IRISH
LANGUAGE WINTER SCHOOL, SYDNEY 2005
The
members of the Irish Language classes at the Gaelic Club, Devonshire St, Surry
Hills, are hosting Scoil Gheimhridh, a Winter School, on the Irish Language at:
Chevalier
Resource Centre, Kensington
from
Friday evening to Monday morning,
10-13
June 2005.
The
emphasis will be on practical spoken Irish in an enjoyable and
down-to-earth setting within a relaxed and supportive environment.
Combined effort
Language
teachers from Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Wollongong, who have pledged
their help, will assist us in the holding of this Winter School.
Classes at your
own level
Each
student will be assigned to an appropriate class according to his or her level
of fluency.
There
will be a special class, or classes, for those who are complete beginners and
have no knowledge of Irish.
Activities
will be also arranged for those who are at least reasonably fluent in Irish.
They will have the opportunity, by conversing with native speakers and other
fluent people, to improve or brush up on their language skills, which may have
become rusty.

is not a burden
Cost
The
price of the full course including accommodation for 3 nights, all meals and
tuition and entertainment, is $270.
However,
if you register before 1 May 2005, the price is $260.
It is
recommended that students live-in, if possible, because much of the
learning happens through informal contact with other people and this can occur
at any time. Evenings tend to finish rather late. Spaces are limited and early
booking is strongly encouraged.
The
cost for those not living-in is $140 for the full courser and $80 for one
full day. (This includes everything listed above except accommodation.)
A deposit of
$140 (or $80 if you are attending only for one day) is required by 1 May 2005.

Previous
schools have been great learning experiences but they have also been places
where fun and games, music, singing and dancing have meant that participants
have enjoyed a marvellous time. As a break from the language some time will be
made available for free classes in these activities each afternoon for those who
are interested. Language activities will continue simultaneously for those who
prefer this.
There will also be a concert upstairs at the Gaelic Club, which is
a licensed premises, on the Sunday night. The concert will be open to the general
public.
