Nepal Annapurna Circuit Trek - 2002
(part 1 - up to John's heel infection)

The great Annapuran Nepal Trek of 2002 began when I had the idea to trek the Annapurna circuit.... My apartment mate "Mr. Father Heart of God" John Baker decided to join me, and invited charming Kate Walker from Arizona... athletic, adventurous and ever so entertaining Louise Oldroyd from jolly old England joined in of course and invited a very friendly Michelle Gillispie from Australia and very fit Adam (who carried a 70 lb backpack the whole way) & equally phlegmatic Linnea (with a feminine pink covered backpack) from Kona (these last totally denied two they had anything going, but hung around each other often, already planned to do a YWAM school together and of course married about a year later.) It was a great group for sure and I hope to see all of them again.

These Trek photos are in approximate order.... I don't think I'm too far off, but if I am, only those who were on the trek might notice.

Linnea, Dave, John, Adam, Louise, Kate and Michelle at the Hotel Potala before the trek

Having lunch just before embarking on the trek. It took forever to get our food; we probably should have taken the strategy to all order the same thing.

With my automatic shutter I was able to get into this photo!

John and Kate on one of the first days of our trek, which went along a river. On this first portion of the trek Louise and I were often in the lead.

Tal

Goats!

Some of our group got new walking sticks en route

Nice forest area jsut before Chame. As I was ahead of most others, I scratched messages on the trail for them as to what time I had been at certain spots.

John got an ankle infection and was wiped out for a time... We debated about whether to have him go on (maybe going over the pass on a donkey??) but this helpful doctor who happened to be at our hotel strongly advised John not to go on, so John stayed in Chame, rested and returned to Pokhara, while the rest of us went on over the pass to complete the trek.

View from our room in Chame. A nice place, and it was good that this was the location where John got wiped out!

Our Chame Hotel, situated right on the river. Our favorite hotel for the first portion of the trek.

John recovering and resting in Chame!
