THE INITIAL PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST.
In 1 CORINTHIANS 14:18 Paul stated " I thank my God, I speak in tongues more than ye all."
It seems that all some of the Corinthians wanted to do was speak in tongues...If Paul spoke in tongues more than the Corinthians...He must of woke up every morning speaking in tongues, in between meals, before going to bed...He must have spoken a tremendous amout in tongues.
ACTS 2:4 The baptism of believers in the Holy Ghost is witnessed by the physical sign of speaking in with other tongues as the Spirit of God Gives them utterance.
The speaking in tongues in this instance is the same in essance as the gift of tongues, but is differant in purpose and use.

WE MUST NEVER FORGET THAT SPEAKING IN TONGUES IS NOT ONLY THE INITIAL EVIDENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT'S INDWELLING... IT IS A CONTINUAL EXPERIENCE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
You ask for what is the purpose of speaking in tongues? To assist in the Worship of God. Speaking in tongues is like a Flowing Stream, that should never dry up.
Paul was saying speaking in tongues will edify you.
1 CORINTHIANS 14:2 say's " For he that speaketh in an unkown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: For no man understandeth him; how beit in the Spirit he speaketh mysteries."
JESUS DID NOT SAY, JUST A FEW SHOULD SPEAK IN TONGUES. HE SAID "AND THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE."
TONGUES REMINDS US OF THE SPIRITS INDWELLING PRESENCE.
PRAYING IN TONGUES IS PRAYING IN THE LINE OF GOD'S PERFECT WILL.

PRAYING IN TONGUES IS A MEANS OF KEEPING FREE FROM WORLDY CONTAMINATION
PRAYING IN TONGUES ENABLES US TO PRAY FOR THE UNKNOWN
PRAYING IN TONGUES GIVE'S YOU A SPIRITUAL REFRESHING.
PRAYING IN TONGUES GIVE'S YOU THANKS PERFECTLY.
REVELATION 21:4 "FOR THE FORMER THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY." Love is eternal "God is love." Heaven will be permeated by His presence and love...Faith is necessary for salvation...JOHN 3:16 "Whosoever believeth in Him."

THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A GIFT...NOW IS THE TIME TO RECIEVE FROM THE WATER OF THE SPIRIT FREELY...REMEMBER THE GLOURIOUS TIME IN WHICH YOU WAITED ON THE LORD TO BE FILLED...DONT GIVE UP ON THE TIMES OF WAITING TO BE FILLED.
