Knot Tying
I have found it to be troublesome to keep stocked up with cords and ropes of many materials and diameters.
So now I stock up on just the fewest general purposes lines. I use 550 paracord (woven sheath, seven thin fibers inside) for almost everything.
It may be a bit heavy for some things, but you can use it as emergency bootlaces, belt, aircraft wing tie downs, package carrier, tarp guyline, etc. I keep at least 50 ft of paracord in my
pack at all times. Whenever I replace some twine or other cord I use paracord. By using a sheet bend or fisherman's knot you can securly join
multiple lengths of paracord into one longer line. Paracord is like the duct tape of lines! I also keep a three foot length of paracord in my pocket for practicing knot tying and just to be handy.
Just be sure to get the true milspec grade of paracord! Much better quality than some knock-offs, and perfect for knot tying!
Climbing rope. Another handy type of line. I keep a 12 - 20 ft length in my pack all the times. This can be used for emergency rescue harness, or tied together with
lengths from other party members it can a longer line for rescue, lifting objects, etc.
Marksmanship
NRA Youth Programs.
FYI, CAP recognizes the NRA Marksmanship badges and allows them to be worn on the blues uniform, but only when earned under the
supervision of an NRA Range Safety Officer, or a military range safety officer. Often available at larger CAP events, especially Encampments.
Good example of a training facility is the
Clackamas Comm. College Public Safety Training Center. An excellent indoor range and training center.
