Chapter Eight

October 12th
Jensen’s Jewelry

“I really appreciate you coming alone,” Jason told Emily as they stepped into the jewelry store.

“I just hope Carly likes what I help you pick out,” Emily replied.

Since Jason had come home she’d been walking on cloud nine. Emily had spent the past week practically living at Jason and Carly’s place. She and Carly were even getting along!

At first Emily had been hesitant when Carly and Bobbie had asked her to help with the wedding arrangements but she found she enjoyed spending hours with them looking over dresses, flowers and planner books discussing everything from the invitations to the wedding cake. Life seemed to have settled down and finally gotten back on course.

Things were quieter at the mansion. School was going well. She was spending time with her friends and even went on another date with Zander. Emily had found it so sweet when Zander told her that he first accepted the date because he had a little crush on Elizabeth, well she had been mad at that first. But when a guy tells you that you’ve entranced him what can you do but forgive him. The only thing wrong was that his kisses hadn’t set her on fire like Sonny’s did. Emily reprimanded herself for even thinking about it. She and Sonny had decided it was just a kiss. She had to leave it at that. Concentrating on the task at hand Emily pushed her other thoughts away and focus on the rings.

“I think something with color,” Emily suggested.

“Not just diamonds,” Jason asked.

“To plain and Carly is anything but,” Emily remarked.

“Granted she’s colorful,” Jason stated.

“The perfect way to describe her,” Emily agreed. “When was Carly born?”

“October,” Jason answered.

“And Michael was in September,” Emily muttered as she scanned the rows of rings. Emily was buried back deep in the store when she found a stunning ring. The main jewel was a sapphire, Michael’s birthstone. Two small opals, Carly’s birthstone, flanked it. Would Carly like a ring without a diamond, Emily wondered.

“What did you find,” Jason asked as he approached her.

“I kind of like this one,” Emily told her brother pointing out the ring, “but its not really an engagement ring.”

Jason looked down at the ring. True it wasn’t the normal diamond, but Emily was right the ring was special. The sapphire glowed and the opals seemed to almost to protect it. It was so symbolic of Carly and Michael. “It’s perfect,” Jason assured her.

Jason and Carly’s Apartment

“Finally,” Carly said as she opened the door expecting to see movers from Wyndhams.

“I didn’t know you were waiting for me,” Sonny said smoothly.

Carly blushed, “Sorry Sonny I was expecting the movers.”

“Redecorating already,” Sonny asked smiling at her.

“Hannah really did have no taste. It's torture just seeing this stuff,” Carly told him.

“So are you going let me in,” Sonny asked.

“What? Sorry,” Carly and opened the door wide to let him in. “Jason not here,” she told him as they entered the living room.

“Do you mind if I wait it's kind of important,” Sonny told her.

Jason had called the other day and asked him to be his best man. Sonny had told Jason he’d think about it but he all ready knew the answer. He couldn’t stand there and not say anything while Carly married another man. Sonny figured the best way to handle it was to talk to Jason in person.

“Nope, can I get you something to drink,” Carly asked.

“No I’m good,” Sonny told as he sat down.

“Okay,” Carly said sitting down from across him.

There was a tension in the air; it always seemed to be there when she was alone with him. Carly knew she loved Jason that wasn’t the issue but she still felt a pull towards Sonny. It wasn’t sexual or passionate in anyway, she felt a kinship with him. She had carried his child…their child. That had left of bond, a friendship. But Carly knew by some of the looks he sent her that Sonny wanted her in a physical way. Carly knew he would never dream of acting on it again; he was too honorable.

“Where’s Michael,” Sonny asked. God it drove him crazy to be in the same room with her.

“Leticia took him to see Lila,” Carly informed him.

“Well she and Emily are the only good Quartermaine influences,” Sonny said.

“I can’t argue with that,” Carly said. “I’m really glad Michael will be able to get to know Lila, she’s the best woman I’ve ever met.”

“How are the wedding plans going?”

Carly beamed at him. Just the thought of the wedding made her feel happier. “Pretty well. My mom and Emily are such big helps. It’s a lot with the redecorating. Bobbie suggested that when I’m done I take some photos and start a portfolio.”

“Why,” Sonny asked.

“To start my own firm or business or whatever you want to call it,” Carly told him.

“You really are going to spend the rest of your life redecorating,” Sonny said slightly amazed.

“Well at least I’ll be making money instead of always spending it,” Carly commented.

Sonny was about to reply when Jason and Emily entered the apartment. “We’re back,” Emily called out.

“It took you long enough did you two go all the way to China for our food,” Carly asked getting up. She took the bag from Emily and headed to the kitchen. “Sonny is in the living room,” she informed them.

“Emily would you keep him company I have to talk to Carly in private for moment,” Jason asked.

“Sure,” Emily replied with a knowing smiled.

“What’s the matter,” Carly asked as she and Jason entered the kitchen. “Is something wrong?”

“Calm down Carly everything is fine,” Jason promised. Jason could tell by the concerned look on her face that she didn’t believe him.

“Then why did you need to talk to me alone,” Carly asked.

“You’re smiling like the Cheshire cat,” Sonny told Emily.

“What a image,” Emily said playfully.

“So you want to tell me what you’re smiling about,” Sonny asked.

“It’s a surprise for Carly,” Emily replied.

“So is it a surprise for me too,” Sonny asked.

Emily bit her lip. After realizing that Sonny loved Carly she wasn’t sure how to talk about her around him. She was hesitant to mention the wedding plans or even Michael because she didn’t want to hurt him. Better to prepare him she thought.

“Carly,” Jason said softly and got down on one knee. He pulled the small velvet box out of his pocket and clasped it tightly in his hands. “You have given me friendship, love, understanding, excitement, fun, a son, a family and so much more. I love you with everything that I am. Will you marry me,” Jason asked and opened the box.

Tears stung Carly’s eyes as she looked down at the sparkling ring. It wasn’t a cold diamond like AJ had given her. Instead it was a warm, blazing sapphire that shone up at her hugged by two opals. It took her only a moment to realize that the sapphire was Michael’s birthstone and the opal was hers. Knowing the meaning behind the stone choices made the ring ten times more beautiful in Carly’s eyes.

“You don’t hate it do you,” Jason asked after Carly had stared at for almost five minutes without saying a word.

“It’s perfect,” Carly whispered as tears slid down her cheek.

“Not quite,” Jason said. Gently he took the ring out of the box and slipped it on her finger. “Now it is,” he said and kissed her.

"I love you,” Carly said after the kiss ended.

“I love you back. Forever,” Jason promised. Hand in hand the walked into the living room.

The Next Afternoon
Kelly’s Diner

“Okay these are the outlines for three stories,” Emily told Elizabeth. “I did some research and there aren’t any others like them out on the market.”

“Good thinking,” Elizabeth told her.

“Thanks so what do you think,” Emily asked.

Elizabeth looked over the stories. They were all good but the one about aliens in the car had her in giggles. “We have to do this one first,” Elizabeth told Emily referring to the alien story.

“That’s my favorite one. You should have seen Jason’s face when I told Michael the story, it was classic,” Emily informed her friend. “So have you told Lucky about our venture?”

“Kind of. I told him we were working on something together. He’s been trying to weasel it out of me,” Elizabeth said smiling.

“You are so bad,” Emily remarked. And the two fell into a giggle fit.

Sonny stopped and enjoyed the view. A smile spread across his face as he watched Emily with Elizabeth. Seeing the ring yesterday had made the marriage all too real for Sonny. Carly was out of his reach for good. It broke his heart, but at the same time he was happy for her and Jason. He wanted their happiness even if it cost him is own.

“Excuse me,” Zander said and brushed passed Sonny. Sonny’s smile faded when he saw Zander approach Emily from behind and wrap his arms around her. Emily smiled up at him and he gave her a quick hello kiss.

Sonny clamped down on his possessive feelings. He was in love with Carly and there was no reason for him fee possessive of Emily; it didn’t make any sense. Sonny tried to assure himself that he wasn’t jealousy. He was just looking after Emily like a brother would. Of course a brother wouldn’t spend half his waking and sleeping hour thinking about a kiss that shouldn’t have happened. Sonny needed to talk this out with someone. Taking one last glace he walked away from Kelly’s.

St. Vincent’s Church Cemetery
Lily Corinthos’ Grave

“Hi Lily,” Sonny began softly. “I know it’s been awhile since I’ve last been here. I’m sorry about that but things got crazy. Carly has a way of doing that…making everything around her tilt. You know I love her. Not more then you. I still hold you and our child in my heart, like I hold the child I would have had with her in my heart. I want to thank you for looking out for him. Them.”

“I never expected to love Carly. Hell I tried to stop myself from loving her. I mean it was hopeless from the beginning right? She loves Jason and…I don’t know how he could forgive me for what I did. Sleeping with Carly was the worst and best thing that ever happened.”

“I’ve been lucky to have loved and been loved by two the most beautiful—both inside and out, women that God ever put on this earth. You’re my heart and Brenda is my soul. I didn’t think I had anything left to give after I lost you both.”

“Until Carly.”

“She made me feel again and then left me. Now I think I’m losing it. You remember Emily Quartermaine. She still pals around with Lucky Spencer you’re favorite student. She’s just a child…a young adult. There I go again trying to justify it. How can you justify having feeling for a seventeen-year-old girl? She’s Jason’s sister for goodness sake. I should be looking out for her…protecting her. Not kissing her.”

“How is it fair to kiss Emily when I love Carly? I’m twice her age!”

“I don’t know what to do. How do I stand by and let Carly marry someone else? How do I tell Jason no to being his best man? How do I keep my thoughts from Emily’s kiss? From wanting another?”

Silence filled the air around Sonny. He sighed and placed a bundle of roses on her grave. Sonny sat in the cold and silence and felt some peace.

The Next Day
Harbor View Towers

Emily was on a mission that frankly she didn’t want to be on. But a promise was a promise. Stealing herself she stepped off the elevator. “Hi Johnny.”

“Emily,” Johnny said in greeting.

“Is Sonny in?”

“Yeah,” Johnny replied and knocked on the door. “Emily is here,” he told Sonny after he opened the door.

Sonny looked up from his paper work, “Let her in,” he told Johnny. Johnny nodded and let Emily into the penthouse. “Its been awhile since you’ve dropped by,” Sonny commented as Johnny shut the door.

“Its not a bad time,” Emily asked afraid that she disturbed him.

“No! I’ve missed you coming by,” Sonny told her. He could kick himself for that.

“Me too but I’ve been busy,” Emily told him.

“Wedding plans,” Sonny asked put off some by the topic.

“Yep,” Emily told him sensing his discomfort.

“So to what do I owe the honor,” Sonny asked playfully trying to pull himself from his funk.

“Its actually about the wedding,” Emily told him. She watched as the smile fell from his face.

“Oh. What about it,” Sonny asked trying to sound nonchalant.

“Jason is still waiting for answer about being best man,” Emily stated. Sonny exhaled slowly as he looked away from Emily. “I understand that it would be hard…”

“You understand what,” Sonny asked meeting Emily’s gaze.

“I ah…” Emily started smiling weakly at him. “You know what I totally forgot that I was suppose to meet Elizabeth so I have go,” Emily said as she started towards the door.

“Emily,” Sonny called out. Sonny didn’t know how Emily knew his real feelings for Carly but last thing he wanted was for it to get back to her. Sonny didn’t want to feel Carly’s guilt or pity. Emily stopped in her tracks.

“Huh?”

“I would appreciate it if you didn’t tell Carly. I’m sure Jason knows but…”

“I promise,” Emily said interrupting him. “I’ll see you later,” she said as she opened the door.

“Bye.”

On the elevator Emily took a calming breathe, why was it she wondered that her life sometimes felt like a bad soap opera?

Chapter Nine

November 1st
Harbor View Towers, Sonny’s Penthouse

Sonny was leaning back in his leather desk chair. The phone was up to his ear and he ran a hand through his thick, black hair in an aggravated motion. “I’m not sure yet Jason.”

“Sonny I need an answer,” Jason said his voice sounding far away over the phone. “The wedding is on the 29th.”

“Jason,” Sonny sighed. “You’re my best friend and I’m honored, but I can’t,” Sonny finally admitted.

There was a pause while both men suck up the hurt the admission had caused. “Will you come at all,” Jason asked.

“I’m sorry Jason,” Sonny said is voice full of emotion, “I can’t watch her marry someone else.”

“I understand,” Jason, replied his voice strained. “I…I wish things weren’t so hard. I don’t want to hurt you Sonny you’re my best friend, my brother.”

“I feel the same way. I don’t know how you’ve forgiven me for what I did, but I’m grateful. And as much as I want your happiness; to experience it with you, I just can’t watch her marry someone else,” Sonny said with more openness then had allowed in years.

“I’d feel the same way,” Jason confessed. “What should I tell Carly?”

“Tell her I…I’ll go way. Just tell her I can’t be there she’ll assume it's business.”

“I don’t want to lie to her,” Jason stated.

“It’s not a lie. I won’t be in Port Charles,” Sonny said.

“If you’re sure that’s fine with me,” Jason told his partner.

“It's my idea. You’ll be by the warehouse tomorrow,” Sonny asked transitioning from the emotional to business.

“Yeah,” Jason answered.

The Next Afternoon
The Brownstone, Carly & Jason’s Apartment

“Where’s Carly,” Emily asked as she and Jason entered the living room. They sat down on a light blue couch, which complimented the rest of the room.

“She’s out with Bobbie still looking for the perfect dress,” Jason told her.

“How did I get out of going along,” Emily asked.

“I told Carly I need to talk to you,” Jason informed her.

“Is something wrong,” Emily asked with concern filling her soft brown eyes.

Jason smiled at his sister. She was always willing to help him, stand by him; he didn’t know what he do without her. “Nothing is wrong,” he assured her.

“Okay,” Emily said breathing a sighed of relief. After everything that happened he and Carly deserved to be happy. “So what did you need to talk about?”

“I know its not traditional but would you be my best man or should I say person,” Jason asked light-heartily his crystal blue eyes filled with love, happiness and excitement. Jason rarely showed his emotions, but if you knew him well enough you could read his eyes.

“What about Sonny,” Emily asked.

Jason had never lied to his sister he hated to do so now. He had told Carly that Sonny was going to be away. As Sonny predicted Carly had assumed it was business and Jason hadn’t felt the need to tell her otherwise. Sonny had agreed to go away so it wasn’t a lie but Emily unlike Carly, who was to busy planning the wedding, might question his reasons. “He won’t be in town.”

“You’re kidding right? Come on Jas it’s your wedding,” Emily remarked.

“I know but it can’t be avoided,” Jason told her.

"Can’t he postpone it,” Emily asked.

“No,” Jason replied. “So will you?”

“Jason I’d be honored but can’t Sonny postpone his trip?”

“No. So is that a yes,” Jason asked.

“Well of course I’ll stand by you but why can’t Sonny postpone his business,” Emily asked. Jason looked away from her. In that moment Emily knew the reason Sonny wasn’t coming. It wasn’t about business. “He isn’t taking a business trip is he?”

“Em…”

“Don’t lie to me Jason,” Emily cut in. Her eyes held a mixture of tears and anger.

“No,” Jason said softly.

Emily nodded her head while she let her emotions roll over her. “I’ll stand by you on you’re wedding day,” she promised before she got up to leave.

“Emily,” Jason called out. “Leave it alone,” he ordered. Emily made a noncommittal sound and left.

Half an Hour Later
Sonny’s Penthouse

“Emily Quartermaine,” Johnny announced.

Sonny smiled and his dimples appeared when he here her name. “Let her in,” Sonny told Johnny and he pushed himself away from his desk. Emily walked into the penthouse and Sonny could feel the anger radiating off her. “What’s the matter,” Sonny asked as Johnny shut the door.

“What’s the matter,” Emily said back mockingly.

“Okay you’re upset. Tell me what’s wrong,” Sonny said.

Emily shook her head at him. She was so angry at right now. Emily knew Sonny had feeling for Carly but damn it he was Jason’s best friend. Basically Sonny was Jason’s friend, mentor, brother and father rolled into one. Sonny had broken Jason’s heart but Jason had found it within himself to forgive him. Sonny should be grateful. Instead he was throwing Jason’s offer back in his face. And damn it he was hanging on to Carly. He knew it was hopeless but he wasn’t willing to let her go. It angered and confused Emily. She didn’t understand why it hurt. Sonny wasn’t anything to her…okay that was a lie. Sonny was her friend. Sonny was the man she had turned to when Jason was gone. Sonny was the man who had given her the most amazing kiss of her life…stop it Emily she told herself you are with Zander. You like Zander. He’s a great guy. Sonny’s the jerk who’s ruining your brother’s wedding.

Sonny stood a few feet from Emily and just watched her. He could see her thinking. He wasn’t sure about what, but it was astounding to watch how her features changed as she thought. The two stood in uncomfortable silence for five minutes.

“Are you ever going to speak to me,” Sonny asked.

Emily brought her eyes to meet him. “You’re being selfish.”

Sonny was flabbergasted. “Excuse me?”

“Jason asked you to be his best man and you’re being selfish. You’re lying to boot. You’re not going away from business you’re going away so you won’t have to be at the wedding,” Emily said picking up speed with each word as her fury grew.

“This doesn’t concern you,” Sonny said shutting down.

“Don’t,” Emily yelled. “Don’t tell me that my brother doesn’t concern me and don’t shut down. How the hell am I suppose to talk to you if refuse to hear and talk back?”

“Really I thought you were talking at me,” Sonny remarked coldly.

“This is all you’re fault,” Emily stated.

“You’re not laying this all on me,” Sonny yelled. “Jason was the one who refused to admit his feelings for so long,” Sonny said more in control. He hated yelling and he didn’t want to yell at Emily.

“You slept with her. You knew Jason cared about her and you slept with her! You didn’t even like her then,” Emily pointed out.

“Is this what this temper tantrum is about my sleeping with Carly?”

“No,” Emily said taken aback. “It’s about not being there for Jason. He’s you’re best friend. He wants you to stand beside him on the most important day of is life.”

“While he marries the woman I love,” Sonny said bitterly.

Hurt filled Emily’s eyes. “He chose you Sonny. When AJ, Ned, Grandfather and our Dad was trying to reach him they couldn’t. But you did, because he chose you. You became his friend, mentor, father and brother. You’re his family.”

“Maybe I’m part of it but he has you. He has Carly and Michael,” Sonny said sadly. At one time Carly and Michael were his family.

Emily sighed. “Sonny please put aside you’re feelings for once and come to the wedding. You don’t have to be best man just come,” Emily pleaded.

“Put aside my feelings,” Sonny asked resentfully. “I walked away from Brenda to save her life. I put aside how much I loved her and wanted to be with her so she could live. Isn’t enough that I stepped aside…that I’m not fighting for her?”

“You wouldn’t win and you know that,” Emily stated. “That’s why you’re not fighting.”

Sonny’s eyes darken. “You’re wrong about that.”

“Please Sonny you’re not the earth and moon. The world doesn’t revolve around you. There are other guys out there and Jason happens to be one of the best,” Emily remarked.

“And I’m one of the worst,” Sonny asked.

“I didn’t say that,” Emily said losing some of her anger at his hurt expression.

“It was implied,” Sonny stated.

Since the beginning of the fight neither of them had moved. Emily stepped forward. “You are a good man Sonny.”

Sonny laughed, “A good man. I married Lily to stay out of jail. I would have left Lily for Brenda if she weren’t pregnant. I didn’t love her till it was too late. Brenda was happy with Jax but I couldn’t let her go. I fought for her and won her back only to leave her again. Hannah might have been a FED but I dropped her as cruelly as possible. I slept with my best friend’s woman. I knew but in one moment of not caring I ruined everything. And now I'm having inappropriate thoughts about you…”

“What,” Emily asked as she stopped in her tracks at Sonny’s admission.

“Nothing,” Sonny said shaking his hand and stepping away from her. He hadn’t realized how close she had gotten.

“Sonny I ah…” Emily started tears filling her eyes.

Sonny turned and looked at her. She was so beautiful but she was also young and vulnerable. But in this moment he didn’t care. He was a bad person after all. Hell he had just listed only what Emily was aware of. She didn’t know that he wasn’t able to protect his mother or about Karen or some of the other women in his life. At this moment all he want was to kiss her…to make everything else fall away and lose himself in her. Without giving it a second thought Sonny moved closer to Emily. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.

“Sonny…” Emily started to say but he cut her off as he brought his lips down upon her.

It wasn’t the soft kiss she had experienced with him before. This kiss was harder, more demanding. For a moment Emily contemplated pulling away from him but felt herself drawn into the kiss. The world around her faded. All she knew was Sonny was kissing her. All she felt was his lips on her. Her hair being clenched. Emily felt Sonny’s other hand on her breast and moaned.

This time Emily’s moan didn’t bring Sonny back to reality it only fuel his hunger for her. Sonny slid his lips from her lips and began to work his way down her throat. He was about to claim one of her breast through her shirt when there was a knock on the door. Sonny was able to pull away from Emily by the time Johnny opened the door.

“Carly and Michael are here,” Johnny said. He was smart enough to catch the tension in the air and not say anything about it.

“We thought we stop by for a visit,” Carly said as she entered the penthouse before Johnny’s okay. Carly also felt the tension in the room and noticed Emily’s messed up hair. What the hell had she walked in on, Carly wondered.

“I have to go,” Emily said rushing out of the penthouse before anyone could say anything.

“Johnny,” Sonny said dismissing his guard.

“Will you take him for a minute,” Carly said and handed Michael to him before he could answer.

Knowing that something was up Johnny took Michael without saying a word and shut the door.

“What the hell were you doing,” Carly asked.>

“It's none of your business,” Sonny told her.

“That’s where you are wrong. Emily is Jason sister and my future sister-in-law and I happen to like her,” Carly stated. “So tell me what was going on,” she demanded.

“I already did. It's none of your business,” Sonny said again.

“I know that look and that attitude. I experienced it myself,” Carly said feeling disgusted. “Just tell me I got here before you slept with her.”

“Where do you get off,” Sonny yelled. “I would never hurt or use Emily.”

“Well I was sure you wouldn’t hurt Jason until you slept with me,” Carly shot back.

Sonny eyed her dangerously. “Stay out of it.”

“No you stay away from Emily,” Carly ordered.

“I’m a grown man Carly you can’t order me around,” Sonny told her.

“Stay away from Emily or I’ll tell Jason,” Carly threaten.

Sonny took a step towards Carly but stopped himself. “Leave Jason out of this.”

“Then leave Emily alone,” Carly said.

“Jealous,” Sonny asked feeling perverse.

Carly shook her head sadly. “I care about you Sonny. So does that little girl, please just stay away from her,” Carly pleaded.

“She’s my friend that’s all,” Sonny replied.

“Make sure it stays that way,” Carly told him.

Chapter Ten

November 6th
Kelly’s Diner

Emily sat tapping her fingers against the table as she watched Elizabeth work and waited for Zander. For the last few days she had been hiding out from pretty much everyone sure that they would be able to tell just by looking at her what had transpired with Sonny. It wasn’t that she was ashamed by it; Emily just felt guilty. She was with a great guy and she kissed someone else, had dreamed and thought endlessly about that someone else. Emily knew a relationship with Sonny was impossible. First there was their age difference, the fact that her family would flip – Emily knew even Jason would disapprove and to top it off, the thing that hurt most – Sonny loved Carly. Emily didn’t want to be in a relationship where her partner was in love with another person. Which of course made her a hypocrite. It wasn’t that she loved Sonny, but she was interested in him and cared about him, which wasn’t fair to Zander. She really liked Zander; he was smart, funny, charming and good-looking. She always enjoyed the time they spent together, but Emily knew she was holding apart of herself back because of an insane hope that she and Sonny could work something out…have a relationship. Emily knew she was the queen of impossible relationships; her family would never get along, she had been head over heels in love with Nikolas, had harbored a secret crush on Lucky and then there was Juan. Emily had begun to wonder if she and romance didn’t mix.

“Emily,” Carly said bring her back to reality. Emily stiffened and looked up at Carly. Carly smiled at her and sat down.

“Hi Carly,” Emily said weakly.

“It’s been a few days,” Carly pointed out.

“Yeah I know,” Emily mumbled in reply.

“So are you trying to avoid me,” Carly asked.

“No,” Emily answered quickly.

“Somehow I don’t believe that,” Carly stated. “Can I get some service,” she called out.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes and stepped over to the table. “What can I get you,” she asked trying to stay pleasant.

“Coffee,” Carly said in a superior tone.

Elizabeth grimaced some, “Coming right up.”

“Do you have be mean to her,” Emily asked.

“Do you have to kiss a man twice your age,” Carly asked.

Emily took a moment to calm herself. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. When she opened them again Carly was taking a sip of her coffee. “Okay I’ve been avoiding you,” Emily admitted.

“Progress,” Carly remarked as she set her cup down. “So you want to explain what the other night was about?”

“It was nothing,” Emily stated.

“I don’t think a rumbled shirt, messy hair and well kissed lips are nothing,” Carly stated.

“It wasn’t like that Carly,” Emily began.

“Hello I have eyes,” Carly replied and leaned into the table. “I want the truth now or I go to Jason.”

Emily sighed, the last things she wanted was for Jason to know. “I went over there looking for a fight. Jason had just told me that Sonny was going to be out of town and wouldn’t be able to be best man.”

“Emily I’m sure Sonny tried his best to reschedule his business…”

“Sonny’s not going away on business. He’s going so he won’t have to watch you marry Jason,” Emily stated.

“That’s ridiculous. Jas wouldn’t lie to me,” Carly said.

“He didn’t. He told you Sonny would be away you assumed it was business and didn’t ask,” Emily pointed out.

“This doesn’t make sense why wouldn’t Sonny want to be there,” Carly asked.

“Hello,” Emily frustrated. “He’s in love with you Carly.”

“What,” Carly exclaimed. “No…he couldn’t…he barely likes me.”

“Like he would tell you that he loves you when you’re in love with Jason. When Jason loves you back,” Emily replied.

Carly shook her head, “This still doesn’t explain the kiss.”

“We started arguing. I told him to put aside his feelings for once and then he started talking about Brenda and how he did that once. And how he wasn’t fighting for you and how that should be enough. I kinda…” Emily started; she broke off her eye contact with Carly. She felt extremely guilty for what she said to Sonny.

“You kinda of what,” Carly asked.

Emily brought her expressive eyes back to meet Carly’s, “I think I told him that he wasn’t the earth and moon. That the world didn’t revolve around him. That there were other guys out there and that Jason was one of the best. Sonny took to mean that I thought he was one of the worst. I tried to tell him otherwise. But he started listing some of the reason why he was; it was like he was trying to convince himself or me that was a bad person. He wanted to prove it…I think that’s why he kissed me,” Emily finished softly.

Carly’s eyes like Emily’s had shimmers of tears sparkling in them. “I have to talk to him.”

“You can’t,” Emily exclaimed. “Sonny doesn’t want you to know.”

“Why,” Carly asked.

“Because he doesn’t want your pity or guilt,” Emily stated.

Carly laughed and wiped away some of the tears that had escaped around her eyes. “I don’t have a reason to feel guilty. I’m glad I was able to open him up. I would never pity him.”

“Carly what happened the other night…nothing like that has happened before,” Emily assured her. “I think things just got to intense and maybe Sonny snapped some.”

“Maybe,” Carly agreed. “But that doesn’t explain why you kissed him back.”

Emily stared at Carly. How was she suppose to respond to that?

“Hey Em,” Zander said as he enter Kelly’s.

“Hi,” Emily greeted smiling weakly up at him. Zander leaned down and gave her a quick kiss.

“Is everything all right,” Zander asked.

“Just talking wedding stuff,” Carly replied. “We’re done,” she said getting up. “Stop being a stranger Em,” Carly as she put on her coat.

“I’ll be by tomorrow after school,” Emily promised.

“Good. I think we’ll just leave things as they are, all right for you,” Carly asked. Carly knew by the look Emily had given her that she had no way of explaining why she kissed Sonny back. Besides with Zander around Carly was sure it wasn’t an issue. Emily had a boyfriend and was probably feeling guilty enough without over analyzing anything.

“Yes,” Emily sighed relieved.

Carly nodded. “Have fun,” she told them before she

Lucky heard a knock at his door. He knew it wasn’t Elizabeth because she always used her key. Who could be coming by at this time of night, he wondered as he padded barefoot to the door.

“Em,” Lucky said surprised to see his oldest and best friend standing outside his door in her pajamas and winter coat.

“It’s not to late,” Emily asked as he opened the door wider.

“Never for you,” Lucky assured her and Emily stepped inside the room. “So what brings you by?”

“I needed my best friend,” Emily replied as she slid her coat off. “Can I get a hug,” she asked looking and feeling pathetic.

“Whatever it is it will be all right,” Lucky told her as he hugged her close.

“Well it certainly doesn’t feel like that,” Emily said as she as moved out of the embrace.

Lucky smiled at her, “Sit,” he ordered. Emily complied and sat on the edge of his bed. “First thing is first,” he commented and went over to his desk. “Chocolate or pixie sticks?”

“You still have my stash,” Emily asked with laughter in her voice.

“But of course,” Lucky replied.

“Chocolate, definitely chocolate,” Emily requested.

“That bad,” Lucky asked as he walked over to the bed.

“Excuse me,” Emily asked sending him a confused look.

“Come on Quartermaine you’re so obvious,” Lucky told her as he hoped onto the bed. “Pixie sticks are for when you’re just goofing and want to talk. Chocolate now that’s heavy duty and something is really wrong.”

“It’s frightening how well you know me,” Emily remarked as she grabbed the chocolate bar from him.

“That’s what a best friend is for,” Lucky said and threw a companioning arm around her. “So spill.”

Emily sighed and unwrapped some of the bar. “Talk then eat,” Lucky said, as Emily got ready to take a bite.

“Fine,” Emily muttered. “You like Zander right?”

“Yes…did he do something,” Lucky asked his protective side kicking in.

“Besides being great no,” Emily answered.

“Oh…good. So what’s the problem,” Lucky asked.

“I kinda of…well you see Lucky…”

“No you have ta tell me,” Lucky responded.

“Right! I kissed anyone guy,” Emily said quickly and took a bite of the chocolate bar.

“Oh okay,” Lucky said for lack of anything else.

“It's not okay,” Emily cried. “I really do like Zander it's just that…that…”

“You like this other guy as well,” Lucky finished for her.

“Exactly,” Emily exclaimed. “Sometime I wish we were a couple it would be so much easier.”

Lucky chuckled, “Except Elizabeth would be upset and you’d be going around my back kissing other guys,” he joked.

“Ugh,” Emily responded and elbowed Lucky playfully. “That’s not true. We’d be so in love that the other sex would barely register.”

“Well I’ll make you a deal if our relationships don’t work out will marry each other,” Lucky proposed.

“Like you and Elizabeth would ever not work out,” Emily grumbled.

“It could happen,” Lucky stated.

“And my family could be sane and pigs can fly,” Emily remarked. “Try selling that to someone who doesn’t know you two so well.”

The Next Day

Carly had wanted to go see Sonny the minute she stepped out of Kelly’s but Emily’s words had played in her head. “He’s in love with Carly. Because he doesn’t want your pity or guilt.” Carly was still having trouble believing that Sonny was in love with her. It didn’t make sense he had let her just walk away. The last thing had asked her was if she could leave her mother, brother and the rest of her family behind. Never once had he mentioned himself, or the fact that he wanted her. To stay, to love him, to be his family…damn it all she felt guilty. Looking back at it know Carly could she the hurt in his eyes, the love and the want. Why hadn’t she seen it then, Carly asked herself.

Had she’d been so blinded by her love for Jason, the happiness of finally being with him and having her family that she wasn’t able to see Sonny’s pain? They had been through so much together – joy and pain. Sonny was her friend and she did care deeply for him, but her heart had always belonged to Jason and always would.

Carly knew Sonny was flirting close to the edge and playing with fire. Carly knew that for Sonny to kiss Emily had to want to. She believed that he snapped, but the desire had to be there first for him to act on it. She had experienced that first hand the night they had slept together. It was dangerous. The Quartermaines would have him in jail, Jason would be furious and Emily hurt. She had to think of something.

“I know that look,” Jason said as he stepped out of the bathroom.

“Huh,” Carly asked as she looked up at him from the bed.

“That look I know it,” Jason repeated.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Carly replied.

“You’re planning something,” Jason responded.

“I am…too,” Carly replied sheepishly.

Jason leaned down and kissed her. “Can’t it wait until after the wedding?”

“This won’t blow up in my face Jas,” Carly assured him as she pulled him down on top of her.

“You always think that,” Jason reminded her running a hand through her hair.

“Well I’m always right,” Carly shot back.

“You always think that too,” Jason said. Carly’s eye’s narrowed and she smacked Jason playfully with a pillow.

Chapter Eleven

November 10th
Brownstone, Jason and Carly’s Apartment

“Jas just do this for me,” Carly pleaded with him as they cleaned up Michael’s room.

“I’m not setting Sonny up on a blind date without his permission,” Jason told her again.

“Jason this is important,” Carly stressed.

“This has to do with your plan doesn’t it,” Jason asked picking up a toy airplane.

“What plan,” Carly asked innocently and threw a stuffed dog in the pile of stuffed animals in the corner of the bright room.

“Carly,” Jason said grabbing his fiancé around the waist and pulling her close.

Carly’s blue eyes blazed back at him. “Fine! I’m happy. I want the people I care about to be just as ecstatic as I am so sue me.”

“He’ll be leaving in a two weeks,” Jason reminded her.

“So he’ll be back,” Carly stated wrapping her arms around him.

”No."

“Please. I know the perfect person for him,” Carly said and gave him a quick kiss.

“No.”

“I’ll keep bringing it up until you agree or,” Carly said raising her eyebrow.

“Or,” Jason asked seeing a plan in her eyes.

“Or you’ll just have to wait until the honeymoon to enjoy our bed again,” Carly told him.

Jason smile at her, “If you want to play that way you’re on,” he said and gave her a chaste kiss on the forehead and let her go.

“I don’t think so,” Carly said pulling him back for a passionate kiss.

“This is really important to you,” Jason stated more then asked after the kiss had ended.

“Very important,” Carly said.

Jason sighed, “If Sonny agrees to a blind date that’s fine with me.”

“Jas…”

“I love you Carly but I won’t pull a fast one on my best friend,” Jason said and reached for another toy.

“Fine,” Carly pouted. I’ll just fool him myself, she thought.

Kelly’s Diner

“You needed to see me Carly,” Sonny asked as he approached her. She looked beautiful Sonny thought; her golden hair glistened in the sun, her eyes sparkled but they didn’t pull at him like a certain pair of expressive brown one.

“Sit. Do you want some coffee,” Carly asked.

“That'd be fine,” Sonny answered removing his jacket before he sat down.

“Elizabeth,” Carly called “another coffee over here.” Elizabeth rolled her eyes and Sonny sent her an apologetic smile.

“Here you go Sonny,” Elizabeth said smiling at him. “Can I get you something else Carly,” she asked acidly.

“No just scurry away,” Carly instructed.

“Do you have to behave like that to her,” Sonny asked after he took a sip of his coffee.

“Does everyone have to take her side,” Carly asked.

"Well you make it easy to,” Sonny pointed out.

“Fine little Lizzy Webber can do no wrong,” Carly said in disgust.

“What did you need Carly,” Sonny asked.

“I know you won’t be able to make it to the wedding. So I want to make sure that you come to the rehearsal dinner,” Carly said.

“I thought you and Jason decided there wasn’t enough time for one,” Sonny said.

“Sonny this is going to be my last wedding. I want all the trimmings,” besides Carly, thought silently it’s the perfect way to set you up with someone.

“I have a lot to do before I go away,” Sonny started.

“I know,” Carly cut in, “that’s why I wanted to see you. We’ll work it around you’re schedule.”

Sonny sighed, he was trapped; he couldn’t think of a way to get out of it. “Is the fifteenth good for you?”

“Perfect,” Carly said smiling at him.

Later that Evening
Kelly’s Diner

“I still can’t believe that you two ran away together,” Zander told Emily as he helped with the clean up. They had decided to do another group dinner at Kelly’s and Zander had to admit he enjoyed being a part of it.

“It was one of the best times in my life,” Emily told him. “Being on the road with your best friend. Sleeping in five star hotels and camping grounds.”

“Out smarting my parents,” Lucky added.

“Lucky you we’re the only one who got a kick out of that,” Emily reminded him.

“Come on Em not even a little thrill,” Gia asked.

“Like she'd admit it,” Lucky grumbled.

“You’re just upset because we haven’t told you what we’re up to,” Elizabeth stated and handed him the brownies.

“A girl shouldn’t keep secrets from her boyfriend,” Lucky stated. Emily winced some at the comment. “Sorry,” Lucky whispered to her.

“It’s okay,” Emily replied.

“Now who’s keeping secrets,” Nikolas asked interrupting them.

“Just trying to weasel it out of her,” Lucky remarked.

“Beside I told you we were working on a project. So I’m not lying,” Elizabeth reminded him as they all sat down at the table.

“I’m just curious,” Lucky stated.

“Remember curiosity killed the cat,” Zander told him.

“Well it’s a good thing you’re not a cat,” Gia told Lucky.

“I don’t know,” Emily replied. “I think he’s used up at least five lives.”

“How so,” Lucky asked.

“Let’s see you were shot, hit by a pile of rocks, the go-cart, the night at Tom’s studio and then…”

“Okay I concede,” Lucky called out.

“Well you only have four lives left so you better be careful,” Elizabeth told him.

“Don’t worry I’m never going to leave you again,” Lucky promised her before kissing her.

“Again with the mushy stuff,” Gia commented.

“You’re only complaining because we’re not the one’s being mushy,” Nikolas told Gia. He took her hand gently in his and brought it up to his lips. “Am I right,” he asked staring deeply into her eyes.

“Maybe,” Gia said breathlessly her dark eyes shining. Nikolas beamed back and kissed her hand.

“Is he out showing me,” Lucky asked Elizabeth.

“Never,” Elizabeth assured him.

“This is so sickening,” Emily replied cutting into the brownies.

“Really,” Zander asked cupping her face and turning her towards him.

“Zander,” Emily said a blush rising on her cheeks.

“I’d be careful man she’s go a knife,” Lucky cracked.

“I’ll take my chances,” Zander replied before kissing Emily.

It was tender and sweet, Emily thought allowing herself to sink into the kiss, but it wasn’t passionate like Sonny’s.

Chapter Twelve

November 12th
PC Hotel

“Carly I’m not sure about this,” V said as she stepped into the sitting room area of her suite. Her once short red golden kissed hair was now shoulder length. Gracefully she walked over to the cream colored couch and sat down next to Carly.

V had never pictured knowing Carly let alone liking her. But it was Carly and Jason who saved her from Simon. Who for the short time they were on the island together took her in. Surprisingly she and Carly got on well. If someone would have told her when she left with Simon that he would turn into a jerk and she end up friends with Carly Benson and Jason Morgan she would have laughed in their face. And while V missed the man Simon had been and the fun they had, her friendship with Carly was unexpected and wonderful.

“Come on V it will be fun,” Carly urged her. Okay while there were some fundamentals that V and Sonny would have trouble with Carly was sure that they be perfect together. V was so much fun. So caring and kind, the perfect friend. And man was she funny! Smart, beautiful and unexpected. Sonny needed someone who would keep him on his toes and V fit the bill.

“You’re asking me to go out on a date with Sonny Corinthos,” V stressed her blue eyes imploring Carly to see reason.

“Is this about Jax,” Carly asked.

“What,” V exclaimed. “This has nothing to do with Jax.”

“Please,” Carly said rolling her eyes.

“This isn’t about Jax,” V stated again trough gritted teeth. The only bad thing about Carly was once she latched onto something she wouldn’t let it go.

“Listen V sweetie, it’s a dream. Jax is blind. And a complete idiot to let you slip through his fingers,” Carly remarked.

“Carly,” V said agitated. “Jax is my best friend nothing more.”

“Did you tell him you were coming to Port Charles?”

“Well…no,” V admitted.

“Hmm. And have you called your so called best buddy yet?”

“I’ve only been here a few hours,” V pointed out.

“But strangely I’m here,” Carly replied.

“You’re my best friend…”

“Funny I thought Jax was,” Carly cut in.

“Fine,” V yelled. “You’ve got me. I’m still soft on Jax.”

Carly smiled in triumph. “I know that Jax probably gave you an earful about Sonny but he’s a nice guy. Dark, mysterious, sexy – the complete opposite of Jax. He’s exactly what you need.”

“Jax is sexy,” V remarked.

“In that Ken doll way,” Carly cracked. V’s laughter filled the room. “So will you,” Carly asked.

“I give up! You win Carly. I’ll go out on one supervised date,” V told her.

“Yes,” Carly said smiling. “Jason, Me, You and Sonny on the town, what fun! Now we need to go shopping for the perfect dresses.”

“I’ve created a monster,” V teased.

PC High

“Hey Jas,” Emily called as she walked down the front steps of school. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Its not a bad time is it,” Jason asked giving her a quick hug.

“Never for you,” Emily said smiling up at her brother.

“Can I give you a lift home,” Jason asked.

“Sure that be great,” Emily replied. Jason opened the door and Emily climbed in.

“Quartermaines,” Rick asked.

“Yes,” Jason told him and got into the car.

“So what’s up Jason,” Emily asked after they were settled and moving.

“Carly’s setting Sonny up on a blind date,” Jason said.

“What,” Emily asked shocked. “With who?”

“I don’t know yet, but she told Sonny that it was a rehearsal dinner.”

“And you know about this how,” Emily asked.

“Sonny called to find out where the dinner would be. Carly was talking about setting him up. I know Carly,” Jason told her. “She’s set Sonny up for a blind date on her own even when I said she shouldn’t.”

“Well that sounds like Carly, but why tell me,” Emily asked.

“I’m going to give her a rehearsal dinner,” Jason stated. “Bobbie and Roy will be there and I also wanted you and Zander to come.”

“Oh,” Emily said hating the idea of watching Sonny out on a date with another woman. “When?”

“Saturday,” Jason replied.

“That’s kind of short notice Jas…”

“Please Em,” Jason asked.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Emily promised.

Later that Night
Kelly’s Diner

“Lucky,” Emily said coming up behind her friend.

“Dang it Em you startled me,” Lucky said turning around.

“Sorry,” Emily replied smiling sheepishly at him.

“Its all right. What’s the matter,” Lucky ask his blue eyes filling with concern.

“That obvious,” Emily asked sighing and sitting down.

“To me,” Lucky said. “So what’s wrong?”

“Well it turns out Jason and Carly are having a rehearsal dinner,” Emily told him.

“That should be a good thing Em,” Lucky stated.

“He wants me to bring Zander…kind of a couples thing,” Emily filled him in.

“Oh. I take it things aren’t going well with Zander,” Lucky asked.

“Its not that! Zander’s great but…”

“But,” Lucky said. “You know Em if you not ready to introduce him to family like that and make it all officially serious you could take you’re best friend.”

Emily smiled gratefully at Lucky. “That'd be wonderful but I’m sure you and Elizabeth already have plans for this Saturday.”

“As much as I would love that she’ll be shut in her studio finishing up on your secret project. So I’d be honored to go with you,” Lucky told her.

“That soon,” Emily said excited by the prospect. “You know Spencer you should be more careful with offers like that your girlfriend could get jealous,” she joked.

“She’s very understanding,” Lucky assured her. “Besides she knows I’m head over heels and has nothing to worry about.”

Chapter Thirteen

November 15th
PC Hotel, V’s Suite

“Wow,” Carly exclaimed as V walked out of the bedroom in a full-length spaghetti strapped lavender dress that faded into a darker shade of purple down the length of the dress. It fitted her perfectly. Her hair was swept up with ringlets hanging down almost dusting her shoulders.

“Really,” V asked feeling insecure.

“You look fabulous darlin! You’d be in trouble if I was a guy,” Carly joked.

“Please,” V chastised her friend. “Besides next to you what guy would notice me?”

Carly checked herself in the mirror. Her long blonde hair was down. The sapphires Jason bought her to compliment her ring sparkled on her ears and neck. She was wearing a carbon copy of V’s dress expect her's was blue. “I do look good.”

“No need to be shy Carly tell me what you really think,” V teased.

“Cute Venus,” Carly shot back knowing V’s hatred of her name.

V’s eyes crossed in anger but then she reminded herself this wasn’t the way to start the evening. “So where are Jason and Sonny?”

“We’re meeting them at the No Name,” Carly informed her.

No Name

“Have I told you that you look stunning in pink,” Roy asked as he wrapped his arm around Bobbie.

“Not lately,” Bobbie replied before kissing him.

“Hi,” Roy said after the kiss ended.

“Hello yourself,” Bobbie greeted.

“Are we going to have to watch this mushy stuff all night,” Lucky asked loud enough for Bobbie and Roy to hear as he and Emily approached the table.

“It’s good to see you too Lucky,” Bobbie replied giving her nephew a quick hug. Bobbie glanced over at Emily she was wearing a black dress with silver threaded Chinese symbols on it. “You look lovely Emily.”

“Thanks Bobbie so do you,” Emily said. “Hi Roy.”

“Emily,” Roy greeted.

“So what am I chopped liver,” Lucky asked.

“You are Luke’s son,” Roy joked before he shook Lucky’s hand.

“So where is Elizabeth,” Bobbie asked.

“Em and I decided we needed a break from our significant others,” Lucky informed her.

“You’re lucky to have such an understanding girlfriend,” Sonny said from behind.

“Please Elizabeth banished him so she could get some work done,” Emily tattled the truth.

“Well if you’d just tell me what you two were up to,” Lucky started.

“Been there done that and the answer is still no Spencer,” Emily told. “Hi Sonny,” she said feeling slightly awkward. “Where’s Jason?”

“Waiting for Carly,” Sonny informed her. She looked radiant tonight he thought and then berated himself for the thought.

“Shall we get settled,” Bobbie asked motioning towards the table after everyone said hello.

Outside the No Name

“V,” Jason said surprised to see her.

“Surprise,” Carly said sweetly and kissed him.

“Surprise,” V asked. “Why should Jason be surprised?”

“So how do we look,” Carly asked ignoring V’s question.

“Good,” Jason answered. “It's great to see you again V.”

“She did something didn’t she,” V asked.

“Hello I’m here too,” Carly pointed out.

“Don’t worry I handled it,” Jason assured her.

“Excuse me,” Carly exclaimed. “Handled what,” Carly asked as they stepped into the restaurant.

Jason said nothing and led them to their table. “Com on Jas what did you do?”

Jason smiled at her, “Surprise,” he said and turned her to face the table. Carly’s eyes widened in shock when she saw Bobbie, Roy, Emily and Lucky at the table with Sonny.

“V,” Emily cried both surprised and happy to see the woman again. Emily got up from her chair and headed over to the standing group.

“Its good to see you Em,” V said giving her a quick hug. Seeing her again brought back memories of working for L&B at the Gatehouse. When things got out of hand at the Quartermaine’s Emily would come and hang out at the Gatehouse. Sometimes they would bust open a gallon of ice cream and talk.

“I never would have thought to see you walk in anywhere with Jason and Carly. Not say that you guys aren’t great,” Emily said quickly. “Sorry. Hi Jas,” she said hugging her brother.

“Don’t worry about it,” Jason said hugging her back. “You look nice.”

“Thanks,” Emily pulling back. “Carly you and V look spectacular.”

“You look good to,” Carly said cheerfully as she silently fumed at Jason for ruining her plan. “Mom you remember V?”

“Of course,” Bobbie replied getting over her shock. “I don’t know if you ever met Roy,” she said touching his arm lightly.

“Hi,” V said shaking his hand.

“Nice to meet you,” Roy replied.

“My cousin Lucky…”

“Wow Caroline when did you start admitting that,” Lucky asked trying to get her goat.

“He’s to much like Luke,” Carly snapped.

“Wait I thought he was dead,” V asked.

“Was Lucky still dead when you left,” Carly pondered.

“What does it matter I’m here now,” Lucky stated.

“He’ll never lose his ego,” Emily mumbled.

“I heard that,” Lucky informed her. Emily smiled slyly back at him.

“Any how,” Carly said ignoring everyone else. “This is Sonny. Sonny V,” she introduced.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Sonny said extending his hand. During the preceding scene Sonny watched each of the women. He wasn’t a fool; he knew why V was here. Carly was trying to distract him from Emily, not that he wanted her he tried to assure himself. V was indeed beautiful, but looking at the three of them standing together Sonny still felt his strange attraction to Emily. He had to stop thing about her…think about Carly. The one you love. Looking at her still made his heartache but…it was the but that was nagging him as his glance went back to Emily. There was no future there he reminded himself. It was then that V realized what Carly had done. She set her up on a blind date without telling the date.

V shot Carly a murderous glance before shaking Sonny’s hand. “Hi,” she said taking his hand.

Two Hours Later

“Not another toast,” Jason pleaded as a new song floated over to the table.

“Come on Jas I need practice,” Emily insisted.

“Fine but this is the last one,” Jason insisted.

“Until the next one,” Carly said under her breath.

“Okay here it goes…” Emily said lifting her soda. “To Jason,” she said looking fondly at him, “the best brother a girl could have and Carly,” Emily shifted her gaze to her ex and future sister-in-law “whom I am finding out is a good friend and very good for my brother.” Emily’s gaze swept across the rest of the group gathered as she continued. “The road you guys traveled hasn’t been easy but it proves that your love with last; that you can make it though the best and worst of times. Though I can’t guarantee that life will always be easy I wish that you have more good times then bad to look back upon.” Turning back to Jason and Carly she promised, “I will stand by you always. To your life and family together.”

“To Jason and Carly,” everyone said. Glass clinked and sips were taken.

“Good job Em,” Lucky complimented as she sat down.

“Not too long winded?”

“Nope,” Lucky assured her. “So how about we work off some of the food we just ate?”

“Is that your way of asking someone to dance,” Emily teasingly asked.

“Don’t know. Is that your way of saying yes,” Lucky mischievously countered.

Sonny laughed and leaned over to join their conversation. “If you want to dance just asked her,” he advised.

“Being direct is no fun,” Lucky commented.

“No but it gets quicker results. Watch,” Sonny instructed. “Emily do you want to dance?”

A faint blush crept up Emily’s cheeks. She wasn’t sure if they should…but then again it was just a dance. “I’d love too.”

“See,” Sonny said getting up to assist Emily.

"Show off,” Lucky half-heartedly grumbled.

Carly frowned as she watched Emily and Sonny danced. This night wasn’t going the way she had planned. Instead of Sonny getting his mind off of Emily he was getting his hands on her. Plus while he talked to V he hadn’t shown any real interest. “This all you’re fault,” Carly told Jason.

“What is,” Jason asked. He didn’t understand Carly’s need to fix Sonny up with someone.

It was right in front of his face Carly thought why didn’t he see it? They way Sonny looked at her and held her while they danced…it was obscene! “Nevermind I’ll figure something else out.”

“No,” Jason exclaimed. “No more plans Carly. Please. We’re getting our family isn’t that enough?”

“Of course. It’s all I ever wanted,” Carly replied.

“Are you sure? Lately you seem so wrapped up in Sonny…”

“Don’t even think it Jas. I love you. I want to be with you. I’m just worried about him that’s all,” Carly assured him.

“Sonny can take care of himself,” Jason reminded her.

But can Emily, Carly wondered.

“So would you like to dance?”

Carly smiled at Jason. Handling what might be going on between Sonny and Emily could wait for one night. “I’d love too.”

Lucky watched the couples dancing. Bobbie and Roy look contented to be with each other again. Happiness and love radiated from Jason and Carly. But what shocked him most was the way Emily and Sonny were dancing. The song was slow he knew but the way they swayed! The short glances they sent each other and the way Sonny was sliding his hand up and down her back. Lucky’s eyes widen with shock…

“No.”

Sonny could be the guy Emily was talking about, could he?

“Did you say something,” V asked.

“What? Yeah, how about we cut in,” Lucky suggested.

“I don’t…”

“Come one the man stole my girl,” Lucky said trying to convince her.

“I thought she was just a friend,” V asked.

“Well technically yes, but tonight she’s out with me which makes her my girl,” Lucky told. “Do I have to dare you?”

V’s eyes lit up, most didn’t know it but she was a sucker for a dare, “Carly is right you’re too much like Luke,” she said standing up.

“So things are going well,” Sonny asked finally breaking the silence they had been dancing in.

“Yep. You,” Emily asked.

“I miss you dropping by but besides that things are good,” Sonny told her.

“I miss stopping by but…”

“I wanted to apologize for that,” Sonny cut in.

“I all ready told you before I don’t want an apology Sonny,” Emily reminded him.

“Its just that…”

“Hey,” Lucky said tapping Sonny on the shoulder, “mind if I cut in? I even brought you a new partner.”

“Ah, no” Sonny replied stepping away from Emily. “V,” he said taking her hand.

“That was kind of rude Lucky,” Emily pointed out as they began to dance.

“Rude,” Lucky asked innocently. “So do you want to tell me about you and Sonny?”

“What we’re friends,” Emily said.

“Wrong he’s the guy you’ve been telling me about. The one who’s be distracting you from Zander.”

Emily stopped, her eyes filled with a mixture of worry and fear. “Lucky…”

“We’ll talk about it later we’re dancing now,” Lucky said. Emily looked into his blue eyes. Seeing his unwavering friendship she started to dance with him again.
