Apologies

As Emily regained her seat at the table, she barely heard Elizabeth asking nervously about Jason.

"Everything's fine." she murmered in reply. She was looking over towards Juan who was following her brother's every move. He caught her gaze and quickly averted his stare towards the stage. Pushing the thought out of her mind, she eagerly awaited her favorite band's performance at Jakes.

"I'm going to owe Jason for this night." Emily smiled happily to herself as she remembered the evening's events.

Juan glanced over at her as they strolled down to the docks.

Noticing his silence she called him on it.

Juan shrugged. "Your brother doesn't seem to like me very much."

"Well he doesn't like anyone who poses as a threat to him."

He stopped walking so suddenly, that Emily didn't even realize it until she was a few feet a head. She turned and looked back, puzzled.

"So now I'm a threat?"

"I didn't mean that, Juan, and you know it." She walked back over to stand in front of him. "He doesn't know you-"

"And he doesn't want to give me a chance." he added defensivly.

Emily couldn't believe her ears, couldn't believe how fast everything was turning around.

"Juan-" she began to question, but he continued.

"You know, I came here from Puerto Rico to find my father and that's all. That's all." He repeated firmly. "I don't need your friends. You know, they don't like me either, so I don't need them. And I don't need Tammy's advice or help anymore. Or yours either."

She crossed her arms over her chest and stared at him. "So, what are you saying?"

"I'm saying that no one is giving me a chance, so why stick around?"

"Wait," she stopped him before he could go anywhere. "You mean you're going back to Puerto Rico?"

"I have nothing for me here. My father wants nothing to do with me."

"Did you ever come to the conclusion that maybe he wants to keep you safe? I warned you about Sonny just the other day. You don't know him."

"And you do?"

"I've been around him more than you have." Her voice was rising as her cheeks grew flushed with anger. How had the evening start out so perfectly only to end with a heated argument? An argument that she had no idea how it had started. "My brother is Jason Morgan. Think about that Juan. I'm with him all the time. They're dangerous, there's no denying that. But that doesn't mean that Jason doesn't want me around, his only intention is to keep me safe."

Juan crossed his arms and glared at her. His jaw twitched as he listened to her speak. No, she was wrong. No one wanted him around and Sonny didn't give a damn about keeping him safe.

"What a wonderful speech." he said harshly. Emily's mouth flew open at his sarcasm.

"Fine." she threw her hands up in the air in exasperation and started up the steps. "Go back to Puerto Rico for all I care. Forget about your father, don't even try..." her voice trailed off as she rounded the corner.

Juan stared after her, a faint smile on his lips. He liked it when she was angry. Her brown eyes sparkling with fire appealed to him. Maybe there were things worth sticking around for.

Emily threw her purse across the room and let out a cry of frustration as she slammed the door behind her. The purse made contact with a vase filled with roses that Lila had so graciously picked for her that day. It crashed to the floor, the water spilling onto the clean carpet flowers, toppling to the floor. She made no attempt to pick it up, but flung herself on her bed.

"Emily?" She heard a voice call up the stairs. She stared at the ceiling. "Emily, is everything alright, sweetheart?"

"I'm fine mom." she called through the walls. Silence followed, so she assumed that Monica had gone back into the parlor.

The excitement from the performance and the argument from that evening exhausted her and after several minutes, she stood and headed towards her bathroom to shower and change. A knock from her window made her gasp and whirl around. Her face grew hard as she saw who it was.

"Go away." she called to the figure crouching by the window.

"Come on, Emily Bowen-Quartermaine, let me in."

"No Juan, go away, I mean it."

"Fine, leave me here to fall and break my neck." He held onto a thick tree branch.

Emily shrugged and smirked, hands on her hips.

"Fine."

He looked astonished. "Are you kidding me?"

"Are you going to apologize?"

"I can't do it crouching down like this, now can I?"

Rolling her eyes, Emily crossed the room and unlocked her window.

Feeling relieved, Juan climbed through and hopped to the ground.

"You can't be making this a habit, you know. Now apologize."

"Now wait a minute-"

Emily raised an eyebrow. No apology? "Out." she pointed to the window.

He held out his hands in defense. "Hold on, would you? I did some thinking."

He noticed that Emily was about to remark and quickly rushed on. "You're right. I'm sticking around."

"Is that all?"

"What more do you want me to say?" he asked innocently.

Once again she pointed towards the window.

"Out." she demanded.

"Alright, alright. I'm sorry for getting all angry at you. It was wrong of me." He glanced at her. "Happy?"

She grinned. "Very. Now really, get out."

"Don't you want to know the real reason I'm staying?" He asked, edging closer.

"Because of your father?" She replied as if it were obvious.

Juan shook his head, a sly smile playing along his lips. "Nah," he said. "It's because of you."
