Since the release of the Wayans' Scary Movie in 2000, this site, as you could imagine, has received quite a bit more visitors and attention than usual. This is understandable and "any publicity is good publicity", but after a mere scan of the site (not to mention the HUGE poster on the front page) one can quickly surmise that this page is a resource for the film Scary Movie! or Small Town Serial Killers and Flesh Eaters. This film was produced by Firefly Entertainment in 1997 and is NOT, in any manner, related to the Wayans' film.

Firefly Entertainment has received many misinformed e-mails and such concerning the Wayans' Hollywood studio production. The majority of these communications are good-natured, but some are just down-right rude and ignorant. It is obvious in every instance (even the innocent letters) that those visitors are truly not even looking at the entire title of our site. None of these are more outrageous than a review of the Wayans' Scary Movie (2000) at the Lollu Express website (follow the link to view).

We at the official Scary Movie! or Small Town Serial Killers and Flesh Eaters homepage appreciate each and every web surfer that visits our page, but we would also like everyone to be more informed concerning the uniqueness of our film so as to not waste your internet surfing time or hinder your enjoyment.

    Have fun & Stay Scared!

On Wednesday the 25th of October in the year 2000, an e-mail was received by this site's webmaster, Larry Mauk, from Mr. Jeff Shiels, the acquisitions manager of Troma Entertainment. It seems as though Scary Movie! and Firefly Entertainment could soon become Tromaville's newest residents. Mr. Shiels has expressed Troma's interest in distributing the film worldwide.

Firefly's president and creator of Scary Movie!, Ryan B. Dixon, has contacted Troma and has sent out a preview copy of the film in hopes that it will only be a matter of time before you can walk into your local video store and purchase your own copy of the Troma release of Scary Movie! or Small Town Serial Killers and Flesh Eaters. Let it also be noted that there is a good possibility that we will have to re-shoot and re-cut parts of the film, adding lots of gore and nudity into the mix before distribution.

    Keep your fingers crossed!

A very important announcement--this Friday (10/27/00) at 7:30 PM at the Pleasant Valley Golf course is the premiere of Firefly's 13th feature film, The Guild. The movie stars Ryan Dixon and Monte Stiffler of Scary Movie!, plus Billy Simmons and Yusef Gatewood (Wonderboys). The story follows a reporter (Dixon), who is sent to an eccentric rural town to investigate the murder of another reporter. Once there, he finds that the town is no ordinary place, but the staging ground for the activities of the Guild, a mysterious secret organization. As the reporter finds himself drawn more and more into the mysterious world of the Guild, his life, as well as others are put into jeopardy. This film was edited by Joe Stapleton, produced by Ryan Dixon, and written and directed by Joseph Rusin.

Everyone is invited to the premiere. After the movie is the golf course's annual Halloween party featuring the band Stillwater. Come on out and show your support for Firefly. (Note: The Pleasant Valley Golf Course is located in Vintondale, PA)

The following is a message posted on the Scary Movie! Message Board by the writer/director/producer of Scary Movie!, Ryan Dixon:

"Just a little information that Scary Movie! fans might enjoy hearing. In the next year or so, it is very likely that Firefly Entertainment will be producing DVDs of their films. One that will definitely be on the list is a special edition of Scary Movie!. This special addition would include a new digital remastering of the film, new scenes, a documentary about the film, audio commentaries and much, much more. Although it's a little while away, just keep checking in to hear updates. For all the Scary Movie! fans, I hope this comes as exciting news."

    Thanks, Ryan Dixon 4/23/00

The Paramount Pictures' film, Wonder Boys hit theaters on February 25th. Firefly Entertainment is proud to admit that two of their members can be found in the film. Ryan Dixon, co-president and founder of Firefly Entertainment and writer, director, and producer of Scary Movie!, appears in the film as an extra. Firefly actor Yusuf Gatewood can be seen in two of the film's first scenes and also has a speaking part in a classroom scene. Both Yusuf and Ryan are also featured in the upcoming Firefly film, The Guild, directed by Joseph Rusin.

Firefly Entertainment has won a 1999 Aegis Award for Scary Movie! or Small Town Serial Killers and Flesh Eaters. The Aegis Awards are the video industry's premier competition for peer recognition of outstanding video productions and non-network TV commercials. This year's Aegis Award is the first for Firefly. Scary Movie! was recognized for its outstanding production quality in the category of Drama/Entertainment by a distinguished panel of judges representing industry professionals from around the country. "I wanted to try to enter it [Scary Movie!] into a real contest to see how it would do," said Firefly co-president Joe Stapleton. Once again, "Scary Movie!" will be part of another package on WIUP 16's "Inside Entertainment". This package will explore the genre of "Cult" films. Clips from "Scary Movie!" will be featured, along with interviews from "Scary Movie!"'s Jeff Henry, IUP film professor, Dr. Thomas Slater, and Mario Bava biographer Troy Howarth. The show will air on April 27, 1999, on WIUP 16, at 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM.

WIUP TV 16's weekly entertainment show, "Inside Entertainment," will present a short feature on the fifth year anniversary of Firefly Entertainment. This package includes interviews with "Scary Movie!" personnel Jeff Henry and Joe Stapleton, actress Corrie-lynn Dyson, and clips from the film. "Inside Entertainment" reporter and "Scary Movie!"'s own Larry Mauk compiled this presentation. It WILL air on March 31, 1999 at 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM on WIUP TV 16. The show will also feature the television premiere of the trailer for the upcoming Firefly film, "Eve."

"Scary Movie!" writer, producer, and director Ryan B. Dixon is rumored to be working on a top secret horror film script to be filmed next summer. Undisclosed sources have said that Special Agent Jack Sommers, of "Scary Movie!", will have a feature role in this presentation.

Firefly actor Jeff Henry (Harvey in "Scary Movie!) is presently working on scheduling an airing of "Scary Movie!" on the brand-spanking new television station, WUPJ, in Johnstown. Jeff is also playing a feature role in an original series, not affiliated with Firefly, on that station.

Saturday, November 7 marked the passing of Firefly actor Rick Consalvo. Rick died in his apartment of a heart attack. Rick was 42.

Rick's Firefly performances included the crazed farmer Ned Granger in "Pure Silk" and Beldric, the idiotic detective in "Scary Movie! or Small Town Serial Killers and Flesh Eaters." Rick also made an appearance on the defunct "Firefly Entertainment Presents." This year Rick and Sean Mack were awarded "Best Duo" at the 1998 Dal Dalmane Awards for their performances in "Scary Movie!." Unable to attend the awards, Sean Mack joked that Rick "was on location in Panama shooting a movie." Rick was an employee of Pleasant Valley Golf Course, Vintondale, PA and had begun to work at the Johnstown Water Authority. Rick will be sadly missed by all those who knew him and the members of Firefly would like to express their sympathy to the Consalvo family.

A memorial and benefit screening of "Scary Movie!" at IUP is in the works right now. Donations would be excepted and would then be given to the Consalvo family.

On November 6th, the presentation on "Scary Movie!" went extremely well. The film students enjoyed the film and had many good things to say and many interesting questions and views on the film. A brief history of Firefly Entertainment was also given along with this detailed analysis of "Scary Movie!" This presentation also spawned a few prospective Firefly associates who were inspired by the film and wish to work with us in the future.

On October 25th, the Indiana Gazette included a feature story entitled, "What Makes us Scream," written by Mary Ann Slater. It dealt with the popularity of horror films in our culture. "Scary Movie!" was mentioned among other films such as the "Night of the Living Dead" series, "Poltergeist," and the "Evil Dead" series. Insights and comments by Firefly member and horror film buff Larry Mauk were also a feature of this article.

On October 15th, a copy of "Scary Movie!" was presented to horror special effects specialist Greg Nicotero, of KNB Special EFX (Los Angeles). He has worked on films such as "Day of the Dead," "Scream," "Spawn," "Men in Black," "Mars Attacks!," "Pulp Fiction," "From Dusk Till Dawn," and installments of the "Friday the 13th" series. He was a member of a panel discussion at IUP that night consisting of George Romero, Kane Hodder (Jason), Doug Bradley (Pinhead), and David Skal (horror writer). The topic was "Horror in American Culture." "Scary Movie!" was given to Mr. Nicotero's eager arms by Firefly member Larry Mauk, at a reception following the presentation. Our fingers are crossed in hopes that something becomes of this!!

A presentation on "Scary Movie!" will be held November 6th, 1998 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in room 219 Leonard Hall at 2:15 pm. It is a project for IUP's LS 499 senior synthesis course, "Questions of Identity in Horror Films." The group presenting the project consists of Larry Mauk, Jim Riggle, and Frank Stetar. The film will be shown to the class on the 4th and 6th of November.

Members of Firefly Entertainment (tentatively, Jeff Henry, Larry Mauk, and Joe Stapleton) will be guests on WIUP's "Up Late with Jimmy Bradley" show sometime this season. The date will be announced ASAP. They will be discussing Firefly, in general, and "Scary Movie!", in anticipation of its premeire on WIUP (some time this school year) and performing some sort of skit for the show.
