Generation No. 1

1.  GEORGE4 DAY, SR  (NICHOLAS3, JOHN (DAY)2 DEE, MORGAN (DAY)1) was born Abt. 1640 
in New Haven, CT (researching), and died Abt. 1684 in Newark Essex Co NJ.  
He married MARY RIGGS Abt. 1663 in Milford CT, daughter of EDWARD RIGGS and ELIZABETH ROOSA.  
She was born Abt. 1644 in Derby, Fairfield Co. CT, and died 1712 in Newark Essex Co NJ.

Notes for GEORGE DAY, SR:
The DAY family were early settlers of Morris County NJ having gone there from Newark New Jersey. The  first members of the family came originally from England and formed part of the Milford and Hanford colonies of Connecticut.  From CT a little
band of colonists penitrated into New Jersey abt the middle of the 17th Century and found the 
city of NEWARK. The ancestors of Silas Day were among those early settlers of Newark. 
The grandfather of Mary RIGGS wife of George DAY was born in England, came to America
with his wife and family of six children on one trip of the Mayflower to Amercia in 1633. 
They settled at Roxbury Massachusettes and than at Riggs Hill near Boston Mass.George 
is noted as a "HorseNeck Founder" of Newark NJ.

Unknown, daughter of THOMAS BROWN.  She was born Unknown, and
died Unknown.


Notes for PAUL DAY:  Deed. Dec. 16, 1701, "Whereaswe, Paul Day and George Day, both of Newark
 
in the county of Essex and in the province of East New Jersey, freeholders, have, by will, 
our honored father, George Day, deceased", etc. The deed mentions land "formerly owned by our 
Grandfather Riggs' meadow." Agreement Feb 20, 1702 between Paul Day and John Riggs, mentions 
land "formerly surveyed and belonging unto Edward Riggs Senior deceased" viz.x.x "The whole 
right property and privilege whereof is now devolved upon and belongs unto two of the grandchildren 
of the said Edward now surviving namely Paul Day, the son of Mary, and John Riggs the son of 
Joseph Riggs." vix. Paul to have upland lying by Jonathon Tompkins "formerly our grandfather Riggs' 
land and of late belong to ye forsaid Paul and George" (sic) March 27, 1685. Survey to Matthew Williams 
at the Mountain, 60 acres lying for 30 acres x x x bounded N. by Mary Day, now Mary Oliff, belonging to 
Paul Day, George Day and Samuel Day. (Mary Riggs Day was remarried to Anthony Oliff) March 27, 1685, 
Paul Day, George Day, and Samuel Day, heirs to George Day dec'd have surveyed to them by William Camp  
60 acres lying of 30 acres, 60 rods along by 76 rods side bounded W. on the Mountain S. on 
Matthew Willaims, E. by Wigwam Brook and N. by Commons.May 1, 1697, Patent to Paul Day of Newark is 
right of his father, George Day, locate of Newark, for 87 acres there. Paul Day, the eldest son of 
George, married Phoebe Brown, daughter of Thomas Brown.

born July 17, 1715 in Newark Essex Co NJ, and died March 25, 1777 in Morristown, NJ.  
He married (1) ELIZABETH (UNK MAIDEN) DAY Abt. 1738 in Unknown.  She was born December 1715 
in Unknown, and died April 22, 1761 in Morristown, NJ.  He married (2) ZERVIA (WIDOW) WINES 
October 12, 1761.  She was born 1720, and died December 21, 1776.

Notes for SAMUEL DAY, CAPT:
Samuel Day II a posthumpus son of Samuel I and Abigail, grandson of George, was born in 
Newark, NJ July 15, 1715. His family moved to Morristowne, NJ before 1639. Samuel survived 
as as ensign in Captain Thompson's Company of minute-men in 1775, as a wagon master. He was 
later made Captain and is referred to in the Morristowne records as "Captain Samuel Day". His 
first wife, Elizabeth b Dec 1715 d Apr 4 1761 left 11 children ages 22 to 2 1/2 years old, 
5 under 11 years of age. Six months after Elizabeth's death, Samuel married Mrs. Zervia Wines. 
Apparently she had 3 daughters, 3 of Samuel's sons married Wines girls. Captain Samuel Day died 
at Morristown. His first wife Elizabeth died. He married a widow.  He died of smallpox Mar 25, 1777. 
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, buried in First Presbyterian 
Churcy yard in Morristown NJ.

(1) PHOEBE WINES October 17, 1774.  She was born Abt. 1750, and died March 02, 1777.  He married (2) 
ANN [CRANE) LUDLOW March 15, 1799 in Morristown Morris Co NJ, daughter of ANTHONY LUDLOW and SOPHIA HUDSON.  
She was born Abt. 1755 in Long Island, NY, and died May 09, 1838 in Canisteer, NJ.
Notes for JEDUTHAN DAY I:
Jeduthan Day (son of Samuel II, Samuel I, and Geroge) was born Jan 28, 1748 and married Phebe, 
daughter of Isiah Wines on October 17, 1774. She was Jeduthan's step sister. One son Silas b Jul 29, 1776 
was only 7 months old when Phebe died Mar 3, 1777 at age 27. Silas died Apr 9, 1777. Were these deaths due 
to the smallpox epidemic which took Samuel II ? On Mar 15, 1779, Jeduthan married Anne Ludlow, daughter of 
Anthony and Sophia (Hudson) of Long Island. Jeduthan was an intelligent and well-to-do farmer owning a large 
and unencumbered farmm in or near what is called Morristow, NH. They had 6 children, only four living to 
adulthood. Anne Ludlow was widowed from "Crane" wa born on Long Island died at Canisteer NJ May 9, 1838. 
She had three husbands.
