Legends and
myths are intertwined in the annals of scripture
and are complex phenomenons dealing with the
religious and mystic. Bearing this in mind, allow
me to offer you the following scenario.

Legend has it that in Greek mythology there were
lesser gods possessed of special powers and
gifts. ONE FINE DAY, the GOD OF ALL THE HEAVENS
AND EARTH, gathered these lesser gods before Him
and requested that they combine their talents to
create a mortal man to send to mankind with all
the attributes they deemed important. Each god
came forth and together they decided what each of
them would bestow on this man.
One of the most handsome and god of the sun and a
patron of the arts, APOLLO, sculpted him a
wondrous face, noble of brow with arched
eyebrows, large luminous dark eyes surrounded by
long lashes, a strong nose, a mobile mouth and a
proud chin.
APHRODITE, goddess of beauty and love, gave him
the charisma to attract all persons to him.
HERCULES. not to be outdone, since he had great
accomplishments in strength, gave him a tall,
firm and strong body which would help him through
life's pursuits and gain him admiration.
The goddess of wisdom, ATHENA, bestowed upon him
great intelligence and the power to use it
wisely.
POSEIDON, god of all the oceans, declared,
"I shall give him a love of the seas and the
courage to sail thereon fearlessly."
ARTEMIS, twin to Apollo and goddess of the moon
and stars, gave him courage to seek his destiny.
Slowly, each god came and gave to this mortal
that which they believed to be important.
NARCISSUS, coming upon this work of art, soon
became consumed with jealousy and voiced his
objections. "He is too perfect....too
beautiful....I shall make him UNSIGHTED so that
he may never look upon his reflection and see how
handsome he is." So in saying this, he ran
off to view his own face.
The lesser gods murmured together about what
NARCISSUS had done. "Then we,"
interjected the GRACES and the MUSES, goddesses
of music and dance, "shall give him a love
of music and a pure voice, as beautiful as the
angels singing and as lyrical as the lyres and
harps, so all who hear him shall be entranced by
the melodies he sings."
"And I," added ATLAS, "shall give
him broad and strong shoulders to bear the
obstacles which might come his way."
Then, the LORD OF ALL THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH,
looked upon the handiwork of the lesser gods and
pronounced it good. "All that you have given
him is good, but I shall give him that which is
the MOST IMPORTANT. I SHALL GIVE HIM A SOUL so
that he shall be caring and compassionate of
others and that he shall LOVE AND BE LOVED"
and so saying, he sent him to earth.
As they watched him leave, Artemis softly asked,
"What shall they call him on earth?"
And, on earth, they called him ANDREA.
