| Ex - vocalist
from Savage Garden feels that if he sang in Spanish,he would possibly insult latin public,
becuse of his lack of knowledge in this language.

Mexico city (June 3, 2002) Eventhough the large list of American artists has become wider
during the last years, with the purpose of recording in Spanish and getting closer to
latin public, Darren Hayes seems reluctant to put his name on it, confessing being not
prepared and considering it inadequate.
Ex-vocalist from Savage Garden
ensured during a press conference that he respects the idea of recording in Spanish of
some of his music mates, but he wouldnīt do that because he feels like he would insult
latin audience.
"Itīs like if I would like to
sell records in France, and the very next day I began to record in French, audience from
that country would feel it like an offense, and the same applies here, because itīs not my
language, besides, I think I would pronounce it terribly" Darren said.
However, for this australian established in San Francisco, that doesnīt mean he critizices
the effort and job that people like Shakira or Ricky Martin have done, because from his
point of view, they have prepared so much in English language.
During the presentation of his new
solo album, SPIN, Hayes contradict the fact that Savage Garden split in a violent way, and
also because of possible misunderstandings with Daniel Jones.
"Australia was the only place
where gossip was huge, beacause there is lot of information that media spreads, and of
course is false. When we went to Japan, (more than two years ago)we already had talked
about the split, and when we came to Mexico city, we knew that the group was not going to
exist anymore.". he indicated.
He also said that none of both
thought that a third album would exist for this duo that made famous songs like "I
want you and "Truly Madly Deply", because his ex-partner was not more interested
in public life and going on with this.
The artist, that is known for his
single "Insatiable" on the radio, commented that eventhough he thought that he
would be in the band for all of his life, he knew that it was not going to be possible
with Danielīs attitude. And he doesnīt want to be with Daniel on stage anymore.
Referring to his job as a solo artist, Hayes pointed out that it was really difficult to
finish it, becuase he had to agree with the process of composing alone, and without any
external opinion for the final result.
"More than competing with other
artists, Iīm looking for peopleīs acceptance. Iīm not trying to get rid of Savage
Garden, that couldnīt happen because my voice was part of the group...my voice can be
pleasant or not for you....what Iīm offering now is softer pop music, electronic, more like
me", he expressed.
"Heart Attack", "What
you like" and "Strange Relationship" are some of the songs of his first
solo album, which he made with the collaboration of Walter Afanasieff, Greg Bieck, Robert
Conley and Rick Nowels.
During the talk with the media,
Hayes said that from all the celebrities that he have met, Bono (U2 frontman), has been
the one that impacted him the most, in a possitive way, because he considers that Bono was
born to be a leader.
" He has been in the
entertainment businees during 20 years, and instead of using his ego to make him stand out
like a star, he has developed it in a possitive way, he is a great politician, he knows
how to get involved in pacific movements, he is a good musician, he doesnīt use his
talent to outshine". he pointed.
He added that when he gets down from
the stage, he is not with a celebrity posture, he keeps a sensible and friendly attitude.
