especially at her.
''He's really p*ssed... I musta scared him worse than I thought...'' she realized.
''Oh, Jase... I... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to scare you, or make you so mad...'' she choked, tears now running down her cheeks freely.
People make you promises
they never keep.
Soon you'll know why people say
talk is cheap.
Life resembles on big compromise.
But, don't ever loose
that light in your eyes.
Don't ever loose that light
in your eyes.
Sighing heavily, regretting his earlier action, he just pulled her into his arms, rubbing her back soothingly. ''Shhh. Shhh.'' he comforted. ''I'm sorry... I didn't mean it...''
''N-no; I'm sorry... I shouldn't've... I just wanted to help him... I remember what it was like for me...''
Realization dawned in his eyes.
''Oh... and that's why... Honey, that's no reason to keep excusing him...''
''But, he... He didn't mean it...'' she sobbed into his shoulder.
Keep on shinin',
keep on smilin'.
Don't loose faith,
and don't loose heart.
When you're cryin',
just keep tryin' to remind yourself,
you're a shinin' star.
Yes, you are.
''I don't care if he meant it, nobody hits you!'' he said, cupping her face to make her look at him. ''Okay?''
''Yeah, okay...''
''Look, I won't kill him, which is against my better judgement, but... I am gonna have a little ''discussion'' with him. Understood?''
''But Jas---''
''Understood?''
''Understood.'' she answered reluctantly.
Somewhere down the line,
you'll face the judgement day.
When angels look at you,
what will you say?
They've got a way of knowin'
who qualifies.
Just let 'em see,
that light in your eyes.
Don't ever loose that light in your eyes.
Kissing the top of her head, he released her, and pulled the Jeep back onto the road. Emily was scared for Juan, but, somehow... she was so tired, and so stressed, she just couldn't let herself think of that now. Right now, all she could think of was her nice warm bed, where she would sleep for a week...
Keep on shinin',
keep on smilin'.
Don't loose faith,
and don't loose heart.
When you're cryin',
just keep tryin' to remind yourself,
you're a shinin' star.
Yes, you are.
Jason clutched the wheel tightly as he drove towards home. He may have promised not to kill him, but... he didn't make a promise how close he'd come... And, that was a promise he'd never make again... Accidental his @ss; no one hurt his sister and got away with it...
Don't ever that light in your eyes.
Don't ever loose that light in your eyes.
Don't ever loose...
Lucky slipped into her window around 9:30 AM. She was still asleep, obviously still exausted from her ordeal. He smiled gently as he brushed her bangs back. She looked so angelic when she slept...
''Wake up, Em.'' he instructed, shaking her gently.
''Hmmm?'' she mumbled, rolling over.
''Emily. Wake up!''
Blinking sleepily, she sat up in bed and yawned. ''Mornin'...''
''Yeah, mornin'... Um... Can I talk to you?'' he asked uncomfortably.
''Uh... okay... Lemme go brush, okay?'' she said, scrambling towards the bathroom.
Juan looked at Jason's deadly cold countance and swallowed hard. ''What do you want?''
Still, he said nothing, his face still a stony mask.
''Look, Emily explained to you, right?''
''I warned you.'' he said finally, his eyes like frozen steel.
''Warned me?''
''I told you if you ever hurt my sister we'd have problems...''
Emily flopped back onto the bed next to Lucky, smiling nervously.
Lucky looked at her peasant-style nightshirt with wide-eyes. That off-the-shoulder style was very distracting...
''Uh, Earth to Lucky.'' she grinned.
''Huh?'' he mumbled, shaking the unbidden thoughts out of his head.
''You said you wanted to talk. So talk.'' she prodded, looking at him intently.
''Well, for starters, I'd like to ask you about those...'' he began, his eyes falling to her legs...
Even though he knew he should've been expecting it, and was even braced for it, he was unprepared for the fist that came towards his face, sending him hurtling back several feet, knocking him into the wall... Before he even had a chance to react, another blow came...
''Em, did... did he... hurt you?''
''What?!''
''Well, those bruises... they...''
''Oh...'' she said, her eyes falling to them, too. ''Um, he just got excited... didn't know his own strength... I was willing, okay?''
''Okay, okay... Just checking...''
''You're sweet to look after me like that...'' she smiled, cupping his cheek in her hand.
''You're my best friend, I'll always look after you.'' he said sincerely, taking her hand and placing it between both of his own. ''Say...'' he said suddenly, ''have you decided what you're gonna do now that your out?''
''Um... I dunno...'' she shrugged. ''Why?''
''Well, ya know... I'm thinkin' of openin' a business... Couldn't think of anyone else I'd like to have as a partner...''
''Partner?'' she squeaked, grinning excitedly. ''What kinda business?''
''P.I. agency... We could go take our test and get started right away...''
''Ooooh! Yes, that'd be great!'' she enthused, throwing her arms around his neck...
Juan pulled himself off the floor painfully, favoring his right side. Jason looked at him coldly as he massaged his knuckles. ''Remember...'' he warned, pointing at him as he stalked out...
Emily and Lucky's new agency, ''Spencer/Quartermaine Investigations'', was taking off rapidly. After only 3 days of being open, they had a meeting with their first client. Since they hadn't found office-space yet, Luke had said they could use the club. Emily sat nervously next to Lucky, trying to look professional, as the woman with short dark hair introduced herself.
''I'm Rae Cummings.'' she said, extending her hand.
''Lucky Spencer, and this is my partner, Emily Quartermaine.''
''I realize you're a new agency, but I like to give people a chance.'' she smiled, sitting down.
''Well, what can we do for you, M'am?'' Lucky asked curiously.
''Well, I'm looking for my daughter. I'm hoping you can help...''
''We'll certainly do everything we can, Ms. Cummings.'' Emily said sympathetically.
''Thank you, dear.'' she said, opening her briefcase. ''Here is the important information.'' she said, handing them a thick manilla envelope. ''I made little notes to go with everything to make it easier to understand... Is that all you'll need?''
''For now...'' Lucky said, starting to go over the contents.
''We'll be in touch.'' Emily added.
''Yes. Thank you both.'' she smiled, as she prepared to leave. ''Be sure to keep me well apprised.'' she tossed over her shoulder.
By the time Luke and Roy finnished in the back, Emily and Lucky had the stuff spread all over the table.
''Whoa... must be a pretty big case...'' Luke commented.
''Yup...'' Lucky affirmed. ''This lady says she's lookin' for her daughter... She didn't really say why yet, but... well, I figure she must be real worried about her...''
Luke and Emily exchanged sympathetic glances over Lucky's head, realizing what he was thinking about...
''Well, I gotta get to my other job, but I'm sure you guys'll find 'er...'' Roy said, grabbing his coat.
As the warm spring air hit him, he wondered why he felt this strange forboding, not wanting Lucky and Emily on this case; it was as if someone walked over his grave...
Roy stalked into the FBI office purposefully. Slamming the door behind him, he reached in his pocket and grabbed the pager, throwing it at Larikn.
''I told you never again.'' he spat.
''I have news, DiLucca.'' the superior said.
''Really? You can't honestly think I care...'' he said, bemused.
''Oh, you'll care about this...'' Larkin smirked, throwing the door wide...
''Hi, Daddy...''
''Hannah?'' he choked.
''I'm so sorry; I didn't want to hurt you... They said if I let them fake my death and go into this deep cover we'd be free.''
''Free?'' he repeated blankly.
''Free, Dad... We're out... We don't have to be the FBI puppets anymore...''
''Baby...'' he sighed, pulling her into a tight embrace. ''Can we get that in writing?'' he challenged, looking squarely at the superior over his daughter's head...
''Ya got any idea where you need to start?'' Luke asked.
''Hmmm....'' Lucky muttered scrunching his brow. ''Lobo Candy Co... that's not too far; just the other side of town...''
''What does a candy company have to do with this?'' Emily asked, confused.
''Dunno; she gave us clues without much detail...'' Lucky answered.
''Well, you kids be careful; I heard that's on of Sorel's front companies...'' Luke warned.
Going through the papers of the now-closed candy-factory was proving useless. They had turned up nothing, until...
''What are you doing?''
''We're the inventory consultants Mr. Sorel hired.'' Lucky bluffed.
''Oh, really?'' the man smirked, not convinced. ''Perhaps Mr. Sorel should see the work you're doing...''
Jason sat down at the bar and ordered a beer. Luke popped him open a bottle and slid it towards him.
''Where's Claude? Ya fire him again?''
''Nah; he took the day off... Well, hello, Caroline.'' he smirked as his niece walked into the bar.
''Um-hmm.'' she said, barely acknowledging him. ''Hey, Jase.''
''Hey.'' he nodded. ''Have you heard from Lucky or Em?'' he asked Luke.
''Yeah; they're on their first case right now.''
''Al-already?''
''What kinda case?'' Carly asked curiously.
''They opened a P.I. agency.'' Luke supplied.
Carly looked at them like they were nuts, and started laughing uproriously. She laughed until she had tears streaming down her face, and had to hold her sides...
''Oh...'' she said, composing herself. ''You're joking, right?''
''No.'' Luke said, annoyed. ''What's so funny about Lucky and Emily being partners---''
''Partners?!'' she squeaked. ''What the hell was Lucky thinking?!''
''What's that supposed to mean?'' Jason snapped.
''Oh, come on! Like the princess is gonna wanna break a nail...''
Lucky and Emily ran after the guy in hot pursuit. If he handed over anything to Sorel... Emily somehow got in front, and almost caught him... But, he pushed her, knocking her into an open vat of melted chocolate...
Luke and Jason leveled her with good glares.
''Back off, Carly.'' Jason snapped warningly.
''That little girl can handle herself just fine; as I recall she went to throttle you once, didn't she?'' Luke added, also unamused.
''Fine, fine. But he's gonna get himself into a world of trouble...'' she snapped, flouncing out of the club.
I've been meaning to tell you,
I've got this feelin' that won't subside.
I look at you and I fantasize.
Darlin' tonight.
Now I've got you in my sights
Lucky raced to the vat of chocolate goop, where Emily was frantically paddling around, and removed his shirt. Leaning over, he braced his feet and reached in to grab her.
''Give me your hands.'' he grunted.
Grabbing her by the wrists, he pulled her up, straining against the sludge that sucked at her like quicksand... Finally, she popped up, and they landed down hard, oddly, with him on top, by now both exremely sticky and chocolate-covered...
With these hungry eyes.
One look at you and I can't desguise.
I've got hungry eyes.
I feel the magic between you and I.
Lucky looked at her, covered from head to foot in the stuff, and couldn't help but laugh. Suddenly, an odd notion seized him, and he reached over and licked some off her cheek.
''Hmmm... not bad...'' he commented.
''Lucky, what are you doing?'' she giggled. ''We have to get up...''
Running his fingers through her sticky hair, he grinned wickedly. ''We do?''
Suddenly, her eyes changed, and she leant up to capture his mouth...
I want to hold you so hear me out.
I want to show you what love's all about.
Darlin' tonight.
Now I've got you in my sights
The next thing they knew, they were rolling around on the floor in a gooey, sticky, mess... Desperately they tugged at the constricting garments to get even closer, if that was humanly possible... Emily was no virgin, but... she'd never been kissed like that before... She'd never felt this way before... It was like they were merging into one person, tighter, and tighter, and she never wanted it to stop... The feel of his mouth on hers was like lifeblood... Suddenly, he pulled up, and she wimpered at the loss of contact...
''Let's take this to the showers...'' he panted.
With these hungry eyes.
One look at you and I can't disguise.
I've got hungry eyes.
I feel the magic between you and I.
Lifting her up, she wrapped her legs around his waist, and he carried her to the shower-room, never breaking rythym...
Gently, he sat her down as he grabbed the soap and shampoo, and began massaging the green solution into her silken locks as she started to work on his chest...
Now I've got you in my sights.
With these hungry eyes.
Now did I take you by surprise?
I need you to see,
This love was meant to be...
Emily stomped into the penthouse, muttering under her breath.
''What's wrong?'' Jason asked, eyeing her critically.
''I just caught Juan in bed with three women!'' she hollered. ''Three! A frikin' orgy! And, he even had the drunken gall to ask me to... join him!'' she screeched, appalled and gesturing wildly.
''That little...''
''I oughta...''
''I'll kill him.'' Jason vowed, amist the curses of Luke and Sonny.
''Uh, Em?''
''Yeah, Lucky?''
''Weren't you going over there to tell him about about that we, um, slept together yesterday?'' he reminded her gently.
Jaws dropped in disbelief.
Carly grabbed him and practically dragged him to the door. ''Run.'' she whispered.
Emily stopped them with a dirty look, to which Carly merely shrugged and made a face which seemed to say ''Okay, your funeral.''.
''It's completely different.'' she stated, folding her arms in front of her stubbornly.
''How?'' Lucky asked, confused.
''He was with 3 women, and I only slept with you.'' she explained patiently. ''If it were one woman, no one would have a right to be mad, because it'd cancel each-other out. But, since it was 3, he was more unfaitful to me than I was to him. Ya see?''
Luke couldn't help it, he just had to laugh at her logic. Even Lucky had to pretend a coughing-fit... Jason, though, looked more in shock than Carly'd ever seen him.
''This is dating, not fractions!'' he told her, exasperated.
''Makes sense to me.'' Luke grinned.
''Yeah, it would...'' Jason said, shaking his head.
''You've been hanging around your parents too long...'' Carly said, biting her cheeks to keep from laughing.
Emily tilted her head and gave Carly an unreadable look.
''Oh, well...'' she sighed. ''We gotta get to work, anyways...''
''Yup, let's split.'' Lucky readily agreed, grabbing her hand and practically dragging her out of there, more than glad for the excuse to go...
Lucky tossed restlessly, reliving moments he'd rather forget.
''No... Not again...'' he moaned in his sleep...
''Lucky?''
Emily rose from the queen-sized bed in a corner of the one-roomed apartment she now shared with Lucky and rushed to him in concern. He was sprawled across the couch, files everywhere, tossing and moaning. Shaking him gently, she called to him again.
''Lucky? Lucky, wake up!'' she demanded, concerned.
''Huh? What?'' he yelled sleepily.
''You were dreaming.'' she sighed, relieved.
He stared at her in grave concern, still not fully awake. ''No, no... Dorman's alive... I remember...''
''Remember?'' she echoed, furrowing her brow. ''What are you talking about?'' she demanded.
Lucky looked at her, clad in his emerald-green pajama-top, her hands on her hips, her chesnut-locks wildly dishevelled from sleep...
''I...'' he began, confused.
''You were dreaming.'' she soothed. ''But... why would you dream of Dorman?'' she wondered.
''Em...'' he sighed. ''I... Dorman's alive.'' he admitted. ''I don't know how or where, but he... is... The evidence in our files prove it... it's a Cassadine thing... Um, my dream... I was remembering something from when I was captive. Well, more like reliving it.'' he amended, raking both shaking hands through his sweaty hair. ''It didn't mean anything to me then, but... now... It fits with the evidence... Helena musta faked Dorman's death...''
''No...'' she whispered, backing away from him.
''Em---'' he began, reaching for her.
''No!'' she broke in, her voice stronger, yet with more of a tremor, still backing away. ''He... he can't...'' she insisted, falling to her knees.
''M'sorry, baby...'' he soothed, gathering her into his arms. ''I'm so sorry...''
Breath hitching, she began to hyperventillate.
''Oh... okay, okay, shhhh, shhh... Slow, even breaths now... C'mon... breathe for me, baby...'' he soothed, rocking her back and forth comfortingly & rubbing her back gently.
Finally, he was able to get her calmed down enough that her breathing was nearly back to normal, though he could still feel her heart racing against his chest...
''Oh, God...'' she sighed into his shoulder. ''What am I gonna do?''
''I'll protect you, Emily, always.'' he vowed.
''I know...'' she said. ''but, call Jason, kay?''
''If it'll make ya feel better, I'll call him right now.'' he promised, carrying her to bed...
