Dave's Photos of Spain and Portugal

These photos are from my 1995 trip to Spain. I went with my wife, and we went to Extremadura province and also visited Marvao castle in Portugal. Click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture

A gourmet meal on the Spanish-Portuguese border. Spain is on the left side of the river, Portugal on the right. We had to hike through a ranch to get here, after negotiating a road full of potholes. A small lake in the Sierra de Gredos mountains

Extremaduran horses grazing along the road. We saw Elvis in Portugal! A cemetary nestled in the ruins of a church.

Dave and Yukari at El Escorial, a 16th Century palace, monastery, and royal mausoleum.

Dave's Spanish Postcards

About 3-4 days into my trip, my camera lens disintegrated and springs started popping out. Extremadura is very rural, and all I could find was a very cheap flourescent orange Chinese made camera. As a result, most of the rest of my pictures are too blurry to see. Here are a few postcards from my trip. Click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture.

El Escorial is also a royal tomb. The cake-like structure here contains the bodies of many of the various king's children. El Escorial has a beautiful library. An aerial view of the Roman aqueduct in Segovia.

Trujillo, birthplace of the infamous Spanish conquistador Pizarro. Marvao, a lovely hilltop castle in Portugal. The Royal Monastery of Guadalupe, home of the black Madonna.

The hexagonal underground tomb of most of the kings of Spain in El Escorial.
