This dog is from, and the nation dog of Germany. Its orgins can almost certainly be traced to the dogs broght to Europe, by the Alans. The Alans are a Scythian from what is now Russia. Thes fighting mastiffs were probably crossed with greyhounds, producing the distinctive, elegant, and gentle breed today. The sheer size of the Great Dane can couse medical problems. Including a greater than normal incidence of hip and elbow arthritis and bone tumors.

Height range: 28-30 in (71-76 cm)
These dogs do well with urban living, with children, do not need a lot of grooming, and are content with sleeping outdoors. They also get along with other dogs. They are usually a fawn, blck, blue, brindle, or harlequin color.
