Reflection: Communication

The E-Photo Essay that was assigned had the best goal for communication in my case. It involved technology, writing, speaking, and visual literacy. The technology was needed to run and compile PowerPoint; the writing was required for reading the essay; the speaking was for others understanding the material covered; and the visual literacy was helpful for those who are visual learns. Both graphics and words helped understand the change of how Sailor Moon, an anime, was westernized. Of course, any anime could have been studied to see how it changes when showing other parts of the world, however Sailor Moon was the best choice for the points I wanted to make.

Communication is always at least partly lost when converting anime to be accustomed to other countries and cultures, specifically America. Parents are usually very tight on what their children watch, they don't want to give their children any idea that being gay is all right. In fact, they see it better that their children have no idea what it means then to introduce them to the idea of it, thereby it could negatively effect how they see homosexual couples. Most people who don't know much about anime see it as cartoon porn, which just goes to show how arrogant people can be when they don't take time to understand something they end up debating about.

It's wonderful that general anime is finally becoming part of our culture today. Perhaps those people who have closed minds about it can finally open their eyes to another culture other than our own.
