This Era Of Icelandic Coins is referred to by World Coin Collectors as "The Nationals", but only by World Coin Collectors from outside Iceland. Iceland is still a Republic, but coin collectors needed a way to seperate the two different currencies of 1946-1980, and 1981-date. All prior Iceland coins were remonitized, 100 old Kronur is Equal to 1 new Krona.
Currently, this is the smallest portion of Collecting Iceland, but due to the ever increasing Commemorative proliferation, it can get a bit pricy, still, the most valuable coin from the Nationals is only $225.00, so nothing is unattainable. The only real problem is that 20 of the 50 coins have mintages of 15,000 or less.
Total production as of this date, is 202,995,000 coins with a face value of 1,837,439,750 Islandic Kronur(about 26.55 million United States Dollars on 01-27-04).
