In the New Testament, Jesus told his 3 closest Apostles to "watch and pray" that night before His crucifixion. Now that can mean watching ever after His resurrection for signs of the final return with His armies of heaven, and praying to keep ready. So we may see something that portends subsequent events i.e. St.Rita's nursing home in New Orleans where senior citizens were left to drown from hurricane Katrina. Now we learn that a total of 14 homes and 6 hospitals there are facing investigation for similar neglect of their elderly residents and patients during the double disasters of Katrina and Rita. Also, we recall that bus load of senior citizens who made it up I-45 from Houston in the rush to evacuate, then had their oxygen tanks catch fire just before getting to Dallas. A dozen or so died from the flames aboard. Then that boat on Lake George in NY was overturned with some 50 older passengers on it and only 27 of them being rescued. Thus St.Rita signaled a series of sad endings for ones like us in our later years, portending how Christ will soon gather up all His own. Monday's solar eclipse also came just before the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanna. The latter started at sundown Mon. and Islam's holy month, Ramadan, began just hours later Tues. morning. I've never see any point in the conjunction of planets above, but often do in events here below. This one causes me recall that Judaism and Islam both look to Abram/Abraham as their common ancestor: the Jews through Isaac and Jacob, but the Muslims via Ishmael. Ishmael was born some 13 or more years ahead Abraham's miracle son, Isaac. Hagar, the mother of Ishmael, was an Egyptian rather than a Hebrew. So Islam's a Gentile (Arab) religion as much as Judaism is a Hebrew one. I see in Abraham, Isaac and Jacob the type of our Christly GOD (Father, Son and Holy Spirit); though Judaism sees only the Father/Spirit and Islam only Allah (who is not a Father, but "the God"). I'm sure the name is taken from "THE God of Abraham." Muslims built their main "temple" (the cubicle seen earlier among Arab tribes) down at Mecca near Mt.Arafat the way Jews had built theirs in Jerusalem at Mt.Zion centuries earlier. It's called the Kaaba from Arabic for "cube," as that black box we'll see on TV (said to contain the black stone of promise Gabriel first gave to their Prophet) as thousands of pilgrims arrive there late this month. They believe that Abraham and Ismael came down and built it as the original mosque, centuries later where Muhammed was born. His tomb is at Median where he fled back to the coast for his life. He's believed to have heard the angel Gabriel giving him "recitations" while hid in a cove, that were recorded in their Quran (recite). And though Jesus is one of their prophets, Muhammed gave THE final word to them from Allah, they think.

Here in PV the Arts Council has our main event on Oct.15, a grand opening of "The Action Figure and Toy Museum." Maybe we can become like a Mecca to artists. Things seem to be pointing in that direction. We can all make an art of our daily tasks. Make them art from the heart. My wife Niece is remodelling another place over at 103 N.Cherry, very near to the depot. As I've said before, her name is "'Nice" with an E (for "extra") right in the middle, or "Extra Nice." It describes the artist that she is when it comes to homes. I get to enjoy so much of her handiwork right here in the Pinkhouse.

It's so much easier for me to compose right here on the web page already instead of the "write" space where there's a spell checker. I won't even submit this one to the Democrat, but just leave it here for whoever. So my own checking will have to do. Some times the other feels like audience pressure, being sure not to get into something ugly in the paper. But here I have freedom because I pay for this space instead of being a guest. Yet I've come to see that the most real audience is that ONE who sees and knows our thoughts, and perhaps some of His myriad of angels. In fact that's true not just of writing or conversation, but even thinking. Our so called American "right to privacy" that the Constitution is presumed to protect (though it's nowhere stated) has to be limited to this physical universe. There's no law to guard our minds and hearts from corruption by the evil one, but only that precious blood of Jesus which sanctifies (makes clean and set apart). I like the way Paul lists those attribues of a Godly mind Ph.4:8 "Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure...meditate on these things." Wish there was a tune to sing that verse. Or in his letter to Titus 1:15, "To the pure, all things are pure," too short to sing. This last text just must be the perfection of heaven or "made complete in love." That great Danish philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard, entitled one of his books "Purity of Heart is to Will One Thing." I never read it, but I'm guessing it's about agape, that divine direction that goes clear beyond self interest. All our earthly devotion, whether eros or philia, are tainted with "what's in it for me." I'm not saying that's completely wrong, but just not enough for heaven; maybe "carnal" is the word, which means fallen as man's body is. So the first fruit of GOD's Holy Spirit is agape (Gal5:22), not philea nor eros. In fact eros isn't even used in the New Testament (though philea and eros are other Greek words for "love" in the N.T.). Yet I've a theory that eros (sexual attraction) is changed supernaturally into agape, as seen in the life of Christ Jesus., Who lived without sex. Nor is any of the fallen nature of Adam's race is seen in Him who was Fathered by the Holy Spirit of GOD. The words from Is.9:6 came to me this morning to show me: "For unto us a Child is born (baby Jesus), Unto us a Son (of Three-in-One) is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor (holy spirit), Mighty God (Triune), Everlasting Father (Maker of heaven and earth), Prince of Peace (our Lord Jesus). Of the increase of His government there will be no end (final return)." Oh the joyful anticipation of His glorious appearing one of these days!! Makes me seem to see GOD and all His holy angels shining through history even now in anticipation. When I sing in the nursing homes, I love to use songs that express that Blessed Hope, also mentioned in Titus. And I tell of a current happening too. "Second Coming" isn't the Bible name for it, but Blessed Hope, as in Ti.2:13.
I'm a Thee-a-logian rather than theologian, since prayer is most central for me. It's Sunday morning and I've just read Gal.4 about Ishmael and Isaac, with the former being Sinai in the desert and the latter Jerusalem. Yet "the Jerusalem above" is the real place we seek. So I see Ishmael as symbolic of both earthly sites with the heirs of Isaac looking forward toward Revelation 21, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the holy city New Jerusalem, coming down from GOD out of heaven." That's the true focus of our faith, even beyond the issue of Jew vs Arab. Without Christ, both remain unregenerate humanity. And thus their wars are of the flesh, not the struggle in which we are engaged. Yet democracy is seen alive in Israel so that we are drawn to their side. The Bush policy of defending it everywhere in order to save our own has strong appeal even though the Kingdom of GOD is more than democracy. It does open the opportunity for the message of Christ Jesus to be offered, which isn't allowed under tyrannical systems. And the Quran certainly points toward war lord rulers. Muhammed himself even set the example. So those of us looking for the Kingdom of Christ surely can't condone Islamic states. I recall my close friend, the late Rev.Robert Hill, who went to Saudi Abrabia as a minister back in the seventies. When I asked him about winning souls, he said "not of the Muslims. You'd be deported before sundown by their law." That was way back when we knew so little about Islam. Now I see it as the legacy of Hagar. The LORD promised a great nation would be created (even global Islamic terrorism?). So the struggle between Jacob and Esau in their mother's womb represented what's now, because Esau married a daughter of Ishmael to bear his off-spring. And this final global conflict I'm calling Armageddon has come to pass. Truly it's much deeper than politics. There is the finger of divine destiny in what we are seeing transpire here at the end (fullness or completion) of days upon this tiny planet. Just let me be a "space age theologian."

What a pleasure it was for me to read that story in "Weekend" about my grandmother. Amy Hightower has been my hero since her death in '68, when she was living with my parents. Since my middle name is her maiden name, I claim to be as much a Hightower as a Hazlitt. Adrienne Grimmett found a report I had never heard. The Allens had come to PV from Altus; and their daughters--Amy, Ellie, and Annie--were born here to become Mrs.Hightower, Mrs.Burch and Mrs.Goodpasture. I could claim that picture was the three, but "Gram" (as we called Amy) is the only one I recognize. We called both the others "aunt," because they were her sisters. We'd go out to Whitebead for family gatherings at Aunt Ellie's, but uncle Ed must have been deceased (or off with his hound dogs). She lived in a great big house with a narrow ledge all around it and we liked try to walk that ledge. Then Ellie would host a big meal outside on the lawn. But I just don't recall their dogs. In fact, I can recall Gram chasing strays away from her room and board house at 403 N. Walnut in PV. In the early thirties there were hungry ones always trying to hang around but she'd bring her broom and give a whack that sent them running. Even then I felt a childish pity for those poor creatures; so reading about Old Red was a special joy to me. She may have him back with her even now. We love our Critter who has been here as long as we've lived at the Pinkhouse. A few years ago someone wrote a novel about the pet dog Jesus had, named Ben. It didn't seem plausible at first but as I consider how us Gentile "dogs" get into heaven by divine grace, the same can apply to pets, I say. Just thinking of Gram waking up and overcoming her fear in the night to take that trap off Old Red's foot really chokes me up. The story fits so well being the person of courage that she was: just a little woman that stood tall for the Lord, and showing His compassion. E.G. died and left her with six kids to support just as the depression began. The oldest married my father and became my mother, Blanche Hazlitt. My dad, John, had as strong a personality as Gram, and sometimes thought her fanatic about church. "She just believes that Methodist Church is the Kingdom of God" he once said. He grew up a Presbyterian and was more laid back. But he took her into his home when she became feeble with age. And my mother kept peace between them. Then dad died just a year after Gram in '69, but Blanche lived another 30 years. Maybe that's what inheriting the earth mans, that you'll live a long life. I just want to stay around long enough to greet the Lord Jesus at His final return in glory and majesty; or maybe get to Mars and see Him passing (with all the angels and spirits of the righteous) as He comes back toward Earth!
This earthquake in Pakistan keeps rising in death count, 30,000 by now. Coming so soon after our Gulf Coast losses and the mud slide in Guatamala, it seems to match the Tsuname in S.Asia a year ago. Looking back a decade, I wonder if the OKC bombing wasn't the "beginning of sorrows" for the last days. Just six years later came 9/11, and now the aforementioned catastrophes. So what calamities are coming next? Maybe the pandemic of bird flu. In the N.T. when that wall in Jerusalem fell and killed all those Jews, Jesus interpreted it as a call to penitence: "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." We get distracted from life's purpose, to seek first the Kingdom of GOD and His righteousness" Repentance is turning back toward heaven. It would show that the USA got the message if New Orleans was rebuilt up out of that bowl where it's always been. And I might I might also say the sinhole of wickedness. NYC seems to be a new city since 9/11, so why can't the the same renewal in both names apply to N.O. now? I'm writing this on the real Columbus Day (Oct.12), marking an event that inspires me to envision things thought impossible; as it caused me to mention getting to Mars. What a pulpit that could be. It would be worth going even for a one way trip, and just to live there long enough to declare "the time is at hand. Prepare to meet thy Creator, all people. His name is Yehoshua, son of Yahweh (both are ONE). As the Father's name means 'He is,' so the Son's is the same but fuller: 'He is salvation.' We know it as Jesus. Begin trusting Him to make ready for the awesome Day of His glorious return." Here's words of a little song I like a lot: "Got any rivers you think are uncrossable? Got any mountains you can't tunnel through? GOD specializes in things thought impossible. And HE can do w-h-a-t no other power can do!!"

A headline just said that the search for bodies in N.O. had ended, but I had already heard the count was well over a thousand. And now there's flooding in our northeast. Add to that the quake in Pakistani Kashmier and the weather is speaking loud. A Biblical view is that Almighty GOD controls it or allows it to go on rampages. Jesus spoke of weather as a metaphor for history i.e. "earthquake, wind, fire, flood, and tumult of peoples" before the coming of the Son of Man. One of the songs we sang at youth group when I was a teen went "Master the Tempest is Raging, the Billows are Tossing High." Then the chorus "They all shall sweetly obey My will. Peace be still, peace be still." He simply raised His hand and gave the command, which nature immediately obeyed. Hallelujah!
This might be called "D-Day" in Iraq, as citizens there go to vote on a constitution that will establish a democracy in that land. Like the many bodies in N.O. our own loss of life there has become twice as many. So not only Iraqis, but Americans have a stake in the outcome. From what I've seen and heard in reports, it should have enough support to be adopted. Even if not by the first vote, rejection would show sufficient participation in the election to make another one worthwhile later on. But right now here in PV it's a much happier note since an earlier vote. I watched OETA's two different reports on our Toy and Action Figure Museum this past week. We've certainly gained the attention all around Garvin county and Oklahoma. Now even the weather is predicted to be fair. So our show is really on the road with this first of an annual event. The vote for bonds to aid PV schools has already passed, a sign that our city's ready to move ahead. Today will be an even bigger leap forward I predict, as the Toy & Action Figure Museum opens without any more taxes added. I'm recalling a musical toy dog my grandmother had for me. She kept it up on a high shelf in the closet there at her room and boarding house. When squeezed, it would play "Oh where O where has my little dog gone, Oh where O where can he be? With his tail cut short and his ears cut long, Oh where Oh where can he be." She just told me those words, because only the tune came from the toy. I was about three or four then, and it was such a great joy to me. It also lasted for several years as I recall and it still brings me gladness just telling.this. I think of Critter here now. Wonder if toys are somewhat like pets. They both can get inside us it seems. I just have to add that poem by Eugene Fields about toys, sad but telling too: "The little toy dog is covered with dust, but sturdy and staunch he stands. And the little tin soldier is covered with rust, as his musket molds in his hands. Time was when the little toy dog was new and the soldier was passing fair. That was the time when our Little Boy Blue kissed them and put them there. 'Now don't you go till I come' he said. "And don't you make any noise." Then toddling off to his trundle bed, he dreamed of his pretty toys. And while he was dreaming an angel's song awakened our Little Boy Blue. Oh the years are many, the years are long; but the little toy friends are true. Aye, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand, each in the same old place; awaiting the touch of a little hand and the smile from a little face. And they wonder as waiting the long years through in the dust of that little chair 'What has become of our Little Boy Blue' since he kissed them and put them there.

It's Sunday morning and I'm still recalling that Millions More rally on C-SPAN that lasted so late I finally went to bed after Jessie Jackson had spoken. Maybe Al Sharpton was next, but I'd gotten a belly full. To Jackson's credit, I didn't hear him mention "reparations," as I had heard from Sharpton. Now if any subject is going to infuriate the white population, that's it. But the Jews have been so successful getting paid by Germany, that some black leaders feel that's the way to go. So many spoke that I'd never heard tell of. And a number mentioned "black nationalism," another subject that throws fat in the fire. Of course, that comes from the so called Nation of Islam, a black state that was once espoused by Black Muslims. Back then they even wanted it to be some part of the USA mainland. But I think the idea was discarded. Still that "Pan Africa" term was used at the rally with a loud call for black Americans to unite in their demands. Jessie on the other hand seemed to lay his stress on what they should do for themselves. It was one of his best, yet the response was zilch. Never heard any applause, even after the MC asked from an expression of appreciation from the crowd. If Al Sharpton did get to speak last, he had the perfect setting to replace Jackson as spokesman for African Americans. Then I imagine that Louis Farrikan had the final say since his Million Man March a decade earlier was the inspiration of the whole affair. These big demonsgrations make me wonder how they all can afford to be there. I couldn't leave my joy that long, much less the cost of travel and housing. Smells like something's rotten in Denmark to me. Several speakers were angry about the federal government's treatment of "refugees" from New Orleans. They even resented them being so designated. But no one mentioned that the mayor and police chief were blacks, and probably most of those hundreds of police that copped out when so badly needed. Such news may have been what promted the riot in Toledo OH yesterday. It followed a neo-nazi demostration of white racists as the black people turned against city police. Still have not heart what the cops did but they were probably white too and had been too kind to the nazis. After the way white police beat up that poor old black guy in N.O. claiming he was drunk, the Afro feeling must have been ready to explode. Allowing nazis to do anything just makes me see red. We fought WW II to get rid of such folly, so there's no tolerance due them. None at all, I say. Now that we're trying to get Iraqis to adopt their constution, I've heard that our founding fathers knew slavery would eventually split this nation. So they just left it to cause our bloodiest war ever. Maybe that's what we're setting up for Iraq in the future. Sure pray not but keep hearing of civil war happening there later on. All the more reason to pray for the Lord's divine intervention by His soon returning.

Alexis de Toqueville was a social philosopher of France sent over here in 1831 to get a report for his government on our penal system. But it was his book in 1835 that made him famous, "Democracy in America." My late father liked to quote fine things he had said in it about this nation. And I've read some of it myself recalling how our nation inspired that brilliant Frenchman. He saw our sense of equality as basic to success. He said we believed making improvements and had demonstrated such to Europe, which should follow our example. Now let's feel that way toward Iraqis who have gone to the polls despite all the insurrection threats and approved a constitution of their own. One thing our founding fathers implanted was a system of checks and balances between executive, judicial and legislative branches. They were aware of danger with too much power at one place. That medieval saying still echoed with king George III of England, "power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely." Since the Iraqis learned it from Saddam's dictatorship, they will surely include checks and balances too (hopefully free from Islamic dominion).. Such would be absolutism at it's worst. Watching the new Iraq arise shows me how wise ours has been to keep church and state separate.
We encountered black Muslims having their prayers in the chapel at LARC ahead of our scheduled service. During Ramadan they explained, they are coming every evening to use it. Glen, Dallas and I sat in the rear as pews were moved back to unroll their prayer carpets for the short service. They were leaving just as our congregation started to come. That was a first in our 15 years of ministering there. We have a number of Afro-Americans in worship, but they were all ten were black who prostrated themselves there "before Allah." We were respectful toward them as they were to us. But the feeling I had during their service was one of uneasiness. Glen asked as they were leaving what the word "Ramadon" means. The one who had told us they were fasting each day' said that "It means 'We are in obedience'." All of the ritual was in Arabic, spoken by their imam, and all united in loud responses followed by periods of silence and gestures that surely had meaning to them. Then they would kneel again to bow their faces down once more on their prayer rugs. Pews were slid back in place promptly and they left as our "Jesus group" arrived. Glen taught from Acts 8 about deacon Philip leading that African Eunuch returning home from Jerusalem to accept the Savior. Surely the Spirit had directed the study so appropriate, though it had been selected well beforehand. I'd wondered why I spent several hours Saturday viewing that "Millions More" demonstration at our nation's capitol on C-SPAN. It helped me to comprehend Islam's appeal to Afro-Americans.
In the Old Testament a word most ofter used for glorious is "kabod." It can a`lso mean "weight, heaviness." With our obesity epidemic across the land, maybe we can take comfort in that second meaning. "Heavyweights" are what we call our champions of the ring or politics. So now we're a nation of "glorious ones." Biblically speaking, couldn't you say?
But no joking, going bankrupt will be a lot harder since Monday. The new federal law has gone into effect because so many happening caused the cost of credit to keep rising. All the rest of us had to absorb the cost of those who went broke and filed for bankruptcy. Yet there will be Jubilee when the Lord Jesus finally returns; one of forgiveness as all debts are cancelled along with full forgiveness to each other. Isn't that something to encourage GOD's people? No more bills to pay in heaven as typified by Israel's year of Jubilee. It was seven times seven, plus one; or every fiftieth. And Christ's coming will be a great unending Jubilee! That's good news for sure. Money won't be needed there.Hallelujah and Amen

The Pumpkin Patch has been a bright sight on your right as you enter town down here. It's s project of our WW Chamber of Commerce, along with the fake one's that wink at you down town. Instead of just that huge scarecrow of past years, which is up again, we also have costumed figures on every corner. And even some more back in the patch; all a delight to behold. "Happy Halloween" makes the season a truly fun time instead of all the pranks and ugly tricks of former times. I can even recall my uncle calling called his wife "Pumpkin" as a pet name. She was a lot younger and finally left him. So I wondered if it had seemed a putdown to her. But in my unabridged dictionary I found it's "a term of endearment." Yet there could be the opposite i.e. punkin head. Remember what Peter the pumpkin eater did when he couldn't keep his wife? Either he made that shell so nice she stayed happily or he made it a jail where she couldn't get out. The nursery rhyme doesn't say. But "happy halloween" suggests the first, I would think.
The whole planet seems to be haunted by hurricanes and disasters here in '05. Now last week's earthquake toll in Pakistan is up to eighty thousand. And the hurricane Wilma that's already hitting Mexico is projected for FL next. Up in the N.E. there's also been flooding galore. And of course N.O. is still in ruins from Katrina/Rita. Even over in China and India such floods have taken place. A cartoon in the Democrat showed some nutty/freaky looking guy holding up a sign that read "The End is Near." Two Washington legislators were taking him seriously as they headed into the capitol and one was telling the other "I believe him." The weather spooks have been speaking everlouder. Now important people are listening at last.
That headline Tuesday was just one word, "SUPER." I knew even before reading the story that it described our grand opening of PV's Toy and Action Figure Museum. But as I looked at the five letter word, it's middle P seemed to jump out at me. "Paul Day" it was saying in my mind. Now I didn't have to wonder how that happened. It clearly suggested a possible sequel for years ahead. That action figure of Kevin Stark's named "Geezer" might be used. Especially if Geezer has Paul in his name. And the old tower be then our Tall Paul. Thus the children could all be "smallpauls" since that was the original meaning of the Latin name in Roman times. I enjoyed the costume contest and wanted "Sleeping Beauty" to win at the time. Yet I'll have to agree with the judges about KISS after looking at the paper'sphoto. Their mom made three costumes instead of just one. Still, that one "beauty" had my vote. I've just recently come to see "the beauty of holiness" shown in Scripture from Israel's temple, to the city of GOD in Revelation. Art and precious stones were used for it's depiction. Now I can recall how we in the choir always sang to begin services at PV: "Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Serve Him with gladness, all the earth." That's in both Chronicles and Psalms to affirm that true beauty belongs to GOD. Satan may steal it, but can never create such holy reality.

Babylon was a an ancient city in Iraq that represents evil in the Bible. It's ruins are down south of Baghdad, the modern city that is so prominent in our daily news today, though never mentioned in Scripture. And even Iraq is called by another name, the Chaldaes. Er was it's urban center located down where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers converge and run into the Persian Gulf. Er's the wicked city out of which Abraham (Abram) and family were called. So they moved west to Haran, up the Euphrates toward Canaan along with Terah, their father. When he died, Abram and Sarah left Haran for the Promised Land, taking their nephew Lot and his family. Though Babylon's not yet mentioned, it later becomes a sequel to Er as signifying the idolatry, immorality and corruption from which GOD's people were fleeing. In Revelation 17 it's designated MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And in the next chapter "Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate." Rome had a seaport, not ancient Babylon. Thus things are shifted in Revelation to the new center of civilization, just as NYC is the newest now. It was 9/11 that launched us into that land where great cities began. Genesis says Nimrod, a descendant of Cain (first murderer), was Babylon's builder, including that Tower of trying to reach beyond the sky. We call great hunters "Nimrods," but he was hunting mostly for power and wealth back then. It found expression in that accursed city of Babylon, which survives even yet as a VD culture. That's stands for "Vegas Delusion," a term I've coined. Babylon spread down to Aruba's casinos and the the tragic disappearance of that Holloway girl; also to the Gulf Shore where Katrina hit it so hard that the casinos did the disappearing. Now the VD has come into our state with a lottery. So we are in far off Iraq trying to stamp out the source of "Babylonia" while the disease is rampant all around us even here at home. When someone wins a big jackpot it makes the news like those suicide bombers do. Both think they've gone straight to heaven don't they. But what has it done to others and their will to work, to hold steady and to keep the faith? VD during WW II was of the body, but this kind is of the soul. No wonder Revelation calls Babylon "the great whore." She seduces the peoples of many lands with her allurements. And then puritanical religious fanatics try to act as Allah's wrath to terrorize those who have been seduced.

They said she'd have to hit a grandslam homerun to get the Senate confirmation of her nomination to the Supreme Court, but Harriet Miers never even got up to bat. All those far right conservatives, who should have been pleased, were not willing to cut her any slack. Even judge Bork who got such treatment himself, balked. So another expression in Washington besides being "Borked" has been added now, "Miered." The difference is that it was her own party allies that caused her to withdraw. I can't help wondering if her conversion from Catholic to being an Evangelical might have been an unspoken factor. Of course it's not politically correct to talk of such matters. But if you watch for it, you'll notice that Catholic is the church of so many on the extreme right. And for news reporting it's mostly Jews. Just seems we Evangelicals are almost left out, at lest on cable TV's national and international coverage. Some had said the president would refuse her withdrawal, but I'm glad he accepted reality instead. The cards were heavily stacked against him and even a home run in the hearings (from poker to baseball to football) couldn't have made the winning touchdown for her, as it looked to ANGELFIRE.
I told Jeff how I appreciated the re-run of his column about that Parks lady. I had just gone to serve at Erick from Jones as a pastor in '55 when she took her stand for black equality by keeping her seat on that Alabama bus. Who of us could have guessed back then what a turn about that would finally make in the South and all of America. I said to Niece "It looks like the man would have been embarrassed to sit in her place because she was a female, and Southern males were such gentlemen." But instead, Rosa had to go to jail for showing her defiance of the law. I had been at OU in the forties when the first black student enrolled in law school, and had joined in demonstrations for the rights of Ada Lois Sipiel. Seems that black culture was matriarchal back then; thus their women took the lead. Marriage wasn't considered binding under slavery, so the males were just sold off as property with only mothers left for the kids. We've come a long way by now, but some of it still isn't much better in all of America's social fabric. Recalling my last column about wicked Babylon, please let me add that it's name means "confusion." In the N.T. we read that GOD is not the author of such. So it's caused by the devil. Seems that confusion got into the Creator's handiwork just after He pronounced it "very good" on the sixth day. The angelic rebellion under Lucifer was cast out of highest heaven and hidden thereafter in the material universe where "there was darkness on the face of the deep chaos." So when our Lord Jesus Christ saw Satan "fall like lightning from heaven," it was a flashback to what transpired from the outset. Christ could see clear outside of our time limits.
