Organicism

This is an outline of the concept of "organicism"...meaning, conceiving of society AS IF it were a physical body. This analogy is a fundamental characteristic of Systems Theory (in numerous disciplines) and Structural Functionalism in Sociology, in particular. The conclusions about society which follow from these premises (and the policies used within it) are detailed here. I believe that the uncritical use of this analogy leads to many analytical and practical problems...and should be largely eliminated from use in sociological theorizing.

For printability, I've divided the outline into two parts (jpg images).
