Katherine's Event Journal

May 21st, 2004: omg...A WEEK TO GO! I'm still working out transportation issues...the van that I bought so cheap proved it's worth: the motor mounts were worn and I took a corner too sharp and the engine slid, screwing up the transmission linkage. I've been told that it's not terribly difficult to fix, like I'd know, but I have decided to deal with it after Egil's and seek other options at this time. I unfortunately do not get paid until Friday of the event, but I *think* I have enough cash right now to get by until then. Especially thanks to the kindnesses of friends who are understanding about my finance issues. I still have to work out cigarette purchasing (which may have to wait until Friday along with food and booze-what time do liquor stores open in CG?), poles to tie the sheetwalls to (not enough trees to do the job), and another table for the kitchen. My little Coleman camp table has seen better days, I fear. Tomorrow is the last sewing party, hopefully we'll get Kayla's garb made, I think mine will have to wait till next event. Tomorrow is also the last egils-details-meeting (merged w/ the sewing party). Dunno if anyone will show up, but I'll be here, I have a lot of filing, giving things names. And such. As for any announcements, I do have one: I would like everyone camping with Clan Risio to bring at least one container of tiki fuel to contribute. I will be bringing over 20 tikis and don't want to get stuck filling them all weekend by myself. We all benefit from having tikis in camp, so please contribute if you are able. Ok, I guess that's it for me tonight. Till next time,

Foolishly Yours,
~Katherine Wells de Risio~

May 13th, 2004: Boy I suck at updates. Never fear, the lack of updates is not intended to imply that nothing has been getting done. Let's see....since the Gathering of Fools...there has been one failed Sewing Party (we have sewing party meetings scheduled for the next two Saturdays, FYI...at Grave Manor, of course...), two brainstorming/shopping sessions with Glyndon of Spartikus, one brainstorming/songwriting session with Ben the Bard and Dot, and lots and lots of organizing and webupdating, with the exception of this page, till now. You can see who all is signed up for various things at https://www.angelfire.com/or3/clanrisio/egils2004lists.html . If you are camping with us at Egil's, PLEASE read this page. Also, a few important notes for those of you that didn't make it to the Gathering of Fools Meeting and that I haven't managed to talk to yet: In common areas visible to the public, beverages in period containers only in camp from Friday night through Sunday night. On Friday prior to nightfall, and Monday after sunrise, the rule is no longer in effect. Exception will be made for tablero games. This is part of our effort torwards a more period encampment. Jeremiah and Kevin from Lunasin will be directing camp setup on Friday of Egil's, as I will be attending to my land steward duties. Please respect them as you would me (I hope). I have bought some satin ribbon if anyone wants some to hang their token on. If you have not taken the camping class, and have not yet signed the Clan Risio Personal Commitment to Camping Safety, please get ahold of me. I will have the paperwork onsite, too, if you can't meet with me prior to the event. Still hoping for donations to the Clan Risio Gold Key (aka the Loaner Garb Tote). If you can't get your contributions to me prior to the event, bring them with you. I would like to appoint someone in charge of the LGT for the event, please let me know if you are interested. Your duties would be simply to keep track of who borrowed what and make sure it all returns to the tote before or during pack up on Monday. Regarding meals, we still need a sponsor for the Sunday late dinner. The time frame for meals is this: Ideally, early breakfast will be between 7am and 9am, late breakfast between 9am and 11am, lunch between 12noon and 2pm, early dinner between 4pm and 6pm, and late dinner between 7pm and 9pm.I'm still in the process of securing gear transportation, everyone cross your fingers, send good vibes, whatever, that I get my insurance settlement long enough before Egils that I can buy a van! :) Since no one signed up for picking up trash in camp, EVERYONE is signed up, which is really how it should be, honestly. We have long prided ourselves on leaving the cleanest encampment behind at the end of events, and we'd like to keep it that way. Sorry this is so disjointed, just putting stuff down as I think of it. But I have to go now, work tomorrow yippeeyay.

Foolishly Yours,
Katherine Wells de Risio

April 18th, 2004: So the Gathering of Fools seemed like a success, for the most part, in spite of several people being unable to attend. I think we had about half of the people that are planning to camp with us at the meeting. My meeting notes can be found at https://www.angelfire.com/or/houseoffools/GatheringNotes2004.html Now I'm off to dreamland, haveto get up early for work tomorrow.

Foolishly Yours,
Katherine Wells de Risio

March 29, 2004: Just got back from a weekend at the site, and I have to say, I really think this Egil's is going to shape up to be an awesome event. Clan Risio will be sharing MacPhereson Island (the center of Principality Loop) with (obviously) the MacPhersons, and Orc's Belly Bar. I have been asked by Master of Lands Lord Braydon to be a land steward again this year, which I agreed to do. In other news, Drover Home has dissolved, most of it's members absorbed by other households, including Clan Risio. Spartikus is still part of Clan Risio, but will be camping seperately, in the tree cover, as will anyone in the clan who are bringing smalls. However, efforts will be made to secure smalls-safe camping space for them, near-but-away-from the main encampment. Shelly and Ty will be going with Dave and Tif to a mundane camping trip Egil's weekend, so won't be joining us. I am still waiting to hear from Wolves Den, although I know Tom won't be attending due to family obligations. Brother Sam, like Dave and Tif, will be going on a mundane family camping trip Egils weekend and will not be joining us. I updated the Egils Planning Page on the House of Fools website, be sure to check it out. The next full weekend I can go to work party in May 8th and 9th (and my mom doesn't know it yet, but I plan to take her with me to go see her youngest for Mothers Day :) ), but I am hoping to pull a couple after-work day trip runs between now and then. ALSO between now and then, remember, is the Gathering Of Fools/Clan Risio Meeting on April 17th. The meeting part should run 4pm-7pm, and the party part will be 7pm till we all fall down. I would like to ask that NO ONE PARTAKE OF ALCOHOL DURING OR BEFORE THE MEETING! There will be plenty of time for that afterwards. Also, please come dressed in, or at least bring, garb for photos. Annie will be doing photographs/portraits for websites, and may also be commissioned for private portraitures as well. Also, potluck contributions are most welcome and appreciated. I guess that's it for me for now, please keep checking back for updated information!

Foolishly Yours,
Katherine Wells de Risio

March 9, 2004: So far *no one* has gotten back to me with a head count and tent dimensions. I cannot stress how important this is to us securing a decent camp spot. Also, we need to get busting ass on getting our 200 hours in. Due to my work schedule and upcoming hand surgery, I can't go to work party until March 27th. However, I expect to see lots of bodies out there that weekend as I will be recovering from surgery and pretty much have to just supervise and coordinate. (can't do that if there isn't anyone to supervise and coordinate :) ). For Portland folk, Domanitrix Debbie can fit 7 in her van, and she will just be going down Saturday morning and coming back Saturday night. I will be going down Friday afternoon and returning Sunday afternoon/evening. As far as I know, I only have me and Kayla so far, so room for 2 more, 3 if they're skinny. :) I will only be transporting people for the purposes of work party, though. If you want to just go down and hang out and visit, you'll have to find your own ride. Crap, I hope I can drive by then. (right hand surgery-stick shift car) Bah. Ok, I might need to find a driver for my car, or ride with someone else. I really want to go both days though.
If people can go to work parties other than the one I'm going to, PLEASE DO!!! And remember to sign in under "Clan Risio" so we get the credit for the hours. If we don't get the 200 hours in, we're pretty much screwed. Let's make this an Egil's to remember! (In a good way!)
In other news, I need to figure out what we're doing as far as meals and other such things, as in, is everyone in the Clan going in together, or is everyone going to stick to their own group? Remember folks, this is an experiment. If it doesn't work out, we can go back to how we were. I would really like to see us functioning as one unit at least for this event, to see how things go.
Finally, sewing parties are scheduled at Grave Manor on March 20th, April 25th, May 16th, and May 22nd. We might also do one Sunday April 18th, the day after Gathering of Fools/Clan Risio Meeting. I also plan to schedule one on a weekday sometime soon so that Glyndon can attend. :) Glyndon, name a day and we'll make it happen. :)
Time passes us swiftly, folks, let's not let it slip away!
Input, please?

Thank you,
~Katherine Wells~

March 6, 2004: Just a quick update with some info from the Egils website.

Greetings all from your friendly neighborhood Egil's XXX work party coordinators. The weekend of Feb 28th we are starting overnight camping at work parties. For those of you who have a long drive or just want to camp out and get an early start on Sunday. Also we are starting a fighter practice on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm for all the heavy and rapier fighters. So come and kill more then just blackberries. Hope to see you all soon. Viscount Sir Durin Egils XXX Work party Coordinator Team

SO for those of you that can go, GO!! We need to get those work hours in!!! We have 55-60 people in Clan Risio, we have no excuse to not get them done! Ok, I have to go back to the Pisces Party now. Thank you.
Until next time,
Foolishly Yours,
~Katherine Wells~

March 3, 2004: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: House of Fools, Spartikus, NT Pirates, House Lunasin, House of Cards, Wolves Den, House of the Crescent Moon, and (possibly-I haven't talked to Bro Sam yet) Drover Home, are now known as CLAN RISIO. If you are in one of those groups, or rather, if you are now a member of Clan Risio and would like to/can do work parties, PLEASE SIGN IN UNDER CLAN RISIO when you get there. (There's a spot to say what group you're with). We need to get our 200 hours in so that we can have a reserved camping area. We are still part of the Council of Households, along with House Nightshade, House of Heresy, and House of Alchemy, but Clan Risio will be functioning as one household. As for me, the only weekend I have been able to secure off from work (Other than Gathering of Fools weekend April 17th, which by the way will now include all of Clan Risio-not that it didn't before, but it's more important now for others than Fools to be there) is March 27-28, and I plan to go to work party. Debbie says she can fit 7 people in her van and plans to go down then too, so if you live in Portland and want to go but have no transpo, email me. I also need to compile a list of all Clan Risio members attending Egils and the dimensions of their tents. So if possible, email me that too, asap, so I can get the info to the Master of Lands. Ok, that's all I have for now. Hope to hear from people soon.
Until next time,
Foolishly Yours,
~Katherine Wells~

February 19, 2004: Yeah, yeah, I suck at keeping my websites updated, I'm sorry. Just means this entry will be extra long. :) Ok, so where to begin? How about has everyone sent in their prereg yet? I plan to send out mine, my husband and my daughter's this week, and I want to remind everyone that there will be NO GATE ADMISSIONS. This year's Egil's is PREREG ONLY. If you wanna go, you gotta prereg. As far as I know work parties are still being held every weekend, and everyone needs to attend the "The Camping courtesy and safety class", which will be offered on site the following dates.
Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28
March 6, 13, 20, 27
Although, the Master of Lands told me the teacher would be willing to make a trip up to Portland if we got a large enough group to attend the class. In Council news, we are merging into one group, minus House Nightshade (although they will still be affiliated with us) and *I think*, House of Heresy, who wants to do their own thing. We have yet to come up with a clan name, although some ideas have been tossed around, the plan is for all the house heads (well, now subgroup representatives, I guess) to take the list of ideas, confer with their part of the group, and cast a vote for those that they represent. As Glyndon put it, kind of like electoral voting. Once that is decided, we will begin working towards our 200 hour work party camping requirement. (ie, hopefully DAMN SOON!) I'm still calling our April meeting the Gathering of Fools, though, because it's the 6th annual, so hey, it would muck things up to change it now. But all clan members are invited. I also plan to work with Ben (although he doesn't know it yet.. ;) ) to write a Clan Song, hopefully in time for Egil's. Also, my daughter and I (she's turning into a right handy little helper-person! ;) Ok, not so little, she's 16, but you know what I mean) were talking about having a couple sewing parties here at Grave Manor before the Gathering of Fools (and probably one or two after, as well). Several people have mentioned to me that they need to make new garb. Again, any clan member so inclined is welcome to join us. I will let everyone know when a date has been decided, but I'm thinking of sticking to what we've done in the past, which is a Saturday or Sunday afternoon (after I get off work, so I don't have to request a day off). Also, I would like to put out a call to all reaches of the Clan for loaner garb they'd like to donate to a clan pot, so to speak, stuff they don't wear anymore, doesn't fit, preferably that doesn't need more than minor repairs to be servicable. We periodically have newcomers who need garb, and wouldn't it be neat to have our own little Gold Key? :) Finally, I would love to update this website more, but unfortunately, I'm out of room. I don't have a checking account or a credit card with available credit so that I can upgrade my Angelfire account (which would provide me more room, for about $4.95/mo.), and I'd really hate to move it from where it is. I tried that once, and it was bad. I like Angelfire's webpage editing. And I'm getting older and more resistant to change. >P Anyway, if there's anyone that could help me out with that, that'd be nifty, most gracious, and would earn my eternal gratitude. I also have rolls of film dating back to Gathering of Fools 2003 that I haven't been able to afford to develop, and I need to get a new flatbed scanner for scanning pictures. I'm hoping that since that's all I want it for, I can find a smaller one for cheap. Or I could be horribly naive, I don't know. Crap, I just realized, if we're all merging into one clan, we also need to come up with some sort of flag or device of some kind to mark ourselves with, and then said devices need to be physically made for the event. So heopfully we decide soon! At any rate, I told you this would be extra-long.. ;) But I'm done now, and look forward to feedback on the topics I have presented here.
Until next time,
Foolishly Yours,
~Katherine Wells~

January 21, 2004: Ok ,maybe I should have waited until later in the day to post my journal yesterday. New info involves mostly information available on the Egil's website, but I will post the work party schedule here, first one is this Saturday, and large households requiring a specific reserved spot are required to fulfill 200 manhours work party time and attend a 1/2 hour camping class. Work party schedule is (with more dates to be added later) as follows:
Work Party Information
Current work party dates:
10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Jan. 24, 25
Jan. 31, Feb. 1
Feb. 7, 8
Feb. 14, 15
Feb. 21, 22
Feb. 28, 29
Hope to see you all there!

So, I can't make it to any of those, unfortunately, but I would like to encourage as many people as possible to go and start gettng those 200 manhours amassed for us. The only one I have been able to request off from work so far is March 27-28. The Master of Lands has requested that each house in the Council send at least one rep to the first work party. I need a volunteer from the Fools. Email me and let me know if you can go. Ok, that's it for now. More soon. Check the Yahoo groups for updates too.
Till next time,
Foolishly Yours,
Katherine Wells

January 20, 2004:Ok, so I'm thinking, Egil's is a yeah. And that I really want to get started on planning for it...I just don't know where to start. One thing, though, is to have a Council meeting of sorts. My birthday is Feb 13th, so we could have a meeting then. I've emailed the lists, but spread the word, k? :) I printed prereg forms today. I will make copies and have them available at the party for those that do not have the ability to d'l and print them. I guess that's it for now. More when I have more info to share.
Till next time,
Foolishly Yours,
Katherine Wells

January 6, 2004: Well, the 2004 Egil's Website is up. Somehow I don't feel all fired up about Egil's this year. Something to do with the nightmare of last Egil's, I think. It burned me out. For the whole rest if the season, and even into now. I don't want that to be the case, but I'm having a hard time getting excited about it. Someone help! Maybe updating the website will get the SCAdian motor in me revving...We'll see.
Till next time,
Foolishly Yours,
Katherine Wells
