Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
How important is faith?
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is and [that] He is a rewarder of those who
seek Him.
Can we receive anything from the Lord without faith?
James 1: 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the
one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man
ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded
man, unstable in all his ways.
Matt 9:2 And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing
their faith , Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, son; your sins are
forgiven." 3 And some of the scribes said to themselves, "This fellow
blasphemes." 4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, "Why are you thinking evil
in your hearts? 5 "Which is easier, to say, `Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, `Get
up, and walk'? 6 "But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth
to forgive sins"--then He said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your bed and
go home."
Matt 9:20 And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for
twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; 21 for she was
saying to herself, "If I only touch His garment, I will get well." 22 But Jesus
turning and seeing her said, "Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you
well." At once the woman was made well.
Matt 9:27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him,
crying out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" 28 When He entered the house, the
blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to
do this?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." 29 Then He touched their eyes,
saying, "It shall be done to you according to your faith ." 30 And their
eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them: "See that no one knows about
this!" 31 But they went out and spread the news about Him throughout all that land.
Matt 15:22 And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to
cry out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly
demon-possessed." 23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and
implored Him, saying, "Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us." 24 But
He answered and said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of
Israel." 25 But she came and [began] to bow down before Him, saying, "Lord, help
me!" 26 And He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread
and throw it to the dogs." 27 But she said, "Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed
on the crumbs which fall from their masters' table." 28 Then Jesus said to her,
"O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish." And
her daughter was healed at once.
Matt 17:14 When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, falling
on his knees before Him and saying, 15 "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a
lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16
"I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him." 17 And Jesus
answered and said, "You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I
be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me." 18 And Jesus
rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once. 19 Then the
disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not drive it out?" 20
And He ^said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith ; for truly I
say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this
mountain, `Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to
you.
Mark 9: 20 They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the
spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and
foaming at the mouth. 21 And He asked his father, "How long has this been happening
to him?" And he said, "From childhood. 22 "It has often thrown him both
into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on
us and help us!" 23 And Jesus said to him, "`If You can?' All things are
possible to him who believes." 24 Immediately the boy's father cried out and said,
"I do believe; help my unbelief." 25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was
rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You deaf and mute
spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again." 26 After crying
out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and [the boy] became so much
like a corpse that most [of them] said, "He is dead!" 27 But Jesus took him by
the hand and raised him; and he got up.
Luke 7:48 Then He said to her, "Your sins have been forgiven."
49 Those who were reclining [at the table] with Him began to say to themselves, "Who
is this [man] who even forgives sins?" 50 And He said to the woman, "Your
faith has saved you; go in peace."
Sometimes God gives us what we need even if we don't have faith:
Matt 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking
on the sea. 26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and
said, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus
spoke to them, saying, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." 28 Peter said
to Him, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water." 29 And He
said, "Come!" And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came
toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he
cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took
hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith , why did you doubt?"
32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 And those who were in the boat
worshipped Him, saying, "You are certainly God's Son!"
Mark 4:36 Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat,
just as He was; and other boats were with Him. 37 And there arose a fierce gale of wind,
and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. 38
Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him,
"Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" 39 And He got up and rebuked
the wind and said to the sea, "Hush, be still." And the wind died down and it
became perfectly calm. 40 And He said to them, "Why are you afraid? How is it that
you have no faith ?" 41 They became very much afraid and said to one another,
"Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"
Luke 22:31 "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded [permission]
to sift you like wheat; 32 but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail;
and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." 33 But he said
to Him, "Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!" 34 And He
said, "I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied
three times that you know Me."
Where do we get faith?
Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith ; and that
not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no
one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Romans 10: 13 for "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will
be saved." 14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will
they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?
15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "How beautiful
are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!" 16 However, they did not
all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" 17
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Whose responsibility is it if we don't have faith?
Ephesians 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that
you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14
Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the
breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the
gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which
you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil [one]. 17 And take the
helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Colossians 2:6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so
walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established
in your faith , just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.
Hebrews 10:38 But My righteous one shall live by faith ; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
