My Great-Grandma Went to Heaven Today
My great-grandma went to heaven today,
I cried a little and hugged my mom too.
I remember when we would go to her house,
And eat cookie and ice cream on Sunday's after church
And their little dog was fun to play with.
I missed school because of grandmas funeral
which is good, but I wish I missed to for some other reason.
I got to see her, before they put her in the ground.
She looked peaceful and still, nothing like she was before,
Always talking and telling us stories of my grandpa when he was little.
I stepped away, not knowing what I should think.
Id never seen a dead person before, since movies dont count.
I went outside and saw my mom and dad there.
My mom said "Are you okay, honey?" and my dad with a look of concern
I just looked at them and started to cry.
How was I supposed to handle this? Im only 10 years old...
It's been ten years since someone in my family has passed
I guess its been a while since Ive had to think of death
I still wonder how Ill feel and how Ill handle it
In all sincerity, I hope I cry and have my mother or wife to hold on to.
Knowing that there was someone I could touch mith my arms,
When I was scared that one day I would be in great-grandma's shoes.
