For the science fiction short story, "His Vegetable Wife" it was the best essay I wrote that corresponds with the goal of ethical issues and social responsibility. The story was the most surprising and inspiring I read from all the other stories to choose from, as well as the easiest to relate to because of my gender. Women everywhere, everyday are being abused. Even if it's only verbal abuse, we still have to endure it day in and day out because of the lack of respect men can give us. "His Vegetable Wife" was the one that had made the most reactions of others in the class and gave me the most direction and points of view to use for the essay. While it was hard to write about the story in a non-biased fashion, I could definitely relate to the child abuse attitude and analyze the story from there. No one should abuse another person, no matter what their gender. It only seems that men abuse women, but there are women who can be just as abusive to men. However, I don't think the story would have been as intense to the reader if the roles were switched. It could make the reader confused, because that's just how our society is; we know it could happen, but to this day it doesn't have the same effect on people.
