Objectives and Materials for Snow Hollow Home School 2000-2001
Jessica Grigalunas- Entering 10th grade

English-to include language, literature, speech and composition. Objectives being to improve writing skills, write many stories, be published (again), continue enjoying great literature.

Materials to be used: Writing Strands Creating Fiction, Learning Language Arts Through Literature Gold Book, Comprehensive Composition, personal journal, public speech through 4-H, reading of several classics, historical fiction, biographies, etc.

Math- to include general math, computer, algebra and geometry. Objectives being to grasp a better understanding of algebra, learn about practical math use- budgeting, continue learning computer basics.

Materials to be used: Saxon Algebra 1/2, Hands On Algebra, Astro Algebra (software), Money Matters For Teens , continued upgrading and maintainance of personal web pages, internet math and stock market games.

Science- to include earth science, physiology, astronomy. Objectives being to continue nurturing curiosity and implementing means of finding answers.

Materials to be used: Anna Comstock's Handbook of Nature Study, Personal Nature Journal, Lyrical Science, 4-H Hydroponics Study and Cat III, The Human Body, Oceans and Ecology by TCM, Gray's Anatomy of the Body Coloring Book, The Bones Book, Press Out Human Skeleton Model, Turn Left at Orion, Whitney's Night Sky Book, various web sites, Earthsearch, Explorabook and ZAP!.

Social Studies- to include American history, Pennsylvania history, world history, geography and civics.

Objectives being to continue learning about the world and its people through great literature, trips and personal experience.

Materials to be used: Geosafari Talking Globe, internet, literature, DK Atlas, DK Encyclopedia, Encarta, Brain Teasers, My American Journey, Revolutionary War by TCM, newspaper, field trips, maps , timeline and History Channel.

Everyday Moral Values- Objectives being to encourage good citizenship and continued growth in the Lord.

Materials to include: Introductory Logic, Church and Youth Group, camp counselling, Bible study, Beautiful Girlhood, Stepping Heavenward, Jonathan Lindvall's Scriptural Romance, Bible Trivia, Chicken Soup for the Teen Christian Soul.

Arts and Humanities- Objectives are to encourage self expression and widen horizons through art and music appreciation and foreign language.

Materials to include: How Great Thou ART, Powerglide French, Choir, Reader's Digest Crafts and Hobbies, recorder and lap harp, field trips.

Physical Fitness- Objectives being to continue focusing on good hygiene, personal fitness and nutritious eating.

Materials to be used: Personal home fitness program, dietary journal, group gym class, hiking, swimming, camping, regular visits to doctor and dentist.

Fire and Safety- Objectives being to continue caring about the safety of our children by regular ongoing discussions, demonstration and practice as need arises.

Materials to be used: Simply Grammer by Charlotte Mason, Saxon Intervention Phonics, personal journal , library books, software, Keyboard Skills Book.

Math- to include general math and computer. Objectives being to continue learning general math functions and computer.

Materials to be used: Saxon 54, Mighty Math and Math Blasters Software, continued upgrading and maintainance of personal web pages.

Science- to include earth science and physiology. Objectives being to continue nurturing curiosity and implementing means of finding answers.
