Burrows, Alice L.
Alice L. Burrows, 63, of Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, and Suffern, N.Y., died July 17 in her home in East Stroudsburg. She was a guidance counselor for Nanuet (N.Y.) High School for more than 30 years before retiring last year. Previously, she was a guidance counselor and teacher for Phillipsburg High School and prior to that was a business teacher for Easton Area High School. She received her teaching degree from Elizabethtown College and a master's degree in counseling from Columbia University, New York City. Born in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of the late Ralph O. and Reba (Scott) Burrows. She was a member of Shawnee Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the East Stroudsburg Exchange Club and the La Bar Village Residents Association. Survivors: No immediate. Stephen J. ''Pete'' Harvilla, 74, of Bethlehem, died July 18 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was married to Elizabeth M. (Masteller) Harvilla for 50 years last September. He was a foundry foreman for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 36 years before retiring. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Repko) Harvilla. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Bethlehem. He served in the National Guard during the Korean War. He was a life member and volunteer for the National SOKOLS and a member of Tamany National Democratic Club, Bethlehem. James E. LaRoche, 83, of Palmer Township, died July 18 in his home. He was married to Helen L. (Morrison) LaRoche for 64 years last month. He was a drop forge engineer in factories in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Connecticut and Texas before retiring. Born in Hancock County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles and Maude G. (Nowlan) LaRoche. He was a member of First United Methodist, Easton. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Fremont, Ohio, and the Tin Can Sailors. He was a pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association. Survivors: Wife; son, James E. Jr. of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; daughters, Theresa C. Herrmann of Lebanon, N.J., Marilyn M. Before retiring as a repair supervisor of Keystone Cement, Bath, he was a welder for the former National Cement, Lower Nazareth Township. Born in Cementon, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mabel (Jacoby) Meckes. He was a member of Emmanuelsville Lutheran Church. He was a member of Manoquesy Masonic Lodge, Bath, a former Cub Scout Pack 35 leader, a former Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association and American Legion baseball umpire, a volunteer fireman for Allen Township Fire Company and a Men of Retirement Age, Bethlehem, tour director.
