With around 1,800 bird species, designing and organizing
comprehensive birding trips in Peru is no easy feat. Our "soft" birding programs
were conceived from the beginning to provide bird lovers with the best alternative: our
outstanding staff of Tour Leaders.
They have the necessary field
experience to know the best stops and patches of wilderness for birds at each of our
programs localities and have worked extensively assisting Amazonias foremost
ornithologists, gaining the necessary field identification experience. Although RFEs
birding trips are not designed for and will not satisfy the hard core, fanatic
birdwatchers, they are ideal for the very interested, more than casual birder with diverse
interests.
By combining two reknown destinations, Cusco and
Tambopata, the birdwatcher will have an excellent opportunity to explore some of the best
bird sites representing all of the principal ecosystems along a cross section of southern
Peru.
With a total of thirteen days of birdwatching in Cusco
and Tambopata (with the necessary stopovers in Lima), the rainforest portion of the trip
provides encounters with spectacular birds such as large eagles, six species of macaws
including the Scarlet Macaw and maybe the Blue-headed Macaw, Sunbittern, Horned Screamer,
Orinoco Goose, Razor-billed Currasow, Pale-rumped Trumpeter, Spixs and Common Piping
Guan and Curl-crested Aracari. Among the rare or endemic species easily found around TRC
are: Scarlet-hooded Barbet, White-cheeked Tody Tyrant, Black-capped Parakeet,
Rufous-fronted Antthrush, Cinammon-rumped Foliage Gleaner, Bamboo Antshrike, Manu Antbird,
and White-lined Antbird.
