for Students of English as a Second Language






The English instructors who staff Writing 180, Writing Conference, are instructors of writing and literature,
and as such, are not trained to handle the needs of students who are learning to speak, read, and write English.
We encourage students of English as a Second Language to complete the courses
offered by the Program in ESL at Irvine Valley College
before they attempt reading, writing, or literature courses offered by the Department of English.
Mastery of English is essential to success in courses that focus on
critical thinking, interpretation, analysis, and composition.
