eBack - System for More Detailed Feedback on eBay Transactions
eBay is a fantastic marketplace. Part of what makes eBay work so well is the feedback system. Feedback helps buyers and sellers
determine how much trust to place in their trading partners. However, I have always felt that the eBay Positive, Neutral, and
Negative feedback categories were too general and arbitray. When you are extremely pleased or disappointed with a transaction, the
80 character limit of the feedback system can prevent a fair presentation of facts that might be useful to other eBay customers.
Other eBay'ers really need to know your level of satisfaction or dissatisfaction and to some extent the reason for that opinion.
For my part, I have chosen to use this web page to provide more detailed feedback on my eBay transactions.
From my view, an eBay transaction is really either a positive or negative experience. Positive feedback seems to indicate that the
transaction went as expected, with no significant problems. It is a tribute to most eBay'ers that most transaction seem to
fall in this category. Negative feedback may indicate anything from minor problems that result in an unpleasant buying/selling
experience to full blown disasters. But many people seem to think that negative feedback a harsh action and it often evokes
even harsher responses. Buyers and sellers that have problems don't have enough space to explain a problem and may chose not to leave
negative feedback for fear of retribution. This creates a lack of detail that doesn't help others making buying/selling decisions.
I never felt like the Neutral feedback category served much purpose. By the almost total lack of Neutral feedback, I think most
people would agree. If "Neutral" is used to indicate minor shortcomings and is qualified, it would have meaning and might be used
more.
To have some consistency, I propose use of a Buyer Feedback Point System and
Seller Feedback Point System.
