Darren Hayes, Insatiable (single)
(TV Hits Website, March 4 2002)
Let's not mince words. Let's just say
it how it is. Insatiable is, quite simply, one of the best tracks ever to come out of this
country - and its filmclip is the most expensive! Savage Garden were one of the most
successful bands ever to be produced in Australia and lead singer, Darren Hayes looks set
to continue that success as a solo artist.
When you think Darren Hayes, think George Michael. George was once part of a cheesy pop
duo that had huge U.S. success before splitting during their prime in the 80's. Darren has
had exactly the same experience. Another obvious connection; both are singer songwriters
of the highest calibre. George Michael went on to conquer the globe - and Darren will do
the same with the right support.
Darren Hayes sites influences such as U2, Madonna and Michael Jackson - but it is Jackson
who has had the most obvious influence here. Darren's crotch grabbing stage antics were
the first sign, but Insatiable takes the comparision into the studio. Along with his
vocals on other tracks from his upcoming debut Spin, Insatiable's vocals are seemingly
modelled on Michael Jackson's Dangerous (1991). Every grunt, every sigh. I'm expecting
Darren to moonwalk when he performs it live!
Just an awesome, upbeat ballad - and there'll be a second CD single full of remixes too!
