HOW TO USE A VOTING MACHINE

BEFORE YOU GO INTO THE VOTING BOOTH
Look at the model voting machine at each polling place. Be sure you know how to operate the curtains, the buttons and the write-in slots. Locate on the machine any ballot questions, candidates or judicial retention candidates. Questions always appear on the right of the ballot, candidates and offices appear to the left and judicial retention appear at the top of the ballot. If you have any questions, you may request a demonstration and instructions about the machine from the election officials a sample machine is located at each polling location.

WHEN YOU STEP UP TO THE VOTING BOOTH
Be sure the curtains are properly closed. The machine inspector will set the machine prior to your entering. No one can tell how you vote. If there are questions on the ballot, vote "yes" or "no" for each one.

WHEN YOU FINISH VOTING
Check your ballot. With the exception of the Write-in slot, you may make as many changes as you like by pressing on the light located at the candidtes name. Be sure that you have cast all the votes to which you are entitled.

Make sure that you press the vote button located at the bottom right of the machine, YOUR VOTE WILL BE RECORDED!

If you have trouble... call out... DO NOT open the curtain!

TO VOTE FOR CANDIDATES ON THE BALLOT
Read the instructions which tell the number of candidates for whom you can vote under each office.

IN THE PRIMARY ELECTION:
The machine will be set so that you can vote only for candidates in the party in which you are registered. You vote for individuals by pressing the small button to the right of the candidate's name.

IN THE GENERAL OR MUNICIPAL ELECTION:
You can vote for any of the candidates on the ballot, regardless of party. You can vote for individuals by pressing the button next to the candidate's name. If you vote for candidates in more than one party, you are voting a Split Ticket.

You can vote for all candidates in one party by pressing the "Straight Party Ticket". If you vote in this manner, you are voting a Straight Ticket.

TO VOTE FOR CANDIDATES NOT ON THE BALLOT
You may vote for a person whose name does not appear on the ballot. This is a Write-in vote and may be done at the Primary, Municipal and General Elections. Press the write-in button located at the bottom right of the office, the write-in button will begin to blink at the top of the machine, press this button, the write-in window (black shutter) will open. DO NOT PRESS THE WRITE-IN BUTTON UNLESS YOU INTEND TO USE IT! Once the slot is open you can close it but it will register as a vote for that office.
