After graduation from high school, I entered Nanjin Fine Arts University and was competitively selected among a group of students to study under the direction of Mr. Haisu Liu, who was known as one of the nation¡¯s best artists. During the four years I spent at the University, I studied more systematically and comprehensively about fine arts. At the same time, I developed an interest in Western arts and theories of painting, as well as the comparison between the theories of Western arts and Oriental arts.Meanwhile, I started working in the field of Interior Design and Decoration. With experience in the field, I gradually innovated my own style that embodies the spirit of both the western arts and the oriental arts. In addition, I, with the support of may others at the University, designed a tapestry that was selected to be exhibited worldwide and generated some profits.
After my graduation from the University, I extended my interests in the field by attending the Yang Zhou Art & Design Institution. As Director of Interior Design, I led my department working in many different areas, such as interior design, advertisement,, window decoration, and some significant exhibition designs. Dream of The Red House. The Dream of The Red House banquet room in Yang Zhou Hotel is another example of my work. The banquet room was not only highly appraised by Chinese authorities; it was also used as one of the scenes of well-recognized film--Dream of The Red House. My other works at Nice Garden Hotel, Jade Hotel, and Shanghai New East Lake Hotel were also widely acclaimed. One of the most important works that I have done is the huge fresco, ¡°Extol of Yang Zhou in Old Days¡± (size 20¡¯ x 50¡¯). I spent two and ahalf months to complete this project. Practice makes perfect and the more practice we get, the better our end projects will be.
Over the years, my works were exhibited occasionally and would many times receive national awards, for instance, Go Back Home(1984), Go To Yang Zhou in Blooming March (1987), and Gionghua (1989). In the same year of 1987, I was rewarded as a member of the Chinese Arts Association. The Peacock was collected by a museum in China and I was elected as a judge of the Seventh Chinese Painting Art Competition.
In 1992, I was invited to the United States. In Los Angeles and Utah, I successfully designed a number of huge frescos, such as 12 Beautiful Ladies in Jin Lin, Traveling in Spring, Beautiful Ladies with Brilliant Ornamental Hairpin, Lotus of Moondew, and Harvest Village in Southern China. They were all highly appraised.
I would now like to put emphasis on my masterpiece, a huge oval fresco, which is displayed at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. It was a great challenge for me to produce such work, especially when the fresco was so different from my other works. It resembles painting on the ceiling, somewhat of a mural. As a result of experience and many years of hard work, by numerous drafts, as well as, precise calculations and observations, the fresco took me approximately two months to finish without any specific facilities.
During the years in the United States, I not only tried to get acquainted with the potential market, but also never give up my devotion to the spirit of the fine arts. Some of my characteristic works were collected by Aspen Grove Five Arts Ltd. For example, works such as Spring, Autumn, California Sunshine, and California Sea were collected by Gallery du Bois in Aspen. Sunrise Calm, Long Beach Sunset, Spring Color, Flower of Youth, Going Home, Stacey, and Lady on the Chair were collected by Anthony L. Rhea Galleries in Cherry Creek of Denver.
I wish to devote myself to the essence of ¡°real¡± fine arts in an environment of freedom and democracy. It is my hoe to fulfill my dream here in the future.
