Sprintfreak's Travels

SPRINTFREAK'S TRAVELS May 10, 1999

Hello sprintcar fans, its the sprintfreak back with another week of sprintcar news and notes! It was a soggy weekend for most, however, quite a few shows did get run. The All-stars got three of four run, but the Outlaws only got in one show over the weekend. Well, off to the news!

The big news of the weekend was Dale Blaney and Tim Hughes returning to action together with the All-stars this weekend. As I reported last week, Dale and the Hughes #94 made their return at the Williams Grove Speedway with Dale finishing in the top ten in his first night back in the #94. At Lincoln one night later, Dale once again finished in the top ten. Two solid runs to start off with for the #94 team, look for Dale to get his first win this coming weekend at Attica or Eldora, two of Dale's favorite tracks!

Another story of the weekend was California's Brad Furr, who towed east to run with the All-stars for a while. Brad looked fast, but failed to pick up a victory. Look out if this guy decides to stay here for a while! He is smooth and a good time trialer! A real good combination when running with the All-stars. Brad also showed up at Tri-city on Sunday(after Sharon cancelled)and finished fourth in a stout local show! Brad won his heat, but seemed to just miss the setup a bit in the feature. Like I said, watch out if he decides to run out here for a while! By the way, Brad gets my vote for having the nicest hauler in the pits! Brad has an Outlaw quality set up as far as truck, trailer, and equipment!

How about "Fast" Freddie Rahmer! Three for three with the All-stars this weekend. Fred and the Hamilton crew have really got things going in the right direction. At the begining of the year there were a lot of people saying that Fred was off his game and that the team was using the wrong equipment and tires. Well after Fred's performance over the past couple of weeks, I'd say Freddie's doing just fine! I've heard from more than one driver that the new J&J chassis is a little tricky to figure out, but once you hit the setup the car will fly! I think Freddie has hit the "setup"!

How about all the Outlaw regulars who ran at Knoxville Saturday night. Even with about ten Outlaws in the pits it was local Skip Jackson coming away with the victory. Skip has been tough to beat at Knoxville the past couple of seasons, maybe Skip can do some damage at this years Nationals!

One of the biggest disappointments of the weekend had to be Sharon Speedway cancelling their Sunday All-star show. Now I can understand if it had been raining all day, but it hadn't, the sun was out most of the day. It didn't even rain the day before! I live nine miles from the track and the most rain we got in the 48 hours before the race was a little drizzle. Now Pa. is another story, they got hammered with rain, but somehow Tri-city was able to run their show! Something doesn't seem right here. This makes the second time this year that Sharon has cancelled under sunny skies and blamed it on wet grounds? Now I am not one to promote rumors, but I have heard from more than one reliable source that Sharon's present management is in financial trouble and that the two questionable cancellations are a result of this situation. I hope they get their act together or they are going to lose a lot of fans and teams who would otherwise support them!
