DAY 1: FRI: - NORTH AMERICA / THAILAND
Depart late this evening for exotic Thailand. Cross the International Date Line en route.

THAILAND

DAY 3: SUN - ARRIVE BANGKOK
Arrive in Bangkok, the vibrant and throbbing capital of Thailand. You are welcomed and escorted to the elegant REMBRANDT HOTEL.

DAY 4: MON - BANGKOK CITY TOUR
Visit the spectacular Grand Palace this morning, home to the Thai Monarchy and the sacred Emerald Buddha. Glimpse the throne room of the present dynasty, the fierce guardian gatekeepers, and a miniature reproduction of Angkor Wat. Take an afternoon tour of the various canals or "klongs" that give Bangkok its nickname of "Venice of the East." Then tour the stupendous Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn. This evening enjoy a special Thai dinner accompanied with classical dance and music, featuring exquisite costumes and the elegant movements unique to this style of dance. B, D

DAY 5: TUE - BANGKOK / CHIANG RAI
Fly to Chiang Rai in the far north, where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. Your afternoon is at leisure. DUSIT ISLAND RESORT B, D

DAY 6: WED - GOLDEN TRIANGLE EXCURSION
The entire day is dedicated to visiting the Golden Triangle - its sights and scenes present images of a traditional way of life unknown in the western world. Board a long-tailed motorboat for a fascinating trip downriver and visit remote hilltribe villages. The area hosts seven major, once-itinerant hill tribes of Tibeto-Burmese origin, each having distinctive costumes and customs. For a long time Chiang Rai was isolated from most of Thailand, so its unique culture survives. Once infamous for opium and gold smuggling, now Burmese rubies and jade lure buyers. B, L

DAY 7: THU - CHIANG RAI / CHIANG MAI
Travel by road to Chiang Mai, Thailand's center of handicraft production and home to artisans of hilltribe artifacts. Tour this delightful ancient city with a distinctive charm, famous for its beautiful women, historic temples dating from the 1300's, and distinctive festivals. Visit the most interesting temples including Wat Doi Suthep - possibly Thailand's most beautiful temple. Your tour concludes with a visit to a handicraft factory to see the manufacturing of lacquerware, weaving of Thai silk, paper umbrella making, woodcarving, silverware and more delightful arts. This evening, feast at a Khantoke dinner with authentic traditional performances featuring regional tribes. CHIANG MAI ORCHID HOTEL B, D

DAY 8: FRI - CHIANG MAI / PHUKET
Fly from the jungles of northern Thailand to the tropics of the far south, to the magical island of Phuket. Blessed with a wide variety of magnificent beaches, hidden coves and secluded bays, Phuket is a spectacular kaleidoscope of brilliant colors. PHUKET ARCADIA HOTEL B, D

DAY 9: SAT - PHUKET
Day at leisure. Perhaps take advantage of some of the numerous watersports available, or get in some shopping. A boat excursion to James Bond Island that includes sea canoeing is a popular trip. Phuket is also known the world over for its excellent seafood. B, D

DAY 10: SUN - PHUKET / BANGKOK
After another day at leisure, fly back to Bangkok in the evening and overnight at the CENTRAL PLAZA HOTEL B, L

DAY 11: MON - BANGKOK / HOME
Depart for home today, taking with you precious memories of wonderful Thailand. B
