*April 5 Rollover ...
*Taiwan to suffer 15% drop in GDP

Comment... The Big Day of the roll over into fiscal year 2000 For Canada and New York State appears successful...that is right now. The problem with jumping the gun and making a positive conclusion is that this is ONLY THE BEGINNING. Due to the nature of the "look ahead" calculations is that errors accumulate as time goes on. Eventually the system begins breaking down, which I believe will happen as the months progress. We will not hear of this on the news until failures become so pervasive it cannot be covered up--and you can bet your boots on that: they will cover it up.

No word on the situation in Japan, but they are silent on Y2K anyways. These roll over effects won't really begin to be noticed until after June/July. 44 U.S. States roll over then as well.

Here is the exerpts from the story from the LA TIMES:

" As it turned out, Canada, Japan and New York easily passed their first test, although they cautioned that it was a tiny victory since the passage of April 1 tested only the portion of their systems that deal with the fiscal year. In addition, there is still the possibility of problems emerging as their systems look deeper into the new fiscal year.

"It is an important date, but Jan. 1 is still the real test," said Gary Davis, year 2000 project manager for New York. "We've been working on this since April 1996, so having this confirmation is still gratifying." ...." "We haven't heard anything today, but I'm not that surprised since we really have to wait a while for some transactions to occur. Most of the computers are still working in the last fiscal year." ....

Taiwan to suffer 15% drop in GDP:

Story: www.newsbytes.com

Comment: A drop of 15%!?...Can you say depression?

"". . . Lee Nien-tsu, a partner of Lee and Li Attorneys-at-Law, stated at a Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association seminar that Taiwan should be prepared to face a possible economic loss of US$3billion dollars. This represents a 15 percent decrease in the gross domestic product and shutdowns of more than 10 percent of the island's enterprises.

Lee stated that 33 percent of local firms will be effected by the Y2K bug. Lee based his predictions on a Data Systems Consulting Co., Ltd. survey that indicates that presently 32.9 percent of local companies are still evaluating the problem, 29.5 percent recognize the problem but have not carried out any actions to counteract the bug, and ten percent of local firms are unaware of the Y2K bug. ....

FAA lies and lie some more...

[comment]

This is a good peice from E.L. Core ( http://y2ktimebomb.com/Washington/Misc/lcore9914.htm ) that cuts through the lies so often told by government agencies. the reason they don't tell the truth is because there is punishment lying! They can say whatever they want and the public will believe whatever optimistic drivel they hand out. And they wonder whay nobody trusts government anymore!

Here are three news reports about the FAA's Y2K project.

September 30, 1998: FAA Ninety-Nine Percent Complete
"Federal Aviation Administration expects to have about 99 percent of its computer systems renovated to deal with the Year 2000 computer problem by Wednesday (September 30, 1998). Testing to make sure all systems are working properly already has begun, administrator Jane Garvey told a joint meeting of two House committees Tuesday" (Fox News, an AP story by Cassandra Burrell, September 29, 1998).

December 14, 1998: FAA Ninety-Five Percent Complete
"John Koskinen, chairman of President Clinton's Year 2000 commission, aims to show his confidence in the Federal Aviation Administration's year 2000 readiness...While Koskinen admits that he doubts all computer systems will be fixed in time, he's certain that predictions of mass chaos are exaggerated, his spokesman says, adding that 95% of the FAA's computer systems are already Y2K compliant" (InformationWeek, a brief article by Marianne Kolbasuk McGee, December 14, 1998).

March 31, 1999: FAA Sixty-Five Percent Complete
"More than a third of Federal Aviation Administration computers will not meet the March 31 deadline for government-wide Year 2000 compliance set by the Clinton Administration, FAA officials said today.

"Although all FAA computer systems requiring Y2K repairs have been renovated and are in the process of being tested, aviation officials conceded the agency was about seven months late in starting its attack. Consequently, it will fall 35 percent short of the March deadline established for all government agencies...

"On March 31 the FAA will have just 65 percent of the agency's computers tested and implemented...." (CNET News, article by Eric Luening, March 5, 1999).
