Colten's Year
2005
Well Colten turned 13 in May. He is really starting
to grow into an adolecsant teen I guess. Not sure
I am ready for this, but so far so good. Except the
the time this last June when he and his friends
decided to ride their skateboards in wet cement here
at a local church. (shhhhhh you Schell boys, you know
you weren't all innocent :)
I just roll my eyes and pray that's the worse thing
he will do in his youth or ever!!
Needless to say we're going to have to take responsibiltiy
so I'm just going to take it out of his hide.
In July I treated Colten to a trip to Arkansas
with me and Kim. I was so so so excited to take
him somewhere totally new and experience a totally
new culture, and new landscape. He quickly discovered
many fishing holes and caught a hefty fish the minute
his pole hit the waster (of course). I just baked in
hot hot I mean HOT HUMID sun while he fished and sweat.
Boy howdy is it hot there. We took lots of drives around
to show him the "flavor" of the area. By the time
we left he said "I'm moving here when I grow up"
mind you he said the same thing when we went to Wyo.
and Colorado this summer. He enjoyed seeing the
Alligator farm, (they had over 800 gators) and
The "dead" armedillo's on the side of the road :)
Colten still fishes all the time here in Umatilla.
I have to admit thats the one thing I love about living
here, we are very close to lot's of outdoor type things
to keep a young man out of trouble. (hopefully)
He had befriended some of the local businesses down
town and does odd jobs for them to earn a buck here
and a buck there. :) suits me just fine.
This last quarter I bribed him with $ for his report card.
(sometimes his grades aren't the greatest)
I offered him $10.00 for every A and $5.00 for
for every B not counting P.E. I just knew he could
only bring home 1 maybe 2 A's if even that :
BOY was I wrong. That kid MARCHED home
with STRAIGHT A's I was totally flabbergasted!!
He still continue's to show a huge knack for being
resourceful. I think this can be his specialty.
He is not lazy at all and in fact has the cleanest
bedroom of ALL my kids. (if you can look past the
FREAK show he has going on in his room, quite
entertaining too, to say the leaset.
Singing fish and all.
~*~COLTENS ADVENTURES~*~
2004
Well, Colten turned 12 in May.
He is very very much alot like Grandpa.
Not sure either will admit to it though.
Colten never ceases to amaze me with
his resourcefulness. He is a "doer"
He makes things happen, gets things done.
He is honery and stubborn alot of the time,
but seem's to realize it and come right
back at ya' with love, affection, and appreciation.
He is a *True* Outdoorsmen.
The kid has it in his blood and "Needs"
to do all the guy stuff,
you know, fishing,and so on.
He also has the natural desire to work
on things just like grandpa.
Believe it or not, his bedroom
is the neatest cleanest one of the bunch
Although Aunt Sherida said
it looked like a Freak Show in there, LOL
Yes, Colten has a twisted sense of humor
And can be classified as the "Class Clown"
type of kid.
He caught several whopper fish this year.
He will go out to the river at 7a.m. and not return
ALL DAY
(don't worry we know where to find him)
He will withstand Frozen Toes and Fingers
to wait for that "chance" on catching the BIG ONE.
And he does. He seem's to be as good as the fishermen
who are as old as grandpa.
There is never a dull moment in the life of Colten.
He knows how to entertain himself and find things
to do. He is never idle, never lazy and never bored.
