DAY 3: MON - SINGAPORE / PHNOM PENH

DAY 5: WED - ANGKOR WAT EXCURSION
Since the ousting of the Pol Pot regime, many aspects of Khmer life have revived. Your exploration of this mysterious region begins with the intricately carved Khmer ruins at Angkor Wat and surrounding sites - one of the world's most impressive ruins. Angkor Wat is the largest temple complex in the world and a marvel of art and architecture for both Hindus and Buddhists. Strolling through the massive hallways, you will find many small shrines still in use by the local people at this ancient site. B, L, D

DAY 6: THU - ANGKOR THOM EXCURSION
See Angkor Thom or "Great City," in some ways even more spectacular than colossal Angkor Wat, as it had nearly disappeared into the jungle. Picturesque Ta Phrom Baphoun remains overgrown, presenting oddly haunting and exotic scenes. Visit various ruin sites of these ancient rock skeletons - mute testimony to the once mighty Khmer civilization. B, L, D

DAY 7: FRI - SIEM RIEP / HO CHI MINH CITY

DAY 8: SAT - HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR & IRON TRIANGLE
Today you tour this former capital. Fast becoming the business center of the country, Ho Chi Minh City retains the beauty of graceful colonial French-style structures amidst modern architecture. Your tour includes the former Presidential Palace, the Historical Museum and the War Exhibit. Later, venture into the "Iron Triangle," riddled with an extensive system of tunnels inhabited during the recent war. B, L, D

DAY 9: SUN - HO CHI MINH CITY / DANANG / HOI AN
Today fly to Danang. Upon the arrival of American military forces in 1965, Danang fast became a significant U.S. air and naval base. The Cham Museum features artifacts from the Kingdom of Champa, a civilization that ruled the area from the 2nd to 14th centuries. Continue to the charming and relaxed town of Hoi An about 25 miles south. Believed to have been settled no less than 2,200 years ago, Hoi An was a thriving seaport and a base for seafaring nations seeking new sources of wealth throughout Southeast Asia. Even ancient Arab trading documents mention Hoi An as a stop along their trade routes. HOI AN HOTEL B, L, D

DAY 10: MON - HOI AN / HUE
The narrow streets of Hoi An are lined with buildings representing a mix of architectural styles - some of which are not seen anywhere else today, leaving you with the feeling that you have truly traveled back in time. Some of Hoi An's highlights include the Temples of Phuol Kien and Quang Dong, and the 16th century Japanese Covered Bridge. Following your walking tour of Hoi An, drive to the former imperial capital... Hue. En route pass China Beach - a quiet spot where the first 3500 U.S. Marines landed on March 8, 1965 and later a popular R&R resort. Drive over the inspiring 4900-foot Hai Van Pass, Vietnam's geographical and psychological boundary between north and south. The peak of the pass lies perpetually shrouded in clouds. DAY 11: TUE - HUE SIGHTSEEING
Hue's rise to prominence coincided with the rise of the Nguyen Lord who in 1802 founded the Nguyen dynasty. The newly named emperor Gia Long made Hue his capital, supplanting Hanoi as the major center of power in Vietnam. The Nguyen emperors would lose their country to French imperialists, with the last Bao Dai abdicating in 1945. Highlights include the Imperial City or Citadel, and the imperial tombs of 13 Nguyen kings and emperors. Enjoy your day exploring Hue's mystical sites. B, L, D

DAY 12: WED - HUE / HANOI
Fly to Hanoi, capital of Vietnam for nearly 1000 years. Historical emphasis on the arts and learning stipulates that buildings in Hanoi remain small, simple and in harmony with nature. This evening enjoy dinner at the renowned "Indochine Restaurant" and view the popular Water Puppet Show. Stay at the elegant HOTEL SOFITEL METROPOLE HANOI. B, L, D

DAY 13: THU - HANOI CITY TOUR
Some of the sights of the nation's capital you will see include: the lotus-shaped One Pillar Pagoda, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum - where the preserved body of "Uncle Ho" may be viewed, the remains of the Co Lao Citadel, Quan Thanh Temple, the Temple of Literature and the restored Lake of the Returned Sword. Also enjoy a walk through the Old Quarter. B, L, D

HONG KONG

DAY 14: FRI - HANOI / HONG KONG
Fly this morning to exciting Hong Kong, China's entrepot on the South China Sea. Check in on arrival and enjoy a half day Hong Kong Island tour. HARBOUR PLAZA HOTEL B, D

DAY 15: SAT - HONG KONG / HOME
Your glimpse of Indochina comes to an end as you depart for home. Take with you a better understanding of the area's fascinating heritage and its people. B
