I have an idea about what I want on my page, but nothing specific. How do I determine the price? Just ask. Send your idea along and I will work up a proposal. The initial consult is always free. Once we've got a clear idea about the number of graphics to be included, as well as the amount of text/content, then I can give you a set price for the page(s).
I have an Internet Service Provider and have been toying around with setting up a home page, but can't find the time to figure out the software or get it finished. Can you help? That's how CES Web Design got started. Website design really isn't a mystery. It's just a matter of having the time to learn the code (or programs), generate the pages and maintain the site. The assumption is that you already know your way around the computer. CES is here to get those pages designed for you. While I don't offer instruction in the various website generating programs (I design pages using the raw HTML code), if you need help with getting page(s) onto your server, I can help there.
I've had my page for a few weeks now & want to add a few things. How can I do that? When you receive your web page(s), you'll also receive a quick guide to basic page editing. If your additions or changes are relatively minor (change of e-mail address, edit text, etc.), then periodic updates can be handled that way. If you have significant changes to make, I can give you a per job estimate. There is also a fee schedule for regular (monthly, quarterly, etc.) site maintenance.
I checked my website today and it didn't display. What happened? Most likely, it is a server problem. The files sent to you are the source code for the pages. As with any website, pages will only display on a working server. Check with your ISP. Once I've made sure that they display properly and have sent you the file(s), the site is yours to use as you like. Please note, if you have edited the original source code for the file(s) I sent, check for typos. That's another possibility for the page not displaying. If you lost track of your changes, don't forget that you were also sent the original files on a backup disk. That way you can upload the original web page(s) if necessary.
I have links to other sites on my page. What happens when they become invalid or outdated? Good question. This happens for many people who link to other sites. The best thing to do is to link to relatively stable sites, or modify the information you want from another page and incorporate it into your own website (respecting any applicable copyright laws, of course). But if you create a site knowing that the information will change or need to be updated frequently, it might be worthwhile to take advantage of my site maintenance service. This is a basic service that will check for updated links, verify that e-mail is working, etc. Service fees are not charged unless updates are made. (Alternately, you can use your website as a "test site" and use it to teach yourself how to update pages .)
I want to send a holiday message to my students. How costly is it to include seasonal messages on my page? That depends. If you want to create a specialized image (a class picture with a border & text message), that is usually considered a page update. But if you want to add a simple text message, generally something can be worked out under "site maintenance." Just send me a note with what you need and I can respond with a specific estimate. Also, please remember that holiday and seasonal updates are especially time-sensitive. I try to get them done in 1-2 days, so be sure to give me as much notice as possible.
If you have a general question about CES Web Design or a specific question about the website I designed for you, please feel free to e-mail me anytime. Thanks!
