When Ray Malavasi was hired as the defensive coordinator in 1973 the Rams went to odd-man lines and became even better. From 1973 to 1977 Rams were best defense in NFL.

In the decade of the 1970s (Malavasi was responsible in most ways from 1973-79)
The Rams Defense:
Allowed fewest rushing yardsAllowed fewest rushing TDs Allowed fewest total yards Allowed the fewest points and sack the QB the most times. Basically #1 vs run, #1 in Sacks and #1 in total defense and #1 in scoring defense.
Ray Malavasi never got the credit he deserved.
