Jebediah at the Mermaid's Lounge - August 25th 2000

All of this, made possible by my darling matthew who arrived friday night to pick me up!! We got to the Mermaid around 9pm. As soon as we walked in the door, who did we see but Vanessa and Chris getting sozzled at the bar before their show! I went up to them, introduced myself as a crazy stalking fan, and they invited me and matt to sit with them and have a drink! How nice!! Kevin was playing around with his guitar when we came in, so of course we didn't bother him, and we didn't see brett right away either, he was the one who was seen walking by and then disappeared! *spooky*

Many things were discussed. The most important perhaps being the issue of beer 'cozzies'. Or whatever you silly aussies call them. To keep your beer cold! Of course. (faint recollections of the phrase "you don't need luck... if you're good" come to mind!! <-- lovely inside joke!!) Vanessa seemed rather upset about the fact that these cozzies are very difficult to find in canada!! Why does it take you aussies so long to drink a beer that it gets warm?! You need to take a few lessons from us canadians, that's what I say!! Drink your beer FASTER!! We were lead to believe that Jebediah were learning to be fans of the great molson canadian beverage. (Their commercials are very funny, you should look into them. Indeed.) BUT, apparently it didn't compare to an australian beer, whose name i can't remember right now, but we're sure it's great! *cough*butnotcanadian*cough*

While beer cozzies are in my head, they also mentioned some aussies had been to a previous show and sported their own cozzies at the show! I thought that was SO funny. (drink faster!!!)

We, of course, got to talking about other bands. They asked if i knew of any other australian bands, and well... other than silverchair i'm pretty limited. My new friend carly sent me a Body Jar single, so i mentioned that!! They were impressed (yay!) saying that body jar were good friends of theirs and that they can't wait for their new album!! Another they kept mentioning was regurgitator. I've heard of them a lot so i think i am going to have to check them out. oh yes! I gave them a finger eleven single, and i hope they listen to it! They hadn't heard much in the way of amazing canadian bands that they can stick a name to yet, so hopefully they'll like f11!! (the tea party doesn't count. everybody in australia knows them already!!)

After about 45 minutes of crazy chatting, the opening dude, who played acoustic guitar and sang (and whose name i can't remember!!) started. All the jebbies were at the back of the pub huddled in a big circle, we suspect they were going over their plans to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! However we are still uncertain as we were too afraid to ask.

Then the time came for the show to begin!! I was soooo excited!!
The first song they played was a new one, so i couldn't sing along. Well i could have pretended by singing "watermelon cantelope" over and over again, but i didn't.

Their set list:
NDC
Did you really
Jerks of attention
Congratulations
Harpoon
Animal
If you want
Please leave
Feet touch the ground
Star machine

I was kind of upset that they didn't play Teflon, but I'll survive.

My seat (yes, seat!!) was at the very front of the pub, nobody was in front of me, and my pictures turned out great!!!!

During a few songs (Star machine and another but i forget which one) Kevin came off stage and started rolling and bending on the ground. What a nut!

I was the only one in sight that seemed to know jebediah, except for Heath and well, their roadies. I totally didn't recognize Heath from people's descriptions. While talking to Chris he came up and I heard Chris say "Heath", so me being the bright one that i am, put this crazy puzzle together!! I didn't talk to Heath though, he scared me. Well not really but i didn't have a reason to talk to him!

The stage that they had to play on was SO small that they basically had to stand there and maybe bop their heads, but that's it. The ceiling was about a foot from the top of kevin's head! Vanessa did her little bopping up and down and Chris did a little back and fourth dance. Kevin is strange. If he's not on the floor on his knees or back or stomach, then when on stage he does his weird screwed up head banging! One of the pictures has him caught in mid "bang" with his eyes rolled back in his head and some funky thing going on with his mouth!! What a nut.

At the end of Star Machine Kevin came off stage once again, followed by Chris! Vanessa stayed and grooved with Brett. Chris had his back to the crowd for the most part (yay butt shots!!) and their roadie (i have no idea what HIS name is... he's in one picture!) he came up behind Chris and squeezed his bum!! I took the picture about 2 seconds before this happened! I SO wish i would have waited for the big squeeze! That would have made a great picture.

After the show was all over and they were nearly all packed up, I got my lovely friend Rich to run to the stage and grab the setlist that was taped to the ceiling! There wasn't much competition for the setlist needless to say. On rich's journey he also picked me up a poster for the month of august which had Jebediah on the 25th! yay! He also picked up a luggage tag which happened to belong to Chris! I know, I know, that's just strange. I agree. I don't know what to do with it!! Maybe I will give it back to him if i see them in October!! That'll scare him good now won't it??

Later on we all ended up outside chatting to the jebbies while they were finishing up their drinks. I got them all to sign my Of Someday Shambles CD and the set list, of course! Matt took pictures of me with each of them too! The only one that looks rather "normal" is Chris! The rest have weird looks on their faces!! Rich insisted that Kevin recite a line from Seinfeld, something along the lines of "A dingo stole my baby!" a few times. Gotta love those australian accents! (oh, and i do!!) I like Vanessa's accent the best. I had a hard time stopping myself from mimicking them. It's so cute!!

Chris apologized for their show not being very exciting! It was for me, but i guess because they couldn't move around they thought it wasn't their best. Chris promised us that the next day he would smash something on stage to entertain us.

We left the pub the same time as Jebediah did, but no, we weren't sad! Why? Well because we were going to see them again the next day, that's why!

So overall it was an amazing show! I got to sit around chatting and drinking beer with one of my most favourite bands!! What more could i ask for?!? >:)~
