8th Annual Gathering of Fools Notes : April 17th, 2005

Special Guest Journal Writer Benjamin de Risio here welcoming you all to the Notes from The 7th Annual Gathering of Fools.  It was a HUGE success!! Then we all got drunk… woohoo!  Thanks to all who participated, contributed their ideas and volunteered their efforts.  This is looking to be one of our best Event seasons yet.  Some highlights from the meeting.

Announcements

Debbie was granted the title of Ambassador for the Clan Risio due to her excellent energy, networking, and schmoozing skills.

House of Fools business: Benjamin raised to Jester status to stand in for Annie as Kate’s Partner in Planning for this Event season, due to the recent birth of Annie’s second daughter, Daisy, who joins older sister Lily in the Merschbrock family.

House of Alchemy name change (because some bloody wankers selling pool cues in England have the same name already):  now to be known as The Order of Iberius in honor of the house’s founder Deacon Luther Iberius.

Council of Households is now 9 instead of 10 as the NT Pirates have disbanded.

Spartikus, despite being the longest running household in the Clan, is changing it’s name to something that Glyndon can register. Henceforth, Spartikus is now DarkVale

Event season

The two main Events we will be attending as a Clan are The Gathering May 27-30 and Gypsy Days & SeaDog Nights July 21-25.  There may be other Events that some members will be attending and updates should be posted to the HoF and Clan Risio newsgroup with details as they develop.

Camping Arrangements

We have decided to camp as Clan Risio with each household separate yet all of us grouped together and butted up against one another.  As Glyndon so aptly put it, “it will be more like a daisy chain instead of a cluster fuck.”  This should allow individual households to maintain their autonomy and enforce their entry rules as they see fit while still bringing us together in one central location.

We need to know who will or will not be attending so contact Kate or Benjamin soon to confirm.  We also need to know how many people will be with each household, how many tents will need to be placed and the size of individual tents.  The good news is there will not be a set site-cap for The Gathering or Gypsy, but it makes it hard for us to properly plan if people don’t bother to say if they are coming.

Period Menu

Kate will be cooking a large period feast for us all weekend at The Gathering IF WE GET HER THE MONEY NOW! Deadline for meal fee is May 15th. Should only be $20 - $25 per person to be fed for the entire weekend.  Call or contact Kate ASAP to sign up for this meal plan so she can begin to purchase supplies.  If you do not pay up front do not expect to eat Kate’s delicious food … or if there just so happen to be table scraps you may beg real pretty on all fours and prepare to be our Kitchen Bitch mwahahahaha!

Kate has offered to have a Coleman camp stove available for those who fail to pay or who prefer to cook their own food.  Please bring propane to cook your food or to donate to Kate for using hers.  As usual if you cook it, you clean it.  Leave the communal stove in good condition for the next cook please. Kate is hoping that Nathan will be attending and bringing his big-ass stove from previous events, but the same rules would apply. \

Transportation

Debbie has offered to secure the rental of a large 12 person van to transport people and gear to The Gathering this year.  She has expressed her willingness to make multiple trips both on Thursday ad Friday for this event.  If you will need a ride to the event for yourself and your gear be sure to contact Debbie and let her know ASAP.

The vehicle will cost roughly $60 a day to operate and there are already at least half a dozen people interested in sharing this cost.  This will be significantly cheaper than trying to drive your own car so even if you own a vehicle and you would rather car-pool be sure to let Debbie know.  Also this could be ideal for people who have a lot of gear and a very small car.  There has also been talk of renting a U-Haul trailer to town behind the van so don’t worry about available storage space.

Kitchen / Shade Tent

We have already collected 1/3 of the money needed to buy a Costco carport-pavilion as a kitchen or shade tent.  It is easy to set up (5mins with two people helping) and makes a great place to get out of the heat at Events with few trees, or a great place to get out of the rain!  The total cost of the carport will be $165.  We only need $10 donations from 10 more people and Benjamin will go buy one.  Contact Benjamin with donations (any amount helps).

Fun and Games at The Gathering

There have been a LOT of great ideas for specific activities we can sponsor or participate in at Events this season.  In the works are plans for Raids, Reverse Raids, Sacking Burning and Pillaging, Kidnappings, and gift-giving (details withheld in case there be spies who have stumbled across this Event Journal).  Talk to Debbie, Benjamin, or Kate if you want to know more or get in on the planning.

Fun and Games at Gypsy

First off we have The 2nd Annual Bawdy Bardic to be run at Gypsy this year, cohosted again by House DarkVale (Spartikus) and House of Fools.  Debbie is working with Captain Zorgon (autocrat of Gypsy) and helping to plan and run the slave Auction.  We will need some volunteers before the Auction to help with recruiting and during the auction to help with the auction itself and such things as collecting the payments.  Also at this Event, Zorgon has asked for some Clan Risio people to run boffer games.  So far Darius and Isaac have expressed some interest but we will need a few more people involved to make it more fun and to help them pull it off.

Damage Control

Without going into too many gory details it can be simply said that Clan Risio has attracted our fair share of drama.  A good point was made that this is not usually even people within our Houses but others who somehow got mistaken for belonging with us.  A general consensus was reached that there should be an effort to resolve things first on the personal level, then if that doesn’t work to get the Heads of House involved to clear up the mess.  In all matters of disputes, disagreements or otherwise bad-blood between Clan Risio and any other House or Clan the Heads of House should be brought in immediately to straighten things out, and preserve both the peace and our good name.

Remember in the SCA there is only one real rule: Don’t be a jerk… and have fun!

What is the FPP?

At the very end of the meeting I made the first public announcement about The Fool’s Paradise Project.  The end goal is to run Events of our own, turn a profit and buy land we can develop with permanent showers, bathrooms, buildings, grand meeting halls, merchants row… an entire village built on site with places for the core Event staff to live and run Events year round.  If you are interested in making this dream a reality then the time to get involved is NOW!

We are beginning to volunteer at Events this year in order to build up experience with staffing events.  The short term goal is to run our own Event next year.  We have a site lined up and we have the help of an established autocrat to pull it off right.  All we need is warm bodies to make it happen.  Contact Benjamin for details and to be added to the FPP yahoo group.

After the meeting, we enjoyed Spankings served by Katherine Wells, Mistress Deb provided Dragon’s Piss (many thanks to the Moca Sozinhia), a
nd Tim and Rebecca brought Quick Fucks. Many revelers joined us, there was singing, and the photos are up at
