Check the Breeder out .

Is he or she Looking after their dogs .

Is it a money thing or is he or she trying to improve the breed .

Have they had there dogs temperment tested .If not why!

I would like to see an improvement on the breed but going to shows We do see shy Rottweiler being put up . We can put any excuse we want but the evidience is there .Why breed with these dogs

Is the Rottweiler the breed for you?

Honestly ask yourself these questions you may be surprised By the answers

1 What do you know about the breed ?

2 Why have you decided on a Rottweiler ?

3 Have you any experience controlling a large , powerful dog ?

4 Have you any expierience owning and training a " guard " breed ?

5 Have you ever owned a dog before ?

6 Is everyone in your family happy about a Rottweiler joining the family ?

7 Do you intend to obedience train your puppy ?

8 Is your property fully fenced ?

9 Will you purchase a male or Female ?

10 Why

11 If purchasing a female , do you have a secure area for when she comes in season ?

12 If purchasing a male , do you realise they are larger, more powerful and harder to control than a female ?

Northern Districts Rottweiler club has an information Booklet available on our breed . The Club is also working on a Breed survey to test the temperment of Dogs before we breed with them .


Questions to ask the breeder.

1 Why is the breeder having this litter?

2 How long has the breeder been breeding Rottweilers?

3 Does the breeder belong to the breed club in his/her state?This shows a serious interest in their selected breed.

4 Does the breeder encourage prospective puppy buyers to visit and view their stock? If not.Why?

5 What is the temperament like of the sire and dam/ Both should be Stable animals.

6 Are both the sire and Dam X-rayed for Hip and elbow dysplasia and do they have satisfactory eye/mouth certificates?If not. Why? If they do, ask to see the paperwork .

7 Is the breeder aware that hip dysplasia is only detectable for evaluation by x-ray.

8How old is Dam and Sire? The dam should be no ypunger than 22months of age before breeding. The Sire Should be at least 18 months old.

9 Does the breeder offer a Guarantee in writing? If so can you read it before purchasing the puppy?

10 What does the Guarantee cover ?The guarantee should cover hereditary defects such as hip and elbow dysplasia,entropian, ectropian .

11 Does the puppy come with an information/ diet sheet, and Vaccinations?

12 will the breeder be available to help you as the puppy Grows?

13 At what age can you pick up the puppy up? Eight weeks of age is the minimum age a puppy can leave their mates according to the N.S.W Canine Council.

14 How much will the puppy cost and is a deposit required?
