Fishing in Belize at Exotic Cay Beach Resort - San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize

Deep Sea Fishing
Reef Fishing
Fly Fishing
Rates

The fishing diversity that the waters of Belize offer are extraordinary. Within minutes of the resort are 3 very different forms of sport fishing: deep sea fishing for Marlin, Tuna, and Wahoo, reef fishing for Snapper, Grouper, and Jack, and fly fishing for Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon. The staff at Exotic Caye Beach Resort know and understand the needs of anglers and will place you with experienced guides, most of whom grew up here, fishing the waters off Ambergris Caye. Whether you are cruising the deep blue in a 52' tuna boat, fishing the flats in a 2 man skiff, or working the inside of the reef with some friends, you will be landing a champion's catch.

All three types of sport fishing are easily accessible to you and the season is open year round. However, different times of the year do offer greater opportunities to specifically catch larger and greater numbers of fish. Outlined below is a basic description of the fishing environments and the best times of year for that type of fishing.
Deep Sea Fishing
Deep sea fishing is a year round sport off Ambergris Caye. Just one half mile offshore, past the barrier reef, the water depths plunge quickly to well over 1000 feet. The generous food supplies of the reef and the outer atolls combined with deep water make for sport fishing at its best. Marlin is plentiful 12 months of the year. Sail fish are usually best in early spring and King Mackerel is best in late spring. The best time to catch Wahoo is during the winter months. The 52' Sea Boots will keep you in comfort while you fish the exciting waters off the coast of Belize. The Tuna or Mackerel you land will be dinner tonight back at the resort.

Reef Fishing
The barrier reef that hugs the shore along Ambergris Caye means that your ride to the fishing spots are just minutes away. The waters inside and just outside the reef are teeming with Snapper, Grouper, Jack, and Barracuda . Snapper, Jack, and Barracuda are caught in large quantities year round and the best season for Grouper is during the winter months. Our experienced guides will amaze you with their knowledge of the right baits and lures, when, how, and where to cast, and most importantly tips on how to make sure that the big one doesn't get away. Fish a full day and our guides will pull ashore on a deserted strip of beach and grill your catch for lunch over an open fire. Bring home what's left and our chef will gladly prepare a feast for the famished.

Fly Fishing
Because Belize is still largely unknown, saltwater fly fishing aficionados have the run of some of the largest tarpon flats outside of Florida, over 200 square miles. It is quite common for you to be the only angler in sight for days on end. Based on the season and current weather, our guides will skillfully place you into the most advantageous positions to both see and catch these fish.

The leeward side of Ambergris Caye is home to a system of estuaries and the corresponding flats which are home to incredible numbers of Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit. The best season for Tarpon is May through November. Bonefish and Permit are caught in the lagoons year round. You can expect bonefish up to 6 pounds, Permit ranging between 5-30 pounds, and Tarpon in the 40-80 pound range.
