Christine's Pageant Journal

In December 1998 I competed in the Gingerbread Holiday Benefit Prelim Pageant.

It was a lot of fun!

I was crown CO-Divisional Queen, for women aged 21 and over.
I also won Photogenic in my age division.

Pageants are not just for "Supermodels" as I have found out first hand.

In January 1999 I participated in the Emerald Reign Valentines Prelim Pageant.
I was crown Divisional Queen, which included winning photogenic and portfolio in my age division.

In February 1999 I participated in the Gingerbread Valentines Prelim Pageant.
I was crown Divisional Queen.

I want to thank Jackie and her daughter Melissa for their help!

and My awesome hair stylist Shay!

I could not have done this with out you gals!

All of these prelims are in preparation for the Ms Oregon US 1999 Pageant that I will compete in on February 27th.

My goal is not necessarily to win, but have fun!  Not to mention I recently turned 'The Big 30' and I figure I have to do something special to mark this milestone in my life.

Well, I did not win, But I had a lot of fun! A few of the other contestants and I have decided to make an annual event of this, and who knows, maybe some year one of us will win!

The winners for 1999 were:

1999 Ms. Oregon - Melody Mihevc from Eugene.

1st runner up - Mary Camblin-Nelson from Gresham.

(Mary has since became the 1999 Mrs. Oregon. Congratulations Mary!)

2nd runner up - Dena Armstrong from Salem.

Congeniality - Mary Camblin-Nelson from Gresham.

Volunteer Service award - Deanna Bebeau from Grants Pass.

I have not felt like competing this year, but I did get the chance to Judge the 1999 Gingerbread Holiday Prelim.
There were so many great contestants which made for some hard decisions!
I can't wait for the 2000 Gingerbread State Pageant, coming up March 31 - April 2, to see who will win.
If you are interested in the pageant email Barb, the Gingerbread Pageant Director, with your questions.

Well someone talked me into competing in the Gingerbread State Pageant.

I entered the Ms. Elegant category, I ended up winning Oregon Overall Photogenic 2000.

I was shocked, I did not expect to win anything. All of the contestants were great!

Now thoughts of Gingerbread Nationals in Dallas, Texas are running through my head.

Gingerbread Nationals were a lot of fun!
Ms Anda sure knows how to throw a party.
And Mr Shane and Mr Michael made us all look beautiful. Love ya Mr Shane!!

A great big THANK YOU!
to my pageant mom Tracy for getting up early to burn her hands putting hot rollers in my hair.

The best part of the whole week was watching everyone from Oregon and Washington crowned with a national title.
I am so proud of all the girls for working so hard.
And Oregon/Washington/California Directors Barb and Cindy were named Director of the year.

This past year has been an exciting one and it will be hard to give up my title.
And as much as I love representing Gingerbread, in 2001 I think I will stick to entering prelims and gain more stage confidence.

Well, I was right, giving up my Gingerbread title was very hard.
There was not a dry eye on stage which just added to an already emotional situation.
The Oregon/Washington Director, Barb, really does care for us all and I know it was just as hard for her.

OK, I will admit it, I am 'The Weakest Link'.  Some how I was talked into entering the Emerald Reign State Pageant. (Tracy)
I sang the song that Cindy Morgan is singing in the background.
I won Oregon State Grand Talent.
It was a big shock!

Winning a Divisional title is a great honor, but a Grand Talent title  is overwhelming!
Just don't ask me to sing again, I was scared to death!

See you all at the 2001 Gingerbread Nationals in Dallas, Texas July 24 - 28th.
Last year was so much fun I just can't stay away!!

July 29, 2001

Yeah, yeah, same old dress, EEEEWWWWWWWWWW!
Well, I had not planned on going and then I got a last minute request.
Ms Anda sure took care of me this year, she is great!!
Mr Michael did my hair & make up and was ... Thanks & Hugs!
I think we all experienced every emotion possible, it was a week I don't think any of us will forget.
I won 1st Alternate, so hey, I'm #2.
Hugs, Prayers, and Best Wishes to all of Gingerbread!

February 23 & 24, 2002

I attended the Oregon/Washington/Idaho Tri-State Pageant in Portland, Oregon.
It is so great to see how much confidence the kids have gained. The participants that were the most frightened a year or two ago, are now the ones winning the big titles! (I cried)
It was sure nice to see Mr. Shane again, looking better than ever!!! and everyone else.
I am so proud to be a part of the Gingerbread Family!

July 20, 2002

Well, it's July again and I am thinking about Gingerbread Nationals in Texas.
I wish I could be there!
I'm going to miss competing, supporting all the Oregon girls, seeing Mr. Shane and Ms. Anda and hanging out and having fun, but I will be thinking of you all and Wishing you Luck!

You Go Girl!! bring home the crown!

October 5, 2002

I went to the America's Glamour Stars Oregon/Washington State Pageant.
The contestants were all Great! And the Directors did a great job!
Keep looking for this pageant coming to a state near you.
Maybe I'll see ya there!

March 23, 2003

I have been busy with a lot of things lately, taking care of my grandmother, going to the races and looking for a job.  So I have not had any time to go to pageants, let alone, compete!
I really miss everyone and think of you all often!!
I look forward to seeing you all as soon as I am able!

January 24, 2005

I am currently studying Phlebotomy at Linn-Benton Community College, for those of you that don't know what that is, a phlebotomist is the person that draws your blood in the lab at your doctors office or at the hospital.  I have heard that LBCC has the best Phlebotomy program and I am looking forward to graduating and starting a new career.

~Meanings~

Standing for what you believe in,
Regardless of the odds against you,
and the pressure that tears at your resistance,
...means courage

Keeping a smile on your face,
When inside you feel like dying,
For the sake of supporting others,
...means strength

Stopping at nothing,
And doing what's in your heart,
You know is right,
...means determination

Doing more than is expected,
To make another's life a little more bearable,
Without uttering a single complaint,
...means compassion

Helping a friend in need,
No matter the time or effort,
To the best of your ability,
...means loyalty

Giving more than you have,
And expecting nothing
But nothing in return,
...means selflessness

Holding your head high,
And being the best you know you can be
When life seems to fall apart at your feet,
Facing each difficulty with the confidence
That time will bring you better tomorrow's,
And never giving up,
...means confidence.
