Neon -- by Maria L.

Why is this element important in everyday life?

Neon is important for everyday life because Neon emits brilliant red light when stimulated by electric current so it is useful for advertising signs. Signs for advertising are everywhere. It is also a noble gas so it is used for storage of reactive elements.

Where is this element found in nature?

Neon is a noble gas and no known compounds were ever found of neon so it has to be found in the Earth's atmosphere.

What are the properties of the element?

Who is Nobel Neon ?

Nobel Neon was feeling colorless and monotonically gassy the other day so he decided to enter a contest to make himself feel better. When he signed up for the contest he was put in a group and given a number. Out of eighteen groups and one hundred and eighteen numbers, he was in group eighteen and given the number ten. Because all of his orbitals were already filled he really had nothing to lose or nothing to gain from the contest. He is very non-reactive, so he was the second guy down to go on his team. All of his teammates were very similar to him and noble. They worked together well. His only concern was the temperature because he melts at -248.7 degrees Celsius and boils at -246.0 degrees Celsius. His group won by using their compositions and making a colorful neon advertising sign. They cheated because they also used their bodies to store the other groups so they would not be able to react and do their jobs as they would have done normally. Finally, the judges ranked him as the fourth most abundant in the world. He was stimulated by the conclusion of his victory and emitted a brilliant red light. Now he is not saddened by the fact that he will not ever form a compound because he remembered that he is used extensively.
