Chapter Fifty- HomeComing

"When are they brining Nicholas in?” Victoria asked anxiously a few minutes after she caught her place next to her parents, who was already sitting in the court house.

Nikki shook her head and glanced at Victor, who was leaning forward, whispering something in John Silva’s ear “I don’t know honey, soon, I hope”

At that moment Victor leaned back with a great, satisfied sigh and gave his daughter a kiss on the cheek, “Good morning sweetheart, don’t worry, it won’t start without your brother”

Vicki looked at Victor, a bit surprised by his cheerfulness “You sound so confident it would all go well”

Victor nodded and kissed his daughter on the cheek again said with a content smile “I am”

Nikki smiled at him, It felt good knowing he was this sure everything was going to be alright.

She still sighed “I just know I won’t be able to rest till it’s over, and Nicholas would be declared free...”

Victor shook his finger “Now enough with that worrying, the DA assured and reassured me that everything will be fine”

Nikki raised her hands in defensive gesture, smiling “Okay, Okay...”

Victor smiled “Good”

Nikki looked around and asked in a blank voice that didn’t reveal her feelings “I thought Sharon would be here”

Vicki looked at her mother and frowned “I don’t know whether you’re gonna be glad or irritated, but she’s outside, finishing her coffee before getting in”

Nikki sighed “I really don’t know if I am glad or irritated, although... I know it would mean a lot to your brother ”

Suddenly the backdoor of the courtroom opened, and Nicholas appeared, looking anxious, he gave a small, strain smile and a little wave to his family who was looking at him lovingly.

The guards led their prisoner into his seat, but before he had a chance to get there, Nikki got up from her seat and embraced him tightly.

Nick almost lost balance as his hands were still cuffed and smiled “Wow... Hey mom, let them uncuff me first”

Nikki backed away and apologized “Oh, I’m sorry honey” She pulled back and watched as the cops uncuffed him.

Nicholas grimaced and checked his wrists, finding them red and irritated, as the cuffs were too tight.

Victor asked him, his voice touched with just a hint of concern “Are you alright myboy?”

Nick smiled, wanting to reassure his family “Yea, the cuff were just too tight, that’s all”

Suddenly Nicholas was knocked back by Sharon, who ran into the room and embraced Nicholas strongly, Nicholas kissed Sharon with a passion, ignoring everyone else in the room, he mumbled into her hair “How are you baby?”

Sharon whimpered “So much better, knowing you will be out today...”

Victoria rolled her eyes at Sharon and Nicholas, she didn’t care for her either, and then glanced at Nikki, unable not to sympathize with her mother, she knew she was having a hard time letting go of Nicholas, especially now.

Her attention was turned away when Cole arrived, and she missed the little moment between her parents entirely.

Nikki stepped a step back, blinking on tears as she looked on that scene, he was getting out of prison today, so why it still felt like she was losing her little son forever?

Suddenly she felt a familiar hand resting on her shoulder, it’s fingers resting on her skin where the neckline of the blue suit she was wearing ended, softly caressing her.

Nikki knew who it was, she knew he was trying to offer her support without being too obvious

She didn’t turn around or said anything, but put her hand on his, squeezing it tightly.

Victor saw her offended look as Nicholas turned to hug Sharon, and the tears that followed, and with a small nod he gestured toward his handkerchief, offering it to her.

Nikki shook her head quickly, not wanting Nicholas to realize she was crying, or what she was crying about.

Victor gently reached out and brushed the tears away with his thumb, only his gesture made Nikki chock on her tears even more and she turned around sharply, trying to cover on it.

Victor grabbed her hand and said softly but firmly “Please Stop that, it should be a happy time for us right now, it’s not worthy of your tears and can not be changed, you know that”

Nikki looked up at Victor, knowing he was right but couldn’t help the way she was feeling, she didn’t want her son with Sharon Collins, she didn’t even know why she was feeling this way, but nevertheless, she did.

She released her hand from his grip and crossed them across her chest defensively and wiped her eyes “Well, I really want to wait till it’s official to celebrate”

Victor replied reassuringly “It will be over soon, have some faith”

Nicholas let go of Sharon who went back to her seat, he cleaned his throat nervously and set down, praying it would go well.

Vicki and Cole set down in their seat, anxious for it all to be over.

Victor set down next to Nikki and then looked at her, Nikki was forcing her eyes shut, she looked frightened and tense and when he took her hand with his, he found it cold and clammy...

He asked her quietly “Nikki, what's going on with you?”

Nikki whispered, opening her eyes wide “I think I’m going to be sick, I’m so nervous, you’re so confidant but I’m so afraid...I wasn’t before, I really wasn’t, but just... being here, it’s making me so nervous and...Ohhh...” She pressed her hand on her mouth trying to control the queasy feeling that ran in her stomach...her nerves were betraying her, she never felt so anxious in her life.

Victor asked worriedly “Do you want to step outside for a moment for fresh air?”

Nikki shook her head quickly and closed her eyes, hoping the feeling of sickness would go away..

Nikki took a few deep breaths and after a minute said, removing her hand from her mouth, swallowing hard “It’s fine, I’m fine... It’s passed....”

Victor said gently “Okay...if you’re sure...”

Nicholas turned around and said to his mother “Gee mom, you look more nervous than me...”

He looked from his mother to his father worriedly as he saw the expression on their faces “Nothing happened, right?”

Victor was quick to reassure him “No, everything is fine, your mother is just...”

Nikki cut him off “Your mother is just stressing herself out when she really needn’t be”

She smiled at him, a little embarrassed at her reaction and reached out to brush some lint from his jacket...

“Really honey, it’s nothing, I just want it to be over and being in here doesn’t agree with my stomach”

Nicholas said skeptically “Okay....” and turned back forward, fidgeting in his seat.

Nikki looked at Nicholas regretfully, she didn’t want to worry him unnecessarily.

She leaned her head back on the seat and flashed a halfhearted smile to Victor, who was still looking at her with a look filled with tenderness and concern

Victor reached out his hand to her and she took it and pressed her to her lips, not taking her eyes from him.

Victor sighed and said “Come here” And took her into his arms, Nikki with a soft whimper wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head on his shoulder.

Victoria, watching her parents with a look of unconcealed satisfaction, kicked Nicholas’s seat to get his attention, Nicholas turned around and catching his parent’s hug grinned at Vicki, who smiled back at him.

Victor and Nikki’s hug were interrupted by the Clerk calling everyone to sit down, as the hearing was about to start.....

An Hour Later...

The Judge was speaking as the Newmans listened in tense silence.

“Nicholas Newman was convicted of attempted murder and aggravated assault of Mate Clark, and we were gathered here today in order to hear new evidence in that matter.
After much consideration of the new evidence, which included reading young miss Wilson’s heart wrenching testimony, that she indeed was the one who shot Mr Clark, and not Nicholas Newman.
Hearing the testimony of her therapist about her mental condition and why Miss Wilson didn’t come forward sooner, as well as the reason for the shooting.
And as we heard from Mr. Richards that he is not about to challenge these evidence, I declare Nicholas Newman’s trial as a mistrial...”

Nicholas turned and looked at his father with shinning eyes, Victor patted him in the back and directed quietly him to go on listening"

“And As we know have a confession of the crime, In full agreement with the D.A, I declare Nicholas Christian Newman - A free man”

The rest of his word were lost on the Newman family as they heard all the needed to hear to start celebrating.

Victorious smile spread across Victor’s face, who let out a breath of relief he felt like he has been holding forever...

John Silva collapsed back on the chair with a deep sigh as Nicholas rose from his seat, and almost tripped over his bench as he turned to hug his overjoyed family...

His first hug was to his sister, who practically jumped in between her brother’s arms “Oh my god, Oh my god, Nick, I can’t believe it, I’m so happy!”

Nicholas whispered “Yea, so am I Vic”

Next Sharon race into his arms “Oh Nicholas, Nicholas... my love...” Nicholas kissed her again and again, unbelievable happy “I know baby...It’s too good to believe”

Sharon looked at him with brightly shinning eyes “Our nightmare is over, you’re coming home!”

Cole next told Nicholas, rejoicing in the family’s joy “Welcome back buddy...”

Nicholas laughed “Looks like you’re going to get used seeing my ugly face around again Cole”

Cole teased “I’m sure we can handle that”

Victor and Nikki sank into each other’s arms as soon as the judge declared Nicholas free.
With happy tears in his eyes Victor kissed her again and again, on the nose, cheek, forehead, barely stopping himself from getting carried away with his joy ...Nikki just looked at him, at loss for words, she was happy and excited beyond belief.... Victor laughed “I see you’re feeling better”

Nikki smiled tearfully at him “Oh, much...”

Nicholas wiped his tears and chuckled as he looked at them and said “If You think you can break that for a moment..”

Nikki turned away from Victor, crying and laughing to hug her son “Oh my angel....”

A smile spread on Nicholas’s face and he hugged her tightly and whispered in her ear “Hey mom...Thanks...”

Nikki laughed through her tears “Oh, whatever for baby?”

Nicholas said “Just being my mom, and being there for me...I love you”

Nikki brushed his longish hair back... and caressed his cheek “I couldn’t have asked for a better son from anyone, oh honey, I’m so happy for you, for all of us, you’re finally going to come home!”

Victor looked at his celebrating family with a smile of joy and outmost relief, Thanking god for that moment... and for giving him the power to free his son.

Looking over his mother’s shoulder, Nicholas’s locked on his father, and parting himself from his mother, stood up in front of Victor and just looked at his father for the longest moment...

There were no need of words between the two men as Victor pulled his son into a loving embrace.

Nicholas said, in tears “I will never forget that moment Dad, never...Thank you, it wouldn’t have happened without you”

Victor looked at him and said, taking a deep breath to compose himself “You are my son, this is what Fathers do, love and protect their families... No thanks needed myboy, I will never forget this day either, the day I could finally take my son home...”

A big grinned spread on Nicholas’s face “Yea, home...”

Nikki smiled “Yes, I believe the ranch would a better place to continue that celebration”

Vicki cried out “Well, lets go then!”

Nicholas laughed “I don’t need to be asked that twice, Vicki...”

And so, the Newman family left the courtroom and headed home, to continue the celebration of Nicholas’s release at the ranch.
