Telling Lies in America tells the story of a young immigrant in Cleveland in the 50s. His relationship with a less-than-honest radio disc-jockey, played by Kevin Bacon, is what the film revolves around.

Brad was brought to the project by producer Fran Kuzui, who established a relationship with Brad during the Asian release of The Cure. She also brought director Guy Ferland to the project. Mr. Ferland had worked with Brad before, having been director Joel Schumacher's assistant on The Client.

Brad says: "Every teenager wants to be accepted by his classmates, to be considered cool and popular. There's so much insecurity and concern about social status at that age - imagine how much worse it is for a kid ... who doesn't know how to speak, dress or act like his peers. Karchy [Brad's character] is picked on and ridiculed by some of the other kids. He desperately wants to become involved with Magic [Kevin Bacon]'s radio show, and sees that as a way to prove to everyone that he's as good as they are. And he really wants to impress this girl he likes who works with him at the grocery store."

This film was released in Japan as 17 in the summer of 1997 and was released to about 35 major markets in the US in November, 1997. If you missed it at the local theatre, don't feel bad; chances are it didn't play in your town.

The film is now available on Laserdisc and VHS.
